  • @LtBasil

    Ouch. That's gotta sting. I don't blame her, but still…
    And for people who are saying Quinn betrays you if you side with the Republic… compare his response to Elara's. Quinn doesn't tell Acina anything about the warrior that would be much help in bringing him/her down. Whereas Elara tells Malcolm EXACTLY how to take down the trooper. Yet people claim that Quinn betrays the warrior while no one accuses Elara of betraying the trooper.
    And Quinn also sides with you regardless of which faction you ally with. Whereas Elara completely cuts you off if you side with the Empire (and I don't blame her - but I wouldn't have blamed Quinn if he had cut ties with a Republic-aligned warrior either so the fact that he doesn't, that he stays loyal to his commander regardless of what he/she chooses, really speaks volumes for how far his loyalty to the warrior goes).
    Make of that what you will, Quinn haters.

    • @LtBasil
      @LtBasil 7 ปีที่แล้ว +56

      Except that this time you betrayed him first.
      Also I personally don't consider what Quinn does in War for Iokath a betrayal, you ARE fighting for his enemies, him attacking you is kind of justified.

    • @LtBasil
      @LtBasil 7 ปีที่แล้ว +44

      It's been six and a half years. During that time, you have overthrown not one, not two, but three super-powerful Force-sensitive emperors/empress (one who was basically immortal and another who was so powerful that her mind had to be locked away in order to prevent her from destroying everything around her), taken control of the world that was previously bombing the rest of the galaxy to dust, are now in control of the most overpowered fleet in all of history and have jurisdiction over a planet-killing superweapon based on a planet that is, in itself, one gigantic planet-killing superweapon. If it struck your fancy you could annihilate both the Empire and the Republic without breaking a sweat.
      You are dangerous and unpredictable, a wildcard, and a HUGE threat. What's more, you've CHANGED, after everything you've experienced you aren't the same person that Quinn knew and he probably isn't sure what to think at first. It makes sense that Quinn might not be so certain of you anymore. And his loyalty has always been to the Empire first, and the Warrior siding with the Republic, who are fighting against the Empire and very well may want to destroy it, is a perfectly understandable reason for him to be hesitant to side with you. Makes sense to put in a fail-safe in case you decided to ally with the people who are pretty much trying to annihilate his people.
      Plus, as I stated before, YOU BETRAYED HIM FIRST. You sided with his enemies. You are fighting AGAINST THE EMPIRE for control of a weapon that has the capacity to DESTROY THEM. I personally was shocked that he didn't disown the Warrior for that.
      Quinn is NOT the traitor here. The Warrior is.

    • @LtBasil
      @LtBasil 7 ปีที่แล้ว +20

      Not if he realized exactly how dangerous the superweapon really is and that using it would actually do the Empire more harm than good. In the case of an LS warrior at least, you are running damage control and trying to dismantle the superweapon so that the Empire and the Republic won't destroy each other. Acina using the weapon against the Republic and the Alliance would devastate the Empire as well, something which Quinn comes to realize when you are facing off against her, leading him to stand up to her on your behalf to try to stop her from using it (it doesn't work, but he does try). Working with you is in the Empire's best interests if you're light-sided at least.
      It MIGHT be the way you are suggesting if the warrior is dark-sided (Quinn would be scared out of his pants of a DS warrior anyway) but again, Quinn still comes to recognize that using the superweapon is not good for the Empire. The best way to protect the Empire is to keep them from using it. And the Warrior is in the best position to do that.

    • @scottz9834
      @scottz9834 7 ปีที่แล้ว +27

      There's also the fact that he's a non- force sensitive (essentially part of the lower class, at least compared to Sith) being pulled in two directions because his superiors have a bad case of chronic backstabbing disorder. He seems to be loyal to the Warrior, but demands of higher sith prevent him from doing so. He is likely forced to betray the Warrior because his own life depends on it.

    One thing I hated about The Iokath War content is that it happened at all, we had the eternal fleet we could have just said "GTFO or I will blow you all up and restart the blockades" or something more lightsided with the same kind of message, both the Empire and Republic were breaking Alliance Trust and truces we should not have had to choose a side we had the power to take them both out.

I mean the Empire helped me during the war, and attacked Vaylin's fleet above Voss risking her wrath, and the Republic tried to kill me. It's not like i'm about to eradicate the Republic here. It is caused by BW changing concepts of the game. First they decided to end division between Republic and Empire to make one story for all classes. It probably wasn't liked by people so much so they started to return to the old formula and continue story with Makeb like approach (one story for Republic classes and one for Imperial classes). They created Alliance, made it overpowered and then destroyed Alliance power very fast using ancient deux ex machina trick cause probably realized that it is very hard to continue story when you are the biggest power in galaxy and your fleet can destroy everyone. I am still sad that KOTET/KOTFE ever happened. They had cool moments and were mostly fun in first 2-3 plays, but they destroyed the story so much

      hmm has it - look at how much shit the Virmire Survivor gets for being the only one who has a realistic reaction. I think it is, in part, a problem of how Bioware generally writes - we mostly see our character's perspective, so we lose sight of other characters and how they see things. In this case, Elara sees the Trooper becoming everything she had left the Sith Empire for - and it wasn't like Elara was some scavenger on a desert planet taken in to get out of that life, she left behind her family, her friends, everything she knew for what could have ended with her living out her days in a detention center. Yet she was able to find a home in Havoc Squad after years of being used as a scapegoat and dealing with relative drudgework... then the Trooper goes and joins the Sith who are still in their usual habits.

    I think Elara's best response was the one where you try "Don't give up on me" - she /unloads/ onto you and calls you out for murdering your way through hundreds of Republic troops - HER troops, men and women (and everything in between) who trusted Elara to see them through the thickest of fighting. Her voice actress really deserves props for getting that emotion down.
    And I think I like it best that Elara sticks to her morals - she doesn't bend because you're the PC, she stands up to you and calls you out. Just like Ashley Williams does when you've joined Cerberus. But of course, unlike when you joined Cerberus this time you're killing the same men and women you've fought alongside rather than against an external third threat.
    But Elara sticks to her morals and would live in suffering or die horribly for them, whatever came her way. Easily the best of the Trooper companions.

    Some people critisize Elara for siding with Republic if you side with the Sith Empire. Personaly, she HAS good reasons to do it:
    - She was in imperial military. She witnessed monstrosities comiited by Empire. She tried to talk about it with officers. Didn't worked out, so she defected.
    - Let's be honest: Sith Empire is a country with radical approach who commits war crime on daily basics. They don't even hold themselfs from killing kids. Sure. Reublic doesn't have cleanest hand here and they have it's dark side too , but also still Dorne thinks that despite of that, she believe that Republic is the best way for galactic peace.
    - Just like Jorgan said: Republic is more than just bureaucrats. It's aslo famileis, community, nation, idea etc.
    - Even if some soldier and politians will despise her for being born-imperial, there will be still some soldier who sees in her more than just accent. They will see her as a medic. As a savior, as a respectful soldier. Malcolm respects her. Jorgan has also holds her in high regard. Your Trooper character also can be someone she could call her friend or lover if you decide to romance her by playng male character (unless Bioware is planning to make her bisexual in another addon. Doesn't matter though. You get the idea).
    - Someone says that Republic lies and Sith Empire are more honest. Really? Both of them lie and manipulate. No matter is this an issue with light/dark side dilemmas. Every super power makes whatever it takes in order to achive their goals. Some leaders of the Republic wants to uphold it's ideas. But they aslo know that they have to play dirty in order to secure their country's best interests. And this goes also for the Empire. They will sometimes play nice, if they can get something what they want with diplomacy instead of emploing violence.
    - She was searching for Trooper because she was loyal to him/her. She was shocked when her former CO sided with Empire, that didn't followed the regulations, they made.
    - As for the super weapon, well no matter what, she sill sides with the Republic as I mentioned: she believes that's for the best for galaxy. She gives advices how to beat her former CO, because she want to help her comrades in Republic Army. I think that's pretty understable. Let me be clear. I don't hate Quinn. I haven't played Sith Warrior class so I don't know much about him, but I'm sure he's doing what he believes is right.
    So these are my thoughts about it. I'm sure that some people will either agree or disagree with me. Hell, someone might give me some preatty nasty response but whatever. That's the Net for ya. But I think we can agree on, that this game is much more better written than any movie from Star Wars. It at least gives you some nasty info 'bout Republic which suppoes to be a faction of goody two shoes guys and the Sith Empire which you'd think taht they are bunch of psychos .

    • @peach1205
      @peach1205 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I agree with you on the most part about the Republic being the overall 'moral' choice. But to degrade the Empire into the 'mindless, bloodthirsty, edgy, lol join the empire cuz we wear red and black' faction doesn't at all justify a corrupt Republic who committed the same war crimes at the end of the Hyperspace War.
      Thus, the Empire birthed leaders with the right ideas: for example, Darth Malgus - who expressed a stronger Empire tempered by Alien alliances instead of xenophobia. And Darth Marr - who pursues a strong and united Empire that doesn't rely on one political figurehead such as the Sith Emperor. A person like Dorne, as an Imperial, may resent the Empire's doctrine, yet she cannot deny her heritage. She must realise that an Empire that has bore fruit to change is inevitably better for the galaxy.
      I understand her character is the borderline premise of: "lol i'm not imperial anymore, i'm red-blooded republic servant"
      Even Dorne must understand that the Republic is in no shape or position to judge the Sith Empire. This is evident within the Republic's own political struggle within Knights of the Eternal Throne. Saresh is the perfect example of Republic greed, corruption and essentially a blow to their 'moral' agenda.

      The Republic did next to nothing during the whole eternal empire crisis, while the Empire had your back.
      What did the Republic do? They tried to kick the Empire instead of forming an Alliance against a bigger threat, how stupid is this?
      But as soon as the spoils go to the victor (you) the Republic is on your Doorstep and presents itself to be the morally only logical choice. What? The Republic did their fair share of War Crimes too and in many campaigns you can see that the Republic is more than willing to play dirty to win.
      The only real difference between the Republic and the Empire is, the Empire doesn't try to present itself as morally superior and the "good" guys, when in reality they are just as rotten as their enemy.

    • @mini2239
      @mini2239 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@CedricBassman Three problems: 1. The Republic wasn't being cowardly but pragmatic. Rather declaring war against a clearly superior force with no clear chance of victory they faced reality. That's called being smart.
      2. The Republic never tried to take over the Alliance, Saresh did. If Obama today decided to try and take over the UK with no US support would you consider that the US's action
      3. Why don't you provide some examples of war crimes that the Republic has committed, and then consider how that compares to the Sith's actions. The world is not so black and white that by committing a single war crime out of necessity it makes you as bad as them.
      It's like saying the Allies were no better than the Nazis because of actions they took in war. Even though it never in any way compared to the fact that the Nazis began their atrocities the day they marched into Poland. It's a false Equivalency fallacy
