      Disagree. I’ve had mine for a year and it’s trash. Ato keeps water right at water mark level ive tried 1/2” below. Nope. Now after cleaning it collection cup fills up with water in two minutes with air valve closed all the way. And let’s not mention the piece that clips on top of skimmer wheel a propeller broke within three months of owning. DEF not worth the $120 I paid for it.

    Parker... can you please confirm that the Dunan coral, is the coral with two "heads" that have neon green centres? If its not a Duncan, what is the name of that coral? Also I've got the Tunze 9001 which is excellent. I just purchased a Tunze 9004 from ebay, but unfortunatey the pump is dead :-( In your opinion would using the 9001 in a Red Sea MAX 250, (very light stockig) be pointless, as I know its not rated for 250 litres. Not sure I'll have another 9004 soon... Incidently what was your opinion on the stock skimmer that came with the original Max 250? I suppose that is another option, but have read many complaints about that skimmer, especially heat & noise. I'd appreciate your thoughts? Many thanks, love the channel!

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You might be thinking of candy cane corals?
      9001 will work, but it will not make enough of a dent even with low stocking. It just won’t process enough water.

    Another great video Sam. I have been using this skimmer in my waterbox 20 office tank and this skims like a beast.
    I bought this second hand so there is some adjustments to make to reduce the noise I guess. The blue floss is missing, guessing having one will reduce the noise from the pump?

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think the blue foam just helps keep junk out of the pump? If you give it a good clean - it should be pretty quiet, what sort of noise is it making?

    I don't understand, this comparison with the Aquamedic Truboflotor blue 500. I had that Skimmer and it worked very well until recently, the motor died.
    Now i'm using the Tunze 9001 and it dosen't perform that well- It fills the skimmer cup very fast with a skimmate i can even look though. It's maybe because of the low bioload at the moment and i will see if that change with my new stocking. But until now I can't confirm bad performans from the Aqua Medic nor a good performans from the Tunze. even thoug the later could change soon.

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      is my personal experience, but of course will vary from user to user! I've had a turboflotor blue 500 for about 8 or 9 years now, bought brand new and has rarely ever produced anything. Has always been noisy too :/ But the little it did produce was better than nothing and it did a great job of aerating the water. I just thought that nano skimmers must all be that bad, then I tried the 9001. Was amazed. It filled the cup with dark skimmate, was quiet and easy to tune. Couldn't be happier!

    Hello. Thank you for the video. I have a question. I have this skimmer but it doesn't fit entirely because of my lid. I have a 36 gallon bowfront tank. If I want the skimmer to fit with the lid closed, the water line is above the skimmer waterline mark. Will that affect the skimmers functionality? Or should I lower my water level so it meets the skimmers water level mark? Thank you!

    I wonder, the flow within the Tunze 9001 is around 25 gallons per hour right? The flow through the backchambers however is way bigger (in my Waterbox nano it's 125-250 gallon per hour).
    This means only 10-20% of the total flow gets skimmed. I wonder if this weighs up against the loss of biological filtration material you had to remove to fit the skimmer.
    Overall i'm not convinced if a skimmer is a good idea in a aio tank.

    • @ParkersReef
      @ParkersReef  3 ปีที่แล้ว

    • @Harolddespui
      @Harolddespui 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ParkersReef Even with a conservative turnover of 5x my skim/sumpflow ratio would be 1:3 = 33% removal of proteïn waste.
      In big tanks with big sumps and big skimmers a ratio in the 1:1 ballpark is pretty common.
      Those nano skimmers just don't seem to be big enough. Maybe for a Pico tank. :-)
      If you have a 5 gallon pico tank with a 5x turnover then the ratio is 1:1, which is perfect.

    This skimmer is horrible. I’ve had it for a year and it’s still trash. Ato keeps water level perfect but it continues to fill skimmer cup with water in two minutes even with air intake valve closed all the way.
