Nothing more to say then it's broke down and I can't fix it where I'm at. Check out the website for more trucking With schmidt truckingwithschmidt.com/ #truckinglifestyle #truckdriver #Indiana
The road is a very lonely place when things go sideways. For what it's worth, you did a very good job explaining things to your viewers. Those of us who have been in that situation were right there with you.
Sorry to hear about the bad luck, maybe you could work off room & board in the quality inn laundry room .Looks like you have some mean ironing skills, Good luck.
It sucks to be broken down out away from home. I spent a week in South Bend Indiana back in the nineties while truck was getting rebuilt at Caterpillar. Blew a tip off a injector and destroyed the motor. Spent 5 days in a hotel in Albany New York because I blew a turbo on a Detroit on a Friday and the shop wasn't going to touch it till Monday. It sucks. Got my purchase, enjoyed the note. Remember talking to me on the phone? Well I jumped in....I have 3 up.
I too am glad you are safe and ok. I ‘m also sorry that 1st Class is broken down. The one thing that I ‘m the sorriest for, is the ridiculous amount of money that they’re charging you for it all! May God keep you safe and get you through all this! Keep your chin up. This will all work out!
Once had same happen to me. Pulled fan off, used pliers to squeeze leaks shut as much as possible and dumped a can of, bad habit tobacco into radiator. Pepper, raw eggs also work. Was enough to slow the leak and get 350 miles back home. Sometimes need some out of the box ingenuity. Good luck partner
On a ski trip in college, some radiator tubes got cut by foreign object damage, in a 1973 Triumph GT6 MK3 2-seater. A friend of mine was in the college auto racing club. He crumpled up aluminum foil, rolled it between his fingers to shape it to fit into each cut tube, with extra inbetween any spaces where he could plug multiple tubes from one gash. Jammed in it, then crimped the tubes any which way we could. Some with pliers, some with hammers from both sides, some doing that in many places. Once a tube is cut and then shut, shutting it in 5 places is better than shutting it in 1 place. Then we loaded 10 gallon jugs of water into the car. Radiator cap on just to the first click, to prevent splashing/bubbling out, but not to create/hold pressure. Every 30 minutes, I stopped and topped up the water. Made it from Killington to Boston using only about 3 or 4 gallons of water. A girl I'd met on that trip, which was during my year off from college (I was invited skiing by my friends on the college newspaper), kindly invited me to spend the night with her, so I could drive home during daylight. That was 46 years ago. Our twins are 36, we've been divorced for 32 years, and all's well that ends well. Which means not having to see each other too often, just when dealing with major family events, now things like grandkid birthday parties. No need to use antifreeze in a system that is leaking it out. Water is fine. Preferably distilled or reverse osmosis, but really anything will do temporarily. Just plan on doing a drain and fill once your system is back up to snuff, and of course don't let it freeze in the meantime without adding antifreeze.
#144 Mr. Schmidt, I know your pain. It will be July 24th, before I can get my Motorhome in the shop for repairs. The R/V Service Centers are very busy at this time of the year. But for you, it's your employment---food on the table. If the wheels aren't turning, your not earning! I'm retired, but not going anywhere soon---wasting my summer away. At the age of 76, I don't have that much time. Happiness is The Highway!
Hopefully everything will work out okay. Have faith and I know things will work out. You looked so sad when they hooked up First Class to the tow truck.
Kurt... You should have broadcast live when u broke down. I am only about 20 miles from where you broke down in Plymouth. Could have drove down there and helped you out.
The main key to the whole process was the “thinking process”. Put a plan together and feel good about it. Prioritize what you needs to be done. Load is #1 priority. Parts availability. Why wait til Monday to get them ordered. Utilize the weekend in your favor. Plan the work, do it yourself or have someone do it. Accommodations, go home, get a room for the duration. Just gotta think it all through and make the right choices. Good luck with your new project. Stay safe, stay happy!
Sorry to hear about your shitty luck. Glad that you were able to get sorted and hope that come Monday morning they will get to the repairs straight away. Thanks to Dad and Warden for the willingness to come get you should you need. Hope you get fixed up at a fair cost!!
So sorry you had to go thru this mess. You are a great driver and enjoy comments. Hopefully you can get back on the road without too much $$ cost. .Best wishes to you and your family
My dad was a long-distance trucker back when I was a kid in the 1970's and 1980's. I so remember how it seemed as though every time a holiday or vacation was coming up, his truck would break down. We were okay with it, though. I don't remember us needing therapy or anything as adults, haha. I love watching your channel because it takes me back to my youth.
I deliver to that produce warehouse across from the tow yard quite often. Unfortunately I'm not this week. If I were I'd come give you a ride back home. Stay safe brother and good luck with the repairs.
Thank God for wives that get what we are feeling when our ride breaks down. Who are more upset because they know how we feel, and will do whatever it takes to get us home. And they know we are not going to be normal, till our baby (truck) is fixed. And for letting us do a profession, that we never have to grow up. 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Kurt, it aint over till it’s over … stay positive as a cool head will prevail knowing that your kenworth will be repaired and back on road … stay safe there
Sorry to hear of your break down, but at least you are safe and nobody was injured. Get rest, and I would suggest watching Ron Pratt from Midwest Truck in Missouri. He does towing and recovery of cars and trucks, you may learn even more.
Good thing your load is dry so you don't have to worry about reefer fuel running out. When it rains it pours. Worst part about tractor plus trailer tow is they usually have to disable drive line.
Oh man...I'm crying with you..feel the same with my truck. Thank God cross fingers haven't had to do it. Hate to tell you it goes in threes. Your hand now this..ofda. Take care.
When my dad drove. I was with him. In 88. Kinda the same thing. Not as bad. Bad. The bracket broke and took out the fan that took out a little bit of the radiator. We were in New Jersey. A little playing with the damage. We made it back to Omaha. To the company shop. I feel your pain.
Got you on the prayer list at Church here in Topeka Kansas Heritage Baptist Church for speedy fix up of First Class and that you can get back out on the road fairly soon Kurt
Joe from New Jersey!! Kurt tough break bud could have been worse but first class even looks good being towed!! Good luck Kurt hope you get up and running soon be careful!!❤
Really hated seeing this one bud! My stomach was noting up just watching you stay calm "on the outside". It's one of or the hardest truths of trucking, the brake down well away from home. I always drove as a hired driver so it wasn't my repair dime, but it's hard to swallow a break down that leaves you stranded! Thanks for showing the whole driving enchilada, not all of it is pleasant!
I am sorry that 1st class broke down. Thank goodness Opie isn't on this trip with you. Uber Dad & Warren have their hearts in the right place. Best of luck with everything. Stay safe. God's blessings today & always🙏🏻♥️
Kurt, that pretty much sucks. On the positive side the German was at home. Looks like you weren’t hauling a refrigerated load. Hope it gets repaired quickly.👍👍👍
I have a Thermoking APU I have had it since the truck was new. Approaching almost 2,000,000 miles would not be able to survive without it. good thing is the cooling system is tied into the truck but has shutoff valves for incidents like you are having now. one of the best investments I ever made.
In the words of Sgt Schultz: Veddy interesting. This a predicament never suffered in my not too long a career as a trucker. The closest I can get is while in PA 1972, after a cold night on leaving the truck stop the, the engine ceased running due to a frozen fuel filter. Darn it! Your situation is so much more serious and not to be envied. Lots of sympathy, remember, this to shall pass. I hope this unpleasent episode concludes with an outcome that lets you be a little bit happier. Have care, stay well, thankee for the video. While it lasted, I enjoyed the ride.
My uncle had the same thing happen. Well it put a 8 inch hole in the radiator. Went and got a bucket of quick Crete let it dry good, took off the fan, got some buckets of water and hit the road 8 hours home. Sadly happened twice on his t2000 within 3 years and roughly just as far did the same method twice and made it both times without a tow lol!
Back in the day when I owned my own truck, I had a 2200 Honda suitcase generator and a 7000Btu stand up A/C strapped into the passenger seat pointing back to the sleeper. On super hot days I couldn't get it below 85 in the sleeper but whenever the sun went down or it was 90 or less ambient temp, it kept the sleeper cool enough for my dog and me. The generator weighed 56 pounds and the A/C about the same but I got the full benefit of the 400 - 550 pound allowance for APU in various states. All the gasoline to run the generator was tax deductible as well.
Well I can feel your pain. Well it depends how bad the radiator is damaged? Exactly right a 5000 watt generator and a window air unit. The window air unit can be a 5ooo btu unit. Then you need a fan to push air back into the sleeper. It works very well and saves ideling your truck. The motel next to the truck stop probably rents rooms by the hour.
sorry you down man not a good feeling especially when you far out man its like we playing tag i just finished replacing fan and radiator yesterday only part i lucked out on i didn't had to get towed... but no The apu still works i just closed the two coolant lines off that tied into the truck coolant system and the apu runs as a stand alone without the truck and still gives you ac and electric.... i run a Green Apu... hope you back up running real soon 🙏
SCHIMDT. I know that you are about to have some 🤑💵☹️💰🤑 Bill. But it's beyond your control and not on your doing for this to happen. You don't abuse 1st Class you take care of her as much as possible. The most important thing is you are S-A-F-E and not hurt. Only hurt in the pockets. Again just glad you are safe 🚒🚛
The road is a very lonely place when things go sideways. For what it's worth, you did a very good job explaining things to your viewers. Those of us who have been in that situation were right there with you.
Little something to help soften the blow. Hope you get back trucking soon brother!
That was so nice of you.
Hello 👋 Kurt. Hope you get back on the road soon sir. Sometimes things happen for a reason but usually not when you’re trying to make progress.
Kurt be pimpin’! I am so sorry, Kurt! Been there! The US can be the loneliest place on earth sometimes. I hope they get to you soon, brother!
Sorry to hear about the bad luck, maybe you could work off room & board in the quality inn laundry room .Looks like you have some mean ironing skills, Good luck.
Scott, we thank you.
You can always kick back and watch Trucking with Schmidt videos…
+ Or maybe take advantage of the down time to start taking apart fan, shroud, radiator, hoses … eliminating the chance of any surprises later …
You're "Inner Pimp." omg the water I was drinking went all over the dash, thanks dork, lol
Get some sun on those snowman legs 😂
Man! That leg shot was epic!😂😂😂😂
I'm always impressed with Tow truck drivers. What a tough job. Hope they get paid well.

The joys of truckin. Keep the smiles alls one can do
Sorry for.the bad luck. Glad you are safe.
Can feel your pain .Hang in there Kurt
sorry for your troubles, hang in there Kurt
Well that sucks
New trucks, old trucks, middle-aged triucks...they all break.
Glad you were there instead of up in Chicago a little further like Harvey or somewhere. Keep safe and thanks for the video

Thank you for your story too. Kurt is good hearted trucker and TH-camr, for sure....
It's a blessing you didn't have the German with you Kurt, man it'd been a lot more do deal with. Hopefully you'll be otr asap. Good luck 🤞
Glad you were safe Kurt.
Hi. Sorry your having a run of bad luck. Wish you the best, hope they get the old truck fixed soon. Hang in there

I was just up there s days ago, you are correct about US-30.
The traffic is otherworldly.

I hate the breakdown for you. get it done and be safe on your travels
Bad luck comes in 3. First was your hand. Now the breakdown. One more . Be safe out there
Well at least it wasn’t the engine blowing up. Still not good hopefully back on the road soon.
SCHIMDT. I know that you are about to have some 🤑💵☹️💰🤑 Bill. But it's beyond your control and not on your doing for this to happen. You don't abuse 1st Class you take care of her as much as possible. Thats Y the tow Co. has all those nice shiny trucks in that Garage !
