  • Wakefield Hunt is an English Country Dance first found in Thompson of 1779. It was interpreted by Tom Cook in 1987. Found in "The Playford Assembly". It is a proper triple minor triple progression dance.
    Thompson writes:
The First Gent: cast off & turn the 3d. Lady · first Lady cast off and turn the 3d. Gent: ·· Hands 6 quote round · Lead thrõ the bottom and cast up lead thrõ the top and cast off ·· Hands 4 across at bottom quite round Right and Left at top · ··
This version shows the dance with 10 couples.

A triple progression triple minor has the interesting characteristic that no one is ever out at the top and there are always the same number of couples out at the bottom. Dancers in a normal triple minor will experience all the end effects as they go through the dance, but if I want to display all the end effects of this dance I need 3 different animations with different numbers of starting couples.
At the top of the major set the 2s should not attempt to do the final change, instead they remain where they are and become 1s the next time through the dance.
If the number of couples is divisible by 3 then no one is ever out, but the 1s at the bottom of the major set should not attempt to do the final change of the dance, instead they remain where they are and become 3s the next time through the dance.
If there is one couple out at the bottom of the major set then that couple does nothing until the last 2 bars of the dance when they act as if they were 2s and do the final change becoming 3s in the next minor set.
If there are two couples out at the bottom then they run most of the dance (as is usual in a triple minor) but the 1s must only do one progression, the 1s must be stationary for the last 8 bars of the dance.
The animation plays at 120 counts per minute normally, but the first time through the set the dance is slowed down so people can learn the figures more readily. Men are drawn as rectangles, women as ellipses. Each couple is drawn in its own color, however the border of each dancer indicates what role they currently play so the border color will change each time through the minor set.
