The problem with the Nyos running "wet" is simply solved by adjusting the height of the water (up or down) in the sump a tiny bit. The higher the water level, the "wetter" the skimmer will run and vice-versa. Alternately, I cut a triangle-shaped piece of styrofoam (apx. 2 inches high, 1 inch at the base of the triangle - tapering off, and 1/4 of an inch thick). I place this over the round suction intake at the bottom of the skimmer. This is a super quick way to control the amt. of water being sucked in which, in turn, controls how wet or dry the skimmer runs.
They actually have what's called a "holiday cup" that you can get, that does have the drain port on it. Or, a quick drill bit would accomplish the same...which indeed would be nice since it's a tiny cup. :)
Hi can I ask a strange question I have a AIO tank the space I would have for the skimmer is 85mm x 140mm or 3.364 inches x 5.9 inches would it fit if the magnets are removed
Does this only surface skim? I have a nuvo 20 and cant get it to make skimmate no matter what height or adjustment. i think it might be missing an airline or something. I see many that have this nozzle and a tube coming from it. I have a nozzle by the adjustment but no tube. It also has a leak by the rubberband that lets you lift or lower the cup. I can see small amount of water coming from there! I bought it used! It bubbles up but either fills to fast or not at all. Its crazy! I love the black tinted cap to hide the nasty gunk this has but dont want just surface skimming. I was reading an article about this skimmer and it say doc (whatever that means) surface skimmer! I also know this is a very very old model (over a decade) so makes me think it might be outdated!
There are 0 videos on troubleshooting this skimmer. I’m getting too much foam and even when I tighten the knob to restrict airflow, I get no foam. There is no happy medium
I would try raising the skimmer up to lower the water in the chamber...see if that helps make it so the foam is slower to enter the cup...and of course making very small adjustments to the airknob, then give it a day or two and then adjust again if needed.
Yea, unfortunately for super small systems, you don't have a lot of options. You might check out the ReefGlass skimmer or Eshopp's nano skimmer, not sure you'll find anything else much smaller than the Tunze's (compared to normal skimmers).

It would be nice if they added a drain line. With such a tiny cup it will have to be emptied pretty often, especially when put on larger system.

These small in-aquarium skimmers are not so suitable for a living room right? Quit noisy. Unless you have a lid on your tank which will keep it quiet.

You definitely can, it'll just be taking up space in your tank is the only thing.
