Its september 2023 here in eastern Canada,I have a Sidewinder and Im getting the itch to get going,so thank you for allowing me to ride along with you.I like the colors on your Riot.
up here in northern ontario i started riding this year jan 8th and my new sled was parked march 6th. shortest winter i ever saw. hopefully this year we get some snow!!
Great footage awesome Ride It's nice how you show intersections I know exactly where you're at when you stop know the trails like the back of my hand good times
Looks like you rode through my property which is near Pickford, trail 491. Didn't see it on the video. Be careful of off trail riding. When they say "Watch for Rocks" they mean it. All along the trail on my property there are some pretty big boulders. I'd hate to hit one on a sled.
Grew up in the UP..'50's--'70's. Sure don't seem to get the snow of years ago. We had old 1 longer sleds back in the day!! Remember riding to school, no busses due to storms& snow for country kids!! One day it was -24 when we started out. About 8 miles each way. Left early & played around before proceeding to school!! Good memories.
Great video Mike. Pretty cool seeing stuff I've seen quite often. You are right about the snow fall this winter in northern Michigan. The lake effect snows were real sparse, & most system snows were south of us in southern Mich, Ohio & Indiana. When it was snowing down there, the sun might be out up here.
Awesome sled adventure there. Those new sleds you and your friends have really sound like my dads 1998 Arctic cat 600. Best sounding sled ever and it seems like the new sleds are starting to sound like it and I’m so glad. The loud roaring SCREAMS power. Hoping to a better snow season unlike last year.
At 15:34, that is why I love sledding. The scenery, the view and the fun factor. Great video Mike. Our season was not so grand on the east coat (New England) either for snowfall. Season usually starts Dec 15th but all trails closed till mid January, some even later. BTW, I know why you bough the Artic Cat, only brand that has some of the Versatile colors. Look forward to your Wyoming videos....and tractors too of course.
Used to go the UP 2 times during winter for 20+ years and we stayed at Trout Lake , You could ride to any border and back in a big day great times , That bar you were in at Trout Lake used to be called Tobys bar and grill many a fun nights in there after riding . We would ride out to Mackinac Island if the ice was right between the xmas trees very cool trip . Greetings from Greenville Ohio great vid .
@@JeffGeorgalas I will, thank you. And if you ever want to see if your carbides are sharp enough, come to WI and test em out. Lots of curvy trails here!
Great footage, I was the kid on the older articat along my dad on the blue apex. We were parked right next to y’all, great sleds .been trying to find your bid because I knew you were posting, can’t wait for next year
They even have their own hand signals and etiquette! Try it out, breaks the non stop winter months. Us yoopers are happy to welcome you and any other snow ventures'.
My niece lives a couple miles east outside of Birch Run MI. We had that BLT and 2 of us shared it. I have been across the "Mighty Mac" many times. I have done the circumnavigation of Lake Michigan - over the top FdL thru St Ignace to Birch Run and the next day BR thru Chicago to FdL. Got home by lunch.
was there from feb28th till march 4th, awesome trip cant wait to go back next year we stayed in Marquette. I ride a 2019 800 rr arctic cat all day ride safe ride right
Very first time riding in the U. P. started in Newberry, end up staying the night in Munising and went back to Newberry. After that, I was hooked and have been up riding several times and counting.
I was able to put 1200 miles on my new VR1 Polaris in a month of riding here in PA, didn’t make it to the UP this year, made two trips to New York, looking at the conditions up there decided not go this week, we usually go up by the Kewanee peninsula, We like the elevation change better than the eastern side that’s flat, glad to see you had a great trip, too bad you couldn’t ride over to the island and avoid the ferry
In northern Ontario there are no trails open around me just some about 50 miles east. It's cold enough here for winter but there is no snow! Just hard packed snow and ice. Just need some snow. However, I dont think this season will be as bad as last winter, my dad and i didn't get on trails until January 29!! That was also my first real trail season because I just turned 12 and just got my snowmobile license. Not a good introduction to trail riding. Praying this year is better
Angios is always the stop when headed to Drummond! Been a couple years since I’ve been out that way, due to low snow. Hopefully this year is different!
Great video !! I’ve ridden those trails quite a few times, also Marquette, Houghton over to Hurley Wisconsin through the porcupine Mountains. I’ve taken the fairy ride over to Drummond island then rode the 11 mile ice bridge over to Canada.. Great memories.. Subscribed 👍🏼👍🏼
Awsome video! At the part where you said you would never ride to mackinaw island I think you should rethink that and look up the ice bridge. Dnr is up there and will let you know if it is safe. There is a 5 dollar fee once you get into mackinaw island for their own personal registration since they typically don’t allow motor vehicles there but well worth it for a different experience.
My oldest son sent me this video the other day. We live a couple of blocks away from the ferry boat in DeTour Village. When you are on the Ferry boat on your way to Drummond Island, you walk right past my car and you can see my younger son in the passenger seat. It's the most beautiful place to live, I wouldn't live anywhere else. Edited: You also see my son and my husband walking from the same boat Scott came back on. This must have been the day they took my car over to be repaired at Island Auto. -Kirsten
Great job! I got first sled last season and was hooked. Got new 900 turbo r on order. Planning on doing the UP trip. This gave me a great foresight of what to expect. Thank you!
Hope you enjoyed your time in God's country. Sorry we don't have much snow but I don't mind an easy winter once and a while. I'm about 40 minutes west of Drummond.
Best riding is in da UP. We use to park at Trout Lake and backpack west across the upper, seems like we always had to party at Michigan Tech for a night or two... Had a lot of fun on my ol' F6 thru the upper.
Back in my younger days I would go on atv trips with freinds who own land close to tequamanin falls. I remember the Bear Butt Bar, Silver Creek and Tumble Inn. Lol Tumble Inn got shut down for serving minors then caved in from snow load I'd heard.
88 is fast enough, most of the time you are not going that fast. There were times I was not keeping up and it was getting blocky, but I caught up at the end of the video.😀 I like stopping and waiting at the stop signs, and intersections so the group does not get separated, that is what I do in my four wheeler videos.
We are renting Indy 650s. I’m just hoping they hit 100mph. Last time I was on a 100mph sled was a 2010 Yamaha. My old man used to always rent the sleds so he got 550s lol. I was looking for even bigger sled but that’s all headwaters rents is the new 650 which should at least hit 90 I hope. I love speed.
Just north of you in St. Joe/ Benton Harbor, only if we get snow like we did last winter. We haven't had any decent riding down here for a few years now, that is until this last winter ( 2020/21). Hopefully this winter will be even better, all the predictions are saying so :-)
Mike, what type of fuel do sleds run on now mainly? I am not a snowmobiler so have no idea if they are still mainly 2 stroke. They sound like it to me. If you stop and buy gas and they are two stroke, I take it they run of an oil tank that injects it into the gas while operating so you don't have to worry about buying mixed gas etc?
Yes most snowmobiles are two strokes and have oil injection. Ideally you need to run premium gas (91 octane) and I try to run ethanol free. Four stroke snowmobiles are available but they are just heavier and generally more expensive.
@@farmhandmike Thanks for the reply. I imagine 4 strokes are a bit slower too, at least as far as getting moving and up to speed? I used to run 4 stroke dirt bikes and that's how it was compared to the big 500 2 strokes, but given the room to wind them out, they'd leave the 500 2 strokes far behind.
Great video! Im a colorado rider. But my sister just moved to curtis/newberry for a nursing job. What month do you think would be best to bring a sled out? Also. I second the "inreach." As a backcountry rider and hiker. I dont go without it!!
Thanks Mike, best of riding to you this winter! If you're riding wyoming again, hit the Snowy Range by Laramie, If you haven't yet. It'll put your cat to work. I ride an 153" m8000 primarily, and it does great in the deep stuff.
Everyone always asks the speed. Guess no one caught your 88mph comment. Clever like a gigawatt overload. But ya, I heard a lot of people say the snow was low this season.
Its september 2023 here in eastern Canada,I have a Sidewinder and Im getting the itch to get going,so thank you for allowing me to ride along with you.I like the colors on your Riot.

Awesome video we stayed in Hulbert this weekend and hit many of the trails you rode! Awesome video and love the UP!

Nice job, it felt like we took the trip with you. Have riden up there many times on wheels but haven’t crossed the bridge yet and rode on a sled.
Awesome video, thanks for sharing! We are up in that area now!
From one cat rider to the next. Love the video Mike!
Awesome ride Mike thanks for taking us along have a great day be safe.

Sure enjoyed watching your UP snowmobile trip.
great video. always neat to see familiar things from someone elses view
That's a good looking Artic Cat.

I just rode out to Mackinac Island a few day ago. Video will be coming soon.
Thanks for posting. It reminded me why I dislike MI snowmobiling. Mostly straightaways, and too much traffic. WI for me.
As a resident of the U.P., I couldn't be happier to hear you say that. PLEASE stay in WI.
@@JeffGeorgalas I will, thank you. And if you ever want to see if your carbides are sharp enough, come to WI and test em out. Lots of curvy trails here!
Great video Mike really enjoyed it , loved seeing the Big Mac. Again
Makes me remember the old days at hunt farms, trips ta minding and running the old 935 ,best mudder ever on the farm!!! Enjoyed the story👍👍
awesome video, i've been riding the U.P for 40yrs now, been all over up there sure has changed over the yrs, but all for the good!!
Great footage, I was the kid on the older articat along my dad on the blue apex. We were parked right next to y’all, great sleds .been trying to find your bid because I knew you were posting, can’t wait for next year
Great footage looks like a great time.
Id love to travel that bridge I know it's gotta be breath taking going across it.
Having never really snowmobiled, I find it really interesting that the snowmobile paths had roadsigns like on normal highways.
They even have their own hand signals and etiquette! Try it out, breaks the non stop winter months. Us yoopers are happy to welcome you and any other snow ventures'.
Great video! I am a cat guy from ND. We rode the UP for the first time this January. We rode the keewanaw peninsula. Great Experience
Thanks for the video Mike, I'm a cat guy also👍
Enjoyed it Mike. Thanks for sharing.😁👍

Hello from Marquette. I enjoy the videos. Keep up the good work.
Looks like a blast makes me wish I could do that again.
Sure is some beautiful scenery up there.

I live by Marquette and was disappointed in our season last year. This one is much better.

I actually rode the ice bridge a few weeks ago. It’s on my last Michigan snowmobile video

Well now that’s an amazing story. This was an experience going over to the island.

join a club
Hell yeah Mr. Less this is great
Hope you enjoyed your time in God's country. Sorry we don't have much snow but I don't mind an easy winter once and a while. I'm about 40 minutes west of Drummond.
Isn’t that region nice, Newberry is so beautiful. I’ve been there many times in summer but i really would loved to go in the winter for snowmobile.
I've never been up that far in Michigan or to mackinaw but would love to go I hope this year
Hey I could see my house behind that combine 😂 great video!
Best riding is in da UP. We use to park at Trout Lake and backpack west across the upper, seems like we always had to party at Michigan Tech for a night or two... Had a lot of fun on my ol' F6 thru the upper.
Dam mike!!..how fast you boys going through those trails??...a lot of trees on both sides....
I love seeing the good ol gas pumps of yesteryear
I like the blue accents on your cat
thank you for the video i thought it was awesome
Back in my younger days I would go on atv trips with freinds who own land close to tequamanin falls. I remember the Bear Butt Bar, Silver Creek and Tumble Inn. Lol Tumble Inn got shut down for serving minors then caved in from snow load I'd heard.
Ice just let out in the rivers here in Maine...at least another month before we can plant
We like going up to Sault Ste. Marie good riding up there
great vid .put a windshield on that cat !! look cool stay cool! lol!!!
I have never been on a ride anywhere near that many miles without a breakdown, they must have improved them from back in my day riding,
88 is fast enough, most of the time you are not going that fast. Have you sledded in Alger County yet?
I grew up watching the bridge being built.
18:27. Exactly why I don't ride anywhere near Newberry.
What kind of camera did you use? GoPro?
Arctic Cats are the best.
lmao, love your vids buddy ! i love riding there too !
Arctic Cat is where its at!
island breeze heating and air was on that boat lol i bet thats one heck of a charge on that call lol
I ride all the time in grand marias..paradise area
Very nice trip👍😉
Great video!
You need to buy a trail sled so you can turn. Why did you buy a mountain sled for Michigan trails?
You should come sometime to South Bend and ride over to new Buffalo
Just north of you in St. Joe/ Benton Harbor, only if we get snow like we did last winter. We haven't had any decent riding down here for a few years now, that is until this last winter ( 2020/21). Hopefully this winter will be even better, all the predictions are saying so :-)
hey grandpa are u going to keep up ? Just teasing u buddy !
Was that versatile?
Love this video
Fascinating!! I want to do this... How do you navigate???
They have trail maps to follow and everything is well marked.
Did u Hit kincheloe
Nice video, I see the Ohio sticker on your machine. Are you from the buckeye?
Yes I am.
Usually you can ride a crossed to Drummond
I'm sure your buddy Scott was probably not too happy that you left without him on the ferry lol
What they did to him was pure neglect and a violation of snowmobile rules-I'd tell them to fuck off.100%wrong in every respect.
I love winter in the UP

You'll need to get to the deep Wyoming snow to sweat some of that lodge beer out of your system.
whats the story of the memorial at 25:50 ?

What days was this on?
What was the trailer size? Looking for a 3 place myself
26 goot I believe.
Try mackinaw Island
Nice video 👌😊👌
I’ve been on it several times
Don’t now if I like the Arctic cat but looked like a cool vid
And what’s not to like about Arctic Cat? It’s all I’ve ever had for snowmobiles.
Everyone always asks the speed. Guess no one caught your 88mph comment. Clever like a gigawatt overload. But ya, I heard a lot of people say the snow was low this season.
How good does you riot Handel
I really like it. It did good in Wyoming also.
U hit all my spots!
Man I just realized how gay that sounds lol
nice vid :)
Ditch Bangin Braaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaap
Me I rode snowmobile on the river this winter
Not a fan of Cat, but an excellent video nonetheless! 👍
The skidoo guys sure are waiting on an article cat an awful lot.
Thats because the Arctic Cat guy is riding and filming and still keeping up.
👍👍
