I bought some small C Clamps and C clamp locking welding pliers at harbor freight to use for exactly what's being done here. C clamps were like $3 and pliers are like $5 No need to spend the big $$$ since they get all splattered with slag balls. Yes, the Duke traps need baseplates and welding to take all the flex away Anybody that is making these particular traps ready needs to watch this video
Good job. I just went thru 6 Duke 1 3/4. Ordered offset jaws. 4 coil them base plated them. Bubbled the jaws. Worked the pan over. Replace the factory chain. With #2 machine chain ans 3 swivels. Ordered some laminate kits. And ss dogs. I bought a 110 wire welder. I love working on traps. I make all my trapping supplies. I will be ordering a trap bender. I bought some more Duke #3's. Planning on base plating them. That bender will come in handy. Plus, I want to base plate all my traps. I have a lot of 1.5 coil spring needs it. That bender will pay for itself. Also, going thru and spot weld the j hooks, too. I have about 4 or 5 dz traps that need base plated. Base plates are 16.00 a dz. Plus u have to pay shipping. D rings isnt that high. I use the d rings. On my drags i been making. Reason i spot weld j hooks. Everyone but where u hook to anchor. So when i pull them. They dont straighten out.
Thanks for sharing, excellent job modifying the trap. Stay safe, and God bless
This video has been out for 3 yrs and i just came acrossed it. Super nice job fella. Going to do the same to my traps.
Thank you very much! 👍

C clamps work great to if you don’t have a vice
Your wire speed is way to fast on the welder so the wire is getting to far out and the gas shield is not close enough to work correctly
I appreciate the input. I’ll dial it back a bit and try it. I haven’t ever replaced my liner in twenty years so I chalked it up to that
after you did all that to the trap why use the chain? why get get a heaver chain.
I’ve never had an issue with chain on them so I use the original. I do shorten it up though.
Getting ready to do some up grading to a few used traps I bought. Good video. Thanks
Thank you very much for watching! 👍
How much do u charge per dozen?! 😂
We can work something out if you need some done? I would definitely have to charge for shipping and a little time.
I guess let me know if you’re interested? If you’re shipping them to me I can do that for prob just the shipping cost plus 5.00/trap

I agree. I’m usually a man of few words but I felt I had to explain what I was doing more on this one. Thank you for watching
