MUST WATCH!!! I GOT STUCK IN THE ELEVATOR!!!

- (3-15-2019) Now..., this was quite the adventure, LOL! I wanted to take a couple rides on these old Haughton elevators, as they are about to get modernized by Schindler soon; and yes, I am going to try my best to get parts from them, too! Now to the story of what happened. I had already rode from the concourse level and up to 26 twice, and when it arrived back down at concourse, AFTER my second ride, the doors wouldn't open, even AFTER I pressed door open a couple times. Instead of the doors opening, it kept on going back up to 26 from the concourse a few times, and when it hit floors 13-14, it started bouncing up and down, and wouldn't move for about 2 minutes. After all of this craziness, it finally decided to back down towards the concourse, and the doors didn't open again for some reason. Then, it FINALLY takes me back up to 26, and lets me out... I then go back down on one of the other elevators, even though they were a little boring..., but at least they wouldn't get stuck and almost make me have a heart attack... LOL. With that all being said, I hope you guys enjoy watching this video. :)

These have clearly been neglected and the controllers are obviously very messed up...... Such a shame to see such an awesome elevator system end up like this....
It really is ashame to see them these end up in such poor shape. :( For the first few months of coming here to ride the elevators, they ran just fine. They started to run like this a couple months ago when the construction was really on going. Also, they have taken apart the ceiling, and this elevator has since became VERY dirty as a result of it being used as a construction elevator... Hopefully I will be able to see these original once more before they mod them, as I REALLY love these elevators!!! They are my favorites in Rochester.

I bet those Haughon elevators could have lasted a lot longer if they have been properly maintained. I remember writing some Haughton elevators from the 1950s. When they are maintained properly those things can last a very long time. they were very fast and very smooth operating and practically never broke down. But it does get complicated because some elevators especially the older Haughton elevators you might have a problem getting replacement parts if they break. The company that made those elevators no longer exists

nope. That wasn't the reason. These elevators run on a type of control system called relay logic and they were VERY common on these old haughton elevators.. They were VERY good for the time, and are honestly still really good today. However with that being said, like ANY elevator system, they MUST be taken care of and properly maintained, or else they will turn out to be in very poor shape :(. This system right here is a perfect example of a neglected relay logic control system unfortunately.

Wow! Now that is scary! I would probably have a panic attack if I was in an elevator that went down then went back up with that many floors.
I DID have a panic attack LOL. About 30 seconds before it let me off I was gonna ring the alarm call 911 or use the phone inside to call the head of security to let me out. I’m glad I got out when I did though as I was VERY scared.

I HATE elevators sooo much!! If I ever got stuck in one I would be soo scared 😱! I would start freaking out!! I would cry 😢 because elevators are my worst fear!! Especially if the cable snapped!! Oh and how were you so calm??
I can understand your fear of elevators, but tbh with you you might get over that fear. I sure did lol. Believe it or not I used to be scared shitless of elevators as a kid and wouldn't even step on one. But one day when i saw videos i wasn't so scared anymore and began to really enjoy them. :)

@@geneseetrainselevators2448 This is why I watch a lot of these, I worry about getting stuck in one, but constantly fascinated by them at the same time.
If the cables snap, there is a safety break that the elevator speeds up and down direction faster than usual it will apply extremely strong break to the tracks. It’ll stop the elevator if the elevator was on the second floor and the cable snapped. It’s over speed governor did not have enough time to react. There is the springs at the bottom of the elevator shaft that will absorb most of the pressure and the chance of this is very rare cable can hold the whole elevator car there is multiple of them in a high-rise buildings there’s not just for there’s usually 6 to 8 cables.

Awesome Haughton lifts
This is probably the first time I've ever seen a 13th floor on an elevator.
To start off with, the shaft noises weren’t a good sign. When you got stuck, was the elevator moving constantly up and down or was it still? Judging by the squeaking noises in the shaft, it seemed like it was constantly moving up and down.
You weren't stuck, it just had a controller glitch. Welcome to old relay logic, particularly when not kept up so well.

Those squeaks don't sound promising. If I rode those in person, I'd probably get off after one ride. The cause of the elevator doing that bizarre behavior is that the elevator either lost position, or the relays were malfunctioning.

Yep I am planning on getting parts from the mod if I can. These were some of my favorite elevators in Rochester and it's gonna be a real shame seeing them bite the dust :( But sadly, not everything is gonna last forever and that is something that everyone's gotta realize. These elevators though have been neglected and are in BAD shape!
Construction workers probably started mashing on the call button at 26 so you came back up from C to 26, lol.

How old were these elevators? I'm guessing the elevators were being renovated (like the last one you rode in) after construction was complete on other floors?
The elevators were installed as Haughton's in 1972, and 6 of the 8 elevators in this bank were modernized in mid-2017 by Schindler. The age of these elevators has alot to do with this unfortunately, as this elevator system was badly neglected over the 45 years it was in service.
Now that said though, most elevators this age and even older are usually in pretty decent shape, if they are taken care of and actually repaired when they have issues, but unfortunatelty as you probably saw in my video, this system wasn't taken care of and the building owners didn't give a shit...... which fucking SUCKED!!! These were some frickin' awesome elevators and it sucked ass to see these go.... :(
Update. As of September 2019 the elevator on the left is no longer original. :( It was modded by Schindler with MAD BS fixtures, and put on a 6400NA control system, which means the good ole Haughton relay logic system is gone. :( I tried getting parts from Chase, but had no luck in doing so... which to me, sucks, as these were my favorite elevators that went over 1,000 fpm and over 20 stories. That said, hopefully all of you guys that once rode these beauties see this comment, because I know several people who really enjoyed these elevators, myself included. :(

@@JimLiElevators Yes, many elevator companies are nearly impossible to get ahold of which is why I haven't gotten any parts lately. I don't really need anymore parts but it would be nice to get a few, especially from some of the elevators that have been modded...:( But sadly, as you said, that is probably pretty unlikely. :/ I tried getting parts from the Allies Garage in Pittsburgh but Jared said the parts were already gone by the time he could ask. I really hate to say it but I think vintage elevators are gonna be a thing of the past.
I think we can call this century The Modern Century since many things including elevators nowadays looks more modern than back then.
Also, thanks for the update. Sad to know Schindler didn’t care about saving parts for you.
@@williamguzman2663 A LOT of elevators have been getting modernized as of late. This isn't anything new. It has been going on since 2014-2015. MANY MANY amazing original vintage elevators since then have bitten the dust due to modernization such as the Ritz Carlton in Chicago, Sibley's in Rochester, pretty much ALL of the original elevators at Macy's in Pittsburgh... Chase Tower in Rochester, Investment Building in Pittsburgh, just to name a few... :(
It had a sign above the buttons saying construction use only though, that was his fault, I'm terrified of elevators I wouldn't have used the one with construction use only at all, and he just riding it to be riding it, your trying to get stuck

Most of these multi tenant buildings don’t care for the most part what you’re doing or where you’re going in the building. But that all being said, they still have the right to ask you what you’re doing, why you’re there and who you’re visiting as it is private property and they need to keep the building safe

The Schindlers aren’t bad at all, agreed. They are just fairly generic compared to the old Haughton’s... I still do enjoy riding them, but I love the Haughton’s WAYYYYYY more. 😄😉🙂
I agree. It would be nice to still have relay logic in the new elevators, but the old Haughton controllers didn’t exactly work correctly. It would also be nice to have the old L Series fixtures reused but refurbished.

These Elevators Needed the Mod Sadly. Haughton Elevators Are Rare These Days. But it Needed the Mod
these did need the mod but i am still pretty upset they got the mod. alot of these old Haughton system's nowadays are not well taken care of unfortunately and this system was a great example... As much as i LOVED these, I still am gonna say these badly needed a mod and anyone who rode these can't really deny it. Look at how poorly they run on camera in my video and look at how long it had a controller glitch for. PERFECT way to show that these are in desperate need of a mod. Now as far as the old service elevator goes I'm not entirely sure what is happening with it but I would have to assume it will be modded too. :( However i am not sure until i go back to chase sometime soon here.

Why is that a good thing?!? I do NOT want this thing to get modded, it’s a HAUGHTON!!! Haughton elevators are now VERY rare thanks to elevator modernization... While I know that this thing kind of does need a mod, I really don’t want to see it get modded. :(

Good lord when you put your hands in between the doors I got a mini heart attack...Jesus I thought that would be my first time seeing someone loose there hands to a entrapment Hazard.......the uhh sensors are a little slow eh?
if you dont like watch you're watching, then LEAVE and watch another video. I first of all know what I'm doing. my hands were nowhere CLOSE to getting stuck in the door, I was trying to open the doors by like an inch or two to see which floor i was on and if I was stuck in between floors. Turns out I actually was going up and down up and down constantly due to a controller glitch. Basically alot of these old elevators run on controllers called relay logic controllers and if they aren't well maintained or taken care of they can end up like this and start to fall apart.. They are probably the best controllers made in terms of reliability and longevity but this system has sadly been totally neglected. :(
