    Back then I was angry as a Hill fan but thought of it as just a one off move by Schumacher who just got desparate in like Jonathan Palmer said in commentary "A real moment of crisis." So I just put it down as a actions of a man who panicked. Thankfully Hill won his world title in 96.
    What really angered me later though was when he tried this exact same move again on Jacques Villeneuve in the 1997 title decider, and then again, waiting by the side of the track to see if Villeneuve came around, just like he did at Adelaide.

      @@laurentcambon Bullshit! Hill won because Villeneuve had an issue but it wouldn't have mattered because Hill lead the championship into the final race which he also won & Villeneuve crashed out because he couldn't cope with the pressure of Hill's blistering pace. These are pure facts not excuses.
      But your comment sounds like an excuse to dis Hill so I'm now going to do the same in Favor of Lewis Hamilton explaining to why he is a more convincing 7 times world champion than Schumacher.
      In 94 Schumacher deserved to be banned from Silverstone for accelerating past Damon on the warm up lap before the start of the race which he did on at least two separate occasions. Benetton cheated throughout most of the year using illegal traction control systems. Schumacher deliberately drove into Hill in Adelaide to win the title.
      Between 2000 & 2004, Ferrari had some of the most dominant F1 cars in the history of the sport & also Barrichello who quite often kicked Schumacher's ass had to move over to let him win. Most of those Ferrari's were so dominant compared to the Mercedes of today. Also Hamilton has never had team orders in his favor throughout a season neither has he ever had to drive into anyone or somehow cheat to win. He had to work his ass off to win all 7 of his titles fair & square unlike Schumacher who took Hill out at Adelaide, Villeneuve attempt failed at Jerez, Came out of the pit lane & drove Frentzen of the track into retirement at Montreal & almost forced Barrichello to crash by over defending at the Hungaroring although at least one of those wasn't relevant to Schumacher in a championship title fight, it still is clear evidence that shows what a dirty cheating cu*t he was.

    I was angry with Schumacher at that time but seeing it now over and over again I have to admit that it was correct not to disqualify him for this. Even though Schumacher made a mistake at the previous corner, Hill forcibly tried to overtake him afterwards. Hill was still clearly behind him when he tried to overtake. In this case I think Hill has to brake. Schumacher does not have to give him space when he clearly is in front of him. If you think Schumacher should keep „the door open“ still I think it was not smart by Hill to forcibly overtake in this corner. If he would have kept calm and kept a clear head he for sure would have had a better chance later in the race. I‘m sorry but for me, now seeing it more neutrally, it was the mistake by Hill which costed him the championship.
    And concerning the Villeneuve incident later, that is NOT the same event like what happened to Hill as Villeneuve was in front during the overtaking maneuver. This was clearly Schumacher‘s fault in that case and a correct disqualification, giving advantage to Villeneuve.

      Lol, Schumacher's right rear suspension was broken, you can see it wobbling after he comes back in track. There's no way he was going to finish the race with the car in that state so he did the only thing he could and took Hill out. He quite clearly looks in both mirrors and then swerves to the right once he sees Hill coming. Sure, Hill could have waited but he hadn't seen Schumacher go off track so didn't know his car was damaged. Whatever, doesn't change the fact it was a desperate and dirty move by Schumacher.

  • @kevinscott1697
    @kevinscott1697 4 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    Hill had been held up by a backmarker on the lap before the crash and crucially wasn’t right behind Schumacher when he hit the wall so didn’t see him hit the wall and know Schumacher s car was damage and thought he had to pass Schumacher there and then but if he’d just stayed behind him he would have past him further around, it’s interesting that he wasn’t disqualified from the championship but he was disqualified when he done the same thing in Jerez in 1997 when he didn’t win the title.

    "Cheating" probably isn't the appropriate word. It connotes a plan of some sort. This was a reaction. In the heat of the crisis, all he had time to think was that he absolutely had to stay in front of Hill. His move to accomplish that was reckless and should have been penalized as a violation, though. People say he was 'dirty' but in this instance, he was just competitive and desperate, all in the space of a few seconds.

    • @surebrec5113
      @surebrec5113 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      the phrase "cheating" can apply to any action that is intended to dishonestly manufacture an outcome, it doesn't have to have a plan to do it. maradona's "hand of god" happened in the heat of the moment, would you say that wasn't cheating?
      saying he was competitive and desperate, and then trying water the accusation of cheating down doesn't square.
      what he did WAS cheating, and he cemented his reputation again in the championship deciding race just 3 seasons later, which thankfully worked against him, because of his past form. cheats don't need to plan in advance, they can cheat on call as and when they need to.

    • @CentaurusRelax314
      @CentaurusRelax314 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@surebrec5113 We don't disagree. But, as you said, the word "cheating" *_can_* apply to any action...etc. My perspective was that, in this specific discussion, there's a nuanced difference between 'a cheater' versus someone who panicked, and reacted improperly, which then resulted in an advantage. The results are the same. The character of the person is different.

    • @surebrec5113

      @@CentaurusRelax314 your perspective is wrong.

    • @CentaurusRelax314
      @CentaurusRelax314 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@surebrec5113 By that strict, context-less definition, then every driver is guilty of "cheating," because they've all made bad decisions in a moment of reaction to something. You're also discounting psychology and situation altogether. Schumacher had time to process ONE thing in that moment-that he needed to be in front of Hill to win a championship that he had worked for all year. To be honest, from the first video perspective i watched, i held your viewpoint-that he was a dirty, calculated cheater. From the second two perspectives, the timing was so quick, and his car position wasn't so that he could see anything of value in his mirrors-the impulse to get back on track and stay ahead was all there was time for. That's not a matter of an 'option to act properly.' And i don't think that makes someone a "cheater" in isolation. If you're driving your hatchback to the market and swerve to avoid a tortoise on the road, and then subsequently hit a cyclist on the other side of the road, you didn't really have an 'option to act properly.' You reacted with negative consequence. Now, if you want to add up other 'deeds,' that's a different story. Either way, i do believe he should have been penalized and not won the championship. An advantage gotten by improper means should not have been 'rewarded.'

    • @surebrec5113
      @surebrec5113 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@CentaurusRelax314 not every driver deliberately drove a title rival off at the defining moment of the season.
      prost did it to senna in '89, and vice versa in '90. schumacher did it twice in '94 and '97. he also deliberately parked his car at the exit of the next to last corner of the track in monaco to preserve his pole position time, or was that another example of a "decision taken in the moment"?
      he cheated. he fucked up by going off the track, he knew he had fucked up, he knew hill was right behind him and was going to take the place and potentially win the title. you don't need more than a split second to decide to cheat.
      again, maradona's "hand of god".
      furthermore, I need to add, it wasn't a split-second decision. after the impact, he had several seconds to come to the realisation that he'd fucked up.
