This is a very nice and informative demo. I have never done fire service before, only independent service.
Elevation Station Productions what is independent service mode?
Gerard Landry independent service is basically for inspection. The elevator won't respond to calls but can still be operated from the COP by pressing your floor button and holding the door close button until the door is closed. Basically it is like fire service.
Thanks for this video, I'm taking the FSD test in a few days and it was nice to get a visual on everything . Appreciate it.

On Westinghouse Phase II Fire Service key switch (car switch) doesn't have a HOLD mode. Just ON and OFF. There's also no call cancel button.
You forgot one thing if you press call cancel while the elevator is moving the elevator will actually stop at the next available floor also nice motor

Actually, he said that the call cancel button only works when the elevator is in fire service.

Doctor Octagonapus I agree, the buzzer thingy is absolutely ridicules. The buzzer should only go off when the door closes.
JJ163 I've done just under a dozen fire recall tests in my job as a fire alarm inspector and I will tell you, these buzzers are horrible in person.

I know why the safety door sensors are disabled; the sensors know no difference between smoke or a person as they both give off IR. And if smoke comes through the door it will refuse to close which is really dangerous so it disables it to stop the risk

On elevators that are connected to the building's fire alarm system, bypass resets the fire condition on the fire alarm control panel. This is usually only used if a smoke detector was tripped, the elevator went into fire service, and it needed a reset. Basically, bypass just turns it off if it was activated automatically.
Interesting, I don't think that's allowed where I live. Here, the fire department doesn't reset fire alarm panels and only someone responsible for the building can reset it.

Andrew, that buzzer was very noisy, but it’s also cool. The cat was very cute in the ending of the video. The cat’s name I assume is Trigger. He was trying to bite your hand when you were petting him.

The fire buzzer actually sounded like the down sound of the hydraulic piston retracting

@TheAstroFromPolution No it wouldn't but since the elevator in normal service would not be rendered inoperable if the door close button broke, no one is going to complain about it. However, I believe that when an elevator is inspected that the door close buttons are checked-at least I would think they'd check them since they're needed for fire service.
Door close buttons are no more likely to break than any other but they're more likely to be left un-repaired for a long time.

That is true, but there are other scenarios where the benefits outweighs the risks. Many fire services respond in conjunction with ambulances in medical emergencies where there is no fire. This is helpful especially in a tall building with constantly busy elevators used by tenants and visitors.

When use the recall key it recalls the elevator! so is also recalls the elevator!
@themaniscool100 Well it wouldn't be pleasent but no serious injury will result. the door might keep trying to close but it wouldn't be strong enough to do any damage. But you'd have to hold down the button for it to keep closing (or trying to close)
Very nice. I did not know you could send the cab back down by setting the cab fire switch to off.
The fire service instructions indicate that the elevator gets sent back to recall floor when switched to "off" (car recall station).

That hotel is done constructed at 1991 or unknown or 80's.
I also heard the reason elevator's should not be used in fires was when they had the heat-sensitive buttons. Fires would trigger the elevator to an engulfed floor, causing the rider to become trapped (elevator always on call).

Even with regular buttons a burned wire could short and trigger the elevator to stop there.
There are other hazards as well. Firstly, the fire might burn up the power cables and cause it to get stuck. Secondly, if the fire is relatively close to the elevator, moving it past the fire floor could create a draft that helps the fire spread faster from where it is.
The fire service relay reset the smoke detector by hitting the bypass switch. unless there is still smoke near the detector.

@agentz100 its a key you can open the outside door with when the elevator is not there. its bad because someone could come along, open it and fall down the shaft.... not real pretty...

Independent service works in a similar manner (protective devices do not go into alarm).
Nothing goes into alarm. Fire alarms aren't even triggered as seen in this video and many others

That's why they would check the areas near the elevator doors, on each floor, before they tried to use it. Also what CoolArrived said as well.
