Goddamn, this song is one of the greatest triumphant rock n roll anthems ever! It's almost like Bob wrote this years ago and said, "I'm gonna hold on to this one and end the 'last' Guided By Voices album with it (even tho they've made more)." Who else besides me screams right before the "for far too long' part?
"Visit mysterious fields See them with small courage There you will come to a bird She may scream the word But if that's what you think you heard Then what's what you heard And if that's what you want to hear Then that's what I will tell you Black without warning The storm and the morning star It's look! We are angels on wires From a pregnant sky And if that's where you think you'll go Then that's where you'll go And if what's what you want to feel Then that's what I will sell you And now I've come back Translucent and peeled At Huffman Prairie Flying Field I've come to start up my head Been closed and locked up For far too long For far too long For far too long For far too long"
What a mighty, rattling, giddy, head-popping, foot-stomping, joyous, wild, beautiful racket! I've just played this through 6 times straight and I'm not yet saturated. By the way, I love it. They closed this chapter of the GBV story in style.
This song and this video really inspire me. Remembering the Wright Brothers, and indeed, Guided By Voices themselves existed/still exist, shows me the truly beautiful and truly amazing things that human beings are capable of. "Don't Stop Now", Bob and Co.!
therealacidbird it never ceases to amaze me how deeply this song influences our experience as humans. This song makes my heart soar, and that was likely the intention when written. Blessings GBV
Rentz Leinbach this album is like a collection of beautiful unknown prayers, a lost hymnal book filled with unheard trance and wonder. So many songs within this album bring me to tears, absolute tears of joy, a sensation that my heart & spirit are lifting up from my body into the graceful reflection of the world, God... Its an incredibly inspiring feeling provided by a mere 35 min album.
This amazing song even has more meaning for me after reading the new book on the Wright bros. Just like the Wrights, Bob sees possibility where others see folly.
GBV!!! Love this vid, didn't even know it existed?! :D I shows how amazing humans are, we never stop, we are so determined. We will never give up, ever. It's common theme in Pollard's POV and writing, I'm all about it too.
@kcvriess heheeee, you must not have ever seen a gbv show live... yes? There's nothing "on-key", ever... especially when you're soaked in beer thrown all over you on stage. ha.

Standing on the field now for GBV40, FITTING

I would love if some of your videos become Official GBV Videos 🤘😎🤘
Thanks for this incredible work ✌️🤘
Greatest American band ever!! I mean really, really, EVER! ~:o)
Mark Hower I would agree, but I consider it a virtual tie between GBV and REM. I can't separate them.
No disagreement from me at all.
Thank you Dayton, Ohio for giving us this monumental band!
Most Definitely!!
True American Rock and Roll
"Visit mysterious fields
See them with small courage
There you will come to a bird
She may scream the word
But if that's what you think you heard
Then what's what you heard
And if that's what you want to hear
Then that's what I will tell you
Black without warning
The storm and the morning star
It's look! We are angels on wires
From a pregnant sky
And if that's where you think you'll go
Then that's where you'll go
And if what's what you want to feel
Then that's what I will sell you
And now I've come back
Translucent and peeled
At Huffman Prairie Flying Field
I've come to start up my head
Been closed and locked up
For far too long
For far too long
For far too long
For far too long"
this is a quintessential gbv edit right here.
Something about this song speaks to my soul..
What a fucking song! Thank you, Mr Pollard!

Stand-out genius track from a genius band!
Always really liked this song, and album. Highly underrated in their discography. The footage is appropriate and awesome.

keep the political shit outta here. We want to enjoy the music, not have this crap shoved down our throats.
He's singing off key!! And not just a little... The video is very amusing though :)
That's the key of Bob, and it's never wrong :)
