I started playing fighting games casually about 3 years ago because I used to mainly play RPGs but started a job where I worked almost 70 hours a week. I didn’t have the time to put into an RPG and get any enjoyment out of. I grew up playing MK with some of my childhood friends. They were always way more into it than me. I’m high school I playing MK 9 quite a bit but not online or completely. I didn’t even know there was a competitive scene. 3 years ago when I was at that job I got the street fighter 30th anniversary collection and I loved third strike! Just the art style of it really drew me in. Alpha 3 did too but not like 3rd strike. I started doing research and watching videos and I’m still nothing more than extremely casual at all the fighting games I play but I really want to dedicate to getting to the next level. I don’t have a pc but I need to get on Fightcade and start getting my ass beat so I can finally learn!
This is a fun video, but let's be honest here, just because you're playing as a new character doesn't mean all the other 3rd Strike knowledge you've accrued over the years just suddenly vanish; you are literally always going to do better than a real 1st-time player today, I can tell without ever having played the game. I just recently got into SF6 as my first SF game and I love it but I've been really enjoying watching 3rd Strike and I've been thinking I might try to download FightCade and learn how to play in the near future (especially since it doesn't seem like we're gonna get any 3rd Strike characters in SF6 any time in the foreseeable future,) but I somehow doubt I'm going to do as well as you're doing in this video when I decide to do that.
The thing that makes learning a game fun, i feel i should mention, is if you can get whooped and still enjoy your matches. As a beginner, you _will_ get whooped, no matter how gard you research and/or try. If you can lose and still enjoy the process, you're home-free. Third strike checks that box for me. Parries especially make the game have more sauce that can make it fun to lose in a sort of "yeah man you deserve this win" way. Not a bad feeling to get styled on all the time, at least for me.
Do you remember/have you ever played an older game called Bloody Roar where your fighter could turn into an animal also? Think I played it on the GameCube, but that game had some pretty insane combo involving switching back and forth between human and animal.

B Rank in 3S is definitely a good rank. I would compare it to being a 1400/1500mr Master in SF6. I am a B rank in ST, but just getting started with 3S and I am a C rank there. I feel that the skill level of C ranks in 3S is quite good in terms of fundamentals. You find decent C players in 3S, but they are only decent by playing like it's SF2, once they fight people who are playing 3S in the unique way that 3S is played, they crumble.
Swivel's a real one for repping Q in my book. That Ibuki deserves props, they had you going. Speaking of going Both the Dudley and Akuma deserve to be in C rank like you ended up in (IK the Dudley is, but y'know)
With the Ibuki SA2 against urien: I main hugo, and I usually will take Gigas Breaker into Urien when he tries to do his Aegis corner setup. If you tech roll out of his setups, or are able to catch him in a grounded position, you can pretty much always wake up super with command grabs to get out of aegis. As soon Urien catches on, you have to start using it more sparingly lmao
Just hopped into 3rd strike for the first time ever and it quickly is becoming my favorite SF. May skip 6 because I’m enjoying it so much. Really wish Capcom would have adopted the old school, sprite-based, look for VI.
Most good Urien players i see and one of my friends who does play alot of charge chars ( UR,Q,Alex) he does Uriens lp fierball > super cancel Aegis reflector. It might be better for timing of the setup if its hard to parry fierball then mirror in 2 odd timings or if its esier to get the super while the special move is out and you get to buffer super before animations end.

Gonna love this series
FINALLY you play somebody I main. Urien Has timeless gameplay,i Can play urien in the middle of the night
Swivel's a real one for repping Q in my book. That Ibuki deserves props, they had you going. Speaking of going
Both the Dudley and Akuma deserve to be in C rank like you ended up in (IK the Dudley is, but y'know)
Love the idea!
The online edition must be rereleased on modern consoles asap. I can barely get a match on the 30th anniversary collection
And need to be crossplay to maintain alive the online
ggs JM, I'll see you around. I keep hovering from B to C
They have third strike at my laundromat lol
Soooo sick
im playing that game too 2024.. and i like it, one of my favorite
thanks for making this - SF3 is like a whole different ballgame for me.
6:38 going to try this. thank you.
I love jm 3s videos, we need more!!!!
With the Ibuki SA2 against urien:
I main hugo, and I usually will take Gigas Breaker into Urien when he tries to do his Aegis corner setup. If you tech roll out of his setups, or are able to catch him in a grounded position, you can pretty much always wake up super with command grabs to get out of aegis. As soon Urien catches on, you have to start using it more sparingly lmao
how you commentate your own matches is impressive
Pretty new to 3rd Strike (5 years), one of the super rare games where you can still have fun losing online.
This is something that us guys want to see more of
I already love this series. Hope you make it to B!
Hope this keeps going
This is why I love you jm
Just hopped into 3rd strike for the first time ever and it quickly is becoming my favorite SF. May skip 6 because I’m enjoying it so much. Really wish Capcom would have adopted the old school, sprite-based, look for VI.
You'll have to get over it, they did really well with 3d graphics and perfected it in 6. Sprites are becoming super costly, and it isn't everything.
Man I feel this comment. I smashed through the World tour mode of SF6 and all it did is ignite in me a deep desire to play 3rd Strike.
Great idea !
I am learning this on my mobile phone. Learning ken right now.
For the next video could you make your camera a little bit smaller so that the enemy bar is visible? I'm looking forward to this series
Just started playing this game is so fun
Most good Urien players i see and one of my friends who does play alot of charge chars ( UR,Q,Alex) he does Uriens lp fierball > super cancel Aegis reflector.
It might be better for timing of the setup if its hard to parry fierball then mirror in 2 odd timings or if its esier to get the super while the special move is out and you get to buffer super before animations end.
I'm not great at 3rd Strike, I'm in D Rank, but there a ton of people at my skill level to fight and the game feels so great to play
love brianf series and love this one too
Everyone needs a spreadsheet arc.
Considering how helpful people are in discord, it's totally possible.
which discord?
I say continue this series, I like "Unranked to X" style series and good luck on the climb.
Don’t give me hope, JM. Don’t make me pick up the arcade stick again and remind myself that I can’t parry to save my ass!
nice video waiting for part 2
I love these kinds of videos
Gotten back into SFIII:3rd Strike recently with Ibuki (thinking of checking out Alex).
A spreadsheet??? Oh hell yeah, sign me up!
