    *I love it! **Fastly.Cool** and Warming environment perfectly controlled. Being able to track history temp and humidity takes all the guesswork out of the equation. Had it for two weeks now and it has been flawless!*

    For the record, I have the Nest E for just under a year and it does in fact have motion detector capability. The screen is remains blank until someone approaches with in reading distance then room and setting temps appear.

      You are correct the Nest E does have an occupancy sensor which is a motion sensor. What it does not have is the nest farsight motion sensor that is built into the Nest Gen 3 with all the Gen 3 features. I misspoke in the video and unfortunately once it's uploaded I can only make limited changes to the video. I hope this clarifies any questions people have. If you want to learn more about what the Nest farsight feature can do this video provides an in depth explaination: th-cam.com/video/_qvVFT02tC4/w-d-xo.html

      I just switched between these too, E to Gen 3. All went ok except the testing doesn't work but the normal operation worked. I have forced air heater only, I have ground blue wire at C, Red wire @ RH, Green wire at G, White wire at W1. Test did not work while normal operation is good, what a mystery.

    Also the E works with 2 stage heat with a heat pump. O/B would be stage 1 heat and stage 2 would be w1 with would be auxilary heat.

    Not sure you said the nest E dose not have the motion sensor I have have one and when you walk by it turns on shows the temperature

      It uses a proximity sensor instead of a motion sensor

      @@txrtl3 The "proximity sensor," as you term it, awakens the display when you move within range, and if you stand still in front of it, it times-out and goes dark, only to come alive again when you move--it's a motion sensor.

    Nest says the 3rd Gen is not compatible with high voltage systems. Can the Nest Thermostat E be a replacement for an old high voltage thermostat (mercury based that are rated 30V max)?

      A YT'er named Maurits Nienhuis did a video replacing his 30v with the E. Search YT for "Nest Thermostat Install (Replacing old 2 wire thermostat) - FAQ in Description"

    the nest e does have a motion sensor, so the display wakes up when you get near it + it does support home away assist. i actually prefer the E. i think it looks cleaner, and i’m not interested in the farsight options of showing the weather for example. i want to see the target temp, “what the thermostat is set to”. plus it shows the actual temp anyway. but if need the 3rd gen due to compatibility, sure then get it.
    aesthetic wise, i don’t like the 3rd gen learning black bezel. it’s too big. at least it should have more color options, based on which trim you get. all our light switches are white, and the e blends in so well near them.

      I think that is a proximity sensor instead of a motion sensor, but I do feel like he is trying to upsell the Nest over Nest E. Personally I like the look of the Nest E over the black Nest 3rd gen.

      @@jasonliu3202 ah interesting! Also someone recently told me the learning model “learns” better, but I haven’t seen anything online talking about that -_-

      @@willbelasco I wouldn't believe one will be adapted a worse algorithm only because it is cheaper version. How this thing learns is based on how well the software is. Better hardware might make it learns a bit faster but the end result should be the same. The fact is, the Nest supports not only the heating but also the cooling and etc. So it is kind of "smarter" and more complex. But like my home, I only have baseboard heater so, both should works exactly the same.

    If i have a radiator system do you think the E would be the preferred way to go?

    Do both have the same battery? Built in as opposed to the Nest with a couple rechargeable batteries?

    Thank you for the video. My wiring are W and RH. I found no compatability issues when I checked for compatibility. When I finished and connected the base the unit wouldn't turn on. Why? Thank you in advance.

    Hello there! I have a question about my set up! My color wires are as follow
    R- wire is red
    C- wire is blue
    O- wire is brown
    W2- wire is white
    G- wire is green
    Y1- wire is yellow
    My hvac system is a heat pump with emergency heat from the air handler!
    I’m trying to hook it up to a nest/e thermostat and I’m have a hard time coming up with the solution! I’m thinking of dropping the w2-wire and just running all the other wires to the nest e thermostat! Would that work for me?

    does the nighttime temp. hold, until I wake up and set it to the desired daytime temp.? I thought I had mine set for nighttime but I felt the temp. in my home was way too warm when I got up. I want it to stay 65 at night and 70 during the day.

    Do you know if Nest Thermostat would work with Dual fuel system? My heater is baseboard ( gas ) based and AC is in the attic , separate units for two floors. I can not use Nest 3 system cause I do not have a C wire installed ( its very hard to get the ew wire through walls, etc in my house) Thanks for your help.

      @OneHourSmartHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the Nest 3rd Generation: amzn.to/3l2Uvie works with dual fuel systems and is the best option for dual fuel systems. Also it does not always require a common wire. In most cases you won't need a common wire. However if you do need a common wire you can watch these videos that show you two options for adding a common wire: th-cam.com/video/gahPxCcPDto/w-d-xo.html or th-cam.com/video/w0BZPx8-Q5o/w-d-xo.html

    Hi, I tried to replace my analog HVAC and Oil heater thermostats with a Nest E. I have a Rh and Rc wire. Where should they go? Am I not compatible? Do I need the more expensive Nest?

    • @OneHourSmartHome
      @OneHourSmartHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would use the Nest Gen 3: amzn.to/2XQtSna since it has better support for dual fuel systems which is what your system is.
