Non-spoiler deeper dive into what was going on with light novel info. So as usual with the worldbuilding a ton of things happened that both got left out and glossed over. Things from previous volumes were the footnotes that set up this. Remember that these nobles weren't the smart ones. The previous annual wars between the Kingdom and Empire were ways for spoiled nobles to get an easy military victory and still go home at the end of the battle. So usually the noble would go and bring their next in line to get battle accolades without risking their line. The 'splat' event of Katze Plains killed a number of nobles who went there for glory. Many noble houses lost their head, next in line, and some even lost their backup next in line. They had to go to the third or fourth born that were never destined for roles of power. So they weren't given a good education in things like politics and war (if any at all) and shipped to the nearest farming village in their father's domain. Philip was an example of a third born who was suddenly thrust into such a position. Neuronist Painkill, Nazarick's torturer who was introduced in S3 of the anime (S1of the light novel for the Scripture 'knights') is the greenish skinned leech-mouth tentacle haired lady who felt her looks were superior to Albedo and Shalltear. The one who wanted to introduce on of the tomb raiding workers to the concept of kidney stones. Pestonia (dog face maid) Nigredo (faceless lady with scissors) and Sebas were doing a good job of convincing Ainz to spare a few of the humans here and there. They are the three NPCs in Nazarick with a positive (or at least not evil) alignment. Between what they had asked and Ainz gaining respect for Prince Zanac he was softening on his position to destroy everyone outright. He was considering whether or not to show a tiny bit of mercy when this crop of nobles showed up asking for an audience. With that one poor decision they ruined every bit of respect that Zanac built, ruined every bit of mercy the NPC trio had requested, and what's worse is they told him to make it even worse without realizing it. They asked to survive. That was granted. Ainz was going to send just the foolish nobles to Neuronist. Then they asked if their wives and children could come with them. He allowed it. They would all be sent to Neuronist. And then he was so disinterested in the humans (empathy fully drained and his undead overlord aspects in full force now) he lost the give-a-damn to posture for the battle and just told his Floor Guardians to deal with the rest. NPCs who would have a very different view of things. Cocytus wanted to prove himself a good commander after the lizardman incident. And Mare who has fuckall empathy (remember how he bashed Hilma's leg in and dragged her by her hair out of her house so chill and matter of fact). They doomed their kingdom far worse than would have been the case previously with this act.
"He reminds me of someone from this show." That would be Clementine from season 1, that is her twin brother. She was a member of the Slane theocracy's special units, the crown she used on Nferia she stole from them.

@@ladydecarteret I'm pretty sure that ainz wants to find another way to handle the situation but unfortunately he lost interest because of the traitors.
@@ladydecarteret Focus on the last few lines Ains says. This implied that he had doubts about killing them all after meeting Zanac. When shown his head, his lines basically meant that this corrupt nation was beyond redemption and he doesn’t want it in his kingdom. But even with anime only, those lines imply he was willing to show mercy on their kingdom.

Survive or not, betrayal is always a sin worth of eternal damnation. They could have deserted, but they choose to instead bring their king's head to Ainz. This is also an insult to Ainz not just because he respects Zanac, but also because they treat Ainz like some kind of barbaric monster that would be easily amused by severed head.
I love the part where Zanuck, who protested to Ainz, "You are narrow-minded," is politely buried, and the nobles who begged for their lives with Zanuck's head as a souvenir are tortured.

That blond guy is Clementine's brother, and unlike her, he was loved by his parents. A totally irrelevant fact but it was worth mentioning. Azuth isn't very strong, even for adamantite standard, he was just lucky to find that armor. The power suit was for new players in Yggdrassil (starter pack), so it's basically trash for Ainz and company. In short, he is just an annoying fly.🥱
@@opinionofmine3238 If I remember correctly, when the "Valkyrie's Downfall" expansion pack came out, several things were added, such as futuristic elements and among other things a starter pack for new players (or was it part of the "recruit a friend" program?) whatever, it was an incentive for new players.

It reminds me of The Secret History of the Mongols. Jamukha was a Mongol military and political leader and the chief rival to Temüjin (later Genghis Khan) in the unification of the Mongol tribes. Also Jamukha was an anda ("childhood friend") and a blood brother to Temüjin. They were good friends, but they had their own responsibilities to their sub-tribes. In fall of 1201, a great battle broke out between Jamukha's alliance and the Khereit-Khamag Mongol alliance (Temujin's alliance) at the Ergune valley. This decisive battle, known as the Battle of the Thirteen sides, ended with Temujin's victory and eventual ascension as Khan of all united Mongol tribes. Jamukha was eventually betrayed to Temüjin by his followers in 1206. Temüjin executed Jamukha's betrayers on the principle that betrayal merits the harshest punishment. The Secret History of the Mongols states that Temüjin offered renewal of their brotherhood, but Jamukha insisted that just as there was room for only one sun in the sky, there was room only for one Mongol lord. He asked to be executed by dying a noble death without the spilling of blood. His request was granted by having his back broken by Temüjin's soldiers. It is said that Temujin buried Jamukha in the golden belt that he had given to Jamukha when they formed their bond of brotherhood.
