Nice tutorial buddy, but I have one advice maybe you're already aware about that option (When you was linking the puppet pins you could've temporary hid the layers you don't needed at that time by pressing the third icon from left on layers) e.g. Eye icon is first one and that round embossed icon is third one.

I did this exactly (and watched the updated video as well) and as I was linking the pins to tracking points the mask ended up way to the side of my face, what happened?
Also what if you want a dog face therefore not wanting the nose to be pulled in how can it be tracked to my mouth? Thank you

Hey. Try linking the purple iris to the pupils on the face tracker, then mask the iris layer out for each time you blink. The tracker should still work if you blink. But I'm not actually sure how well this will work, since I haven't tried this.

Yes, the new face/mask tracks to the person as they move their head. And if they turn slightly, it shouldn't be thrown off, either.

i dont have face tracker because i have ae cs6
you can draw the track points on your face with something nonpermanent and use the built in 2d tracker on each point and make a null object for each. Then parent each puppet pin to the corresponding null object. It's possible, but time consuming.

@@naveedaltaf there is none that I’m aware. there is 2d point tracking in cs6 so if you were to draw tracking marks on your face, you could manually track each point on your face. And then still link the puppet pins to those points. But that’s a pain in the butt

This is pretty good, but I do wish you'd re-record it so it doesn't get all muddled in the middle. You should've stopped the video while you explained what happened instead of talking over what you were doing without narrating each step. It's too bad 'cause this is a really interesting technique, but I don't see anyone else trying to explain it. Please re-record this.

Did you precompose the face you're trying to animate after scaling and repositioning it over your face?
Yeah, I did... I've read a bit about this problem and it seems to be caused by the video quality.

Motion capture is a term generally reserved for full-body performance capture, what you're doing is facial capture.
starting 4:09 u just did it so fast, no clue what u re doing there :) I am stuck thee, I literally do not know what to do there on my video. Impossible to figure out. After tracking it shows a multitude of points, why did u fast forward the most important part?
I’m surprised I haven’t gotten more comments calling that out. I agree, this video was confusing.
I’ll do my best to explain more in writing:
Each puppet pin should be pick-whipped to their corresponding tracked point. What I did was select a pin, see which pin gets highlighted on the fake face “mask” in the viewport, then pick-whip that pin position to the position of the face tracker. In the tutorial, I say to create the pins in the same order as I do, so that linking the pins to the tracking points can be done in the order after effects lists the tracking points. But it is not unlikely that many people add the puppet pins to the fake face “mask” layer in a different order than what they see in the video. And that’s fine, it’s just important to double check which pins are which. The face tracker labels each of its trackers, so compare the pins you’ve made to those and link. There are so many, but that is what I did. Again, not the best tutorial. I made a follow-up tutorial for this that may explain the process better(?).

Why when i link the puppet to the sign of the source, the mask go to hell? The point follow a bad way, i watch it so much times and i think that i did right :\ But i don't know if i should change something..
+Follow The Apple The "Mask" pre-comp should be the same size as the composition with the footage of your face. Hope this helps. If it doesn't work, or if you need clarification on something, let me know.
i try all, everytimes the point of tracking stay right, but when i link it with the puppets-pin, they go on the left-side, i have to move the tracking point one by one, maybe i got a bugged version of cc

I think its important to make this effect in your own way. Use any image you want- dont constrain yourself to the tutorial. Use the techniques to make something new :)

What he did was fine I think. You still get basically the same information you'd get if he was talking while recording at the same time. The info was more important.
so basically youd be better off doing it practical if you have no budget for visiual fx lol
Quick Steps :
1. Have visual of your face.
2. Face Track Motion on
3. Use the object/texture that you desire. Clown, Old Man, Woman, Alien, etc.
4. Make sure that once the face is fully tracked and following facial expressions;
5. There should be a Puppet-Warp-Manipulation to the object/texture itself which replicates the movements of the motion tracking.
6. Link the Puppet Tool with the Motions based upon the facial expression point and dots.
7. Color Correction obviously.
Now you can do it in 2 mins. I never watched the video nor did this method.

lol u mean u did some rudimentary tracking with an image of a navi while prjecting the video of ur eyes and mouth? bravo, this isnt facial motion capture and the result is terrible.
