    Can y'all stop 'playin the blame game here? Sure, she fell. No, she ain't at fault, nor is the horse. She just landed unfortunately. No reason to pin her down.

    The horse shouldn't ever be to blame for a riders mistake

      And you shouldn't blame the rider for falling from a horse. Are you really gonna come to her video, see her break her neck and nearly die and then BLAME her? Honestly, I wonder what the fuck is wrong with people.

      It can sometimes be the horses fault, or environment [ getting spooked , ect ]

    • @smellsbad2742
      @smellsbad2742 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lily Neuman she isnt blaming ether of them just saying people are blaming the horse when it's not their fault and yes it is the riders fault if right when she falls the horse stops it's her, of the horse keeps running it was the horse

      Okay towards the end you stopped making sense there. She said, "The horse shouldn't EVER be to blame for a riders mistake". It means what it means. Why are you acting like a translator for her

    Everyone critising, but guys this was 2010, and there's good chance she never walked again, so whats the point, she's probably replayed that day over and over in her head agonizing over what she should have done differently, it doesn't change it. Everyone makes mistakes, everyone has accidents of some sorts, bombarding her with blame is just awful. She didn't hurt anyone else, she got hurt doing what she loved, it's a risk anyone takes when they get on a horses back.

      xXSilverXSkyXx I'm not trying to be negative here and I don't know for sure, but most people die when they break their neck.

      no they don't.

      xXSilverXSkyXx I've always been told they do most of the time cause if the cord is severely injured and at or above the fifth cervical vertebra, then breathing may be effected and that they may die from asphyxiation, I didn't say they ALWAYS do, just a lot of the time

    • @EmergencyDrawings

    For those of you that think this is animal abuse. You are wrong. If you knew anything about horses you'd know that whips/crops used at certain times are an AID to give the horse extra incentive, because coaxing and cajoling sometimes just don't do it. Riding bare back gives you a closer relationship with your horse. Just look at what the Indians did, they also rode with a 'bit' in the horses mouth, bare back, and with just a piece of rope. Relying mainly on body cues for the horse to go where they wanting. Cues that a lot of times can't be seen! Unless you know EXACTLY what you are looking for. These cues are used in Dressage, and many other riding disciplines as well.

      YOU ARE TOO STUPID. THE INDIANS WERE NICE TO THE WHITE SETTLERS TOO, RIGHT?

    • @andreajones579
      @andreajones579 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Indians being nice to whites has exactly WHAT to do with the way they handled horses?

    • @hallerentz4588
      @hallerentz4588 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      barbwirepupp
      Settlers moved to the Americas out of the blue, forcibly taking land and wealth away from the Indians, all while spreading diseases which wiped out most of their population. Many of the remaining natives were forced into slavery or to convert to Christianity, being beaten or even killed for defiance. I think they had every right to treat the white settlers the way they did.
      Plus that has nothing to do with how they handled horses.

      Andrea, I do not know where you received your information about Indian horse training, but we were taught to ride bareback and holding the mane or a soft leather tied in a circle and around the horses neck, not in it's mouth. We never hit and used aggressive mannerisms toward the horse. We communicated through body shifts and bare feet against it's sides, applying gentle pressure. Yes, it is abuse to use spurs, whips, etc..

    I agree no matter what, you should ALWAYS wear a helmet even if you are just standing still. No matter how strong your trust is in the horse it doesn't mean he wouldn't spook at something that will then send him flying. I would ride in shorts there's nothing wrong with that but I would always wear my boots or some form of footwear

    I am disturbed by the many examples of missing safety equipment in this video, from shoes to pants to tack. No one ever deserves to be hurt; but IMO, jumping bareback is best left to professional exhibitors and horses. There are other, safer ways to connect with your horse. I hope that you are recovering quickly and the intent of this video was to promote safety in riding.

    A helmet isn't going to stop a broken neck. I'm not saying you shouldn't wear one, but get a hold of yourselves - Shit happens, horses are horses, humans are humans. It could happen anytime you get near a horse. A helmet and other protective precautions are great but you can never fully protect yourself. That's that.

    I've ridden all my life. I would not say I'm a great rider, just that I have a lot of experience with horses. It wasn't until I was in my 50s that I got hurt pretty bad, and it was really because I had ridden so long that I kind of lost sight of how dangerous riding is. I had a cowboy tell me once after that, "When you're on their back, you're kind of at their mercy," and that's when the light bulb went on. Horses let us ride them, and sometimes when they act like horses, we are not able to stay on. There's not a rider alive that hasn't been thrown off, and depending on where we land, how we land, and a handful of other circumstances we may end up injured, possibly severely. It comes with the territory, it's the risk you take.

      I check this video every few months and I feel the same way. Things happen we live with it and play the cards dealt to us. This girl is an amazing rider and like I said things happen. Three years ago I saw myself on a varsity team due to a knee injury that happened totally out of the blue I have now grown closer to my horses and focused more on riding than I did before. With every fall I gain a new perspective of where I went wrong, why I fell, and sometimes the horses point of view.

    If you're going to ride, you need to learn how to fall....because inevitably you WILL fall and knowing how to hit the ground will be the difference between life and death in some instances. Balance is key and it is apparent she lost hers and could not regain it.

      I have a question. I am a rider and haven't been told how to fall, how do you fall safely and correctly?

    • @jo-ky1we
      @jo-ky1we 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      TillTheEndx Well for one, you really shouldn't hold onto the reins when you fall, because it might hurt the horse or startle it, perhaps. And always try to fall butt-first, and if you can't, try to fall at least on your side. How to fall safely though? You may need to ask someone else, I'm bad at giving tips.

    • @garfieldchen2012
      @garfieldchen2012 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      What they always thaught us is to try not landing on your head, preferably on your side and if you do fall head first, we should protect our head by like 'wrapping' and arm around it... if you know what I mean. 😂 But sometimes I find it quite hard to remember this especially when you're falling unexpected or 'too quick

He would jump it beautifully, then rear up, when he heard his riders butt splash in the creek he would whinny, I swear that horse was laughin. He would do it to all the new riders, only once but once to everybody. Gentlest gelding you could find, AFTER he made u sit in the water!

    I don't understand all the people bashing this girls riding... I know of multiple TRAINERS that teach riders how to sit a two point jump WITHOUT a saddle... NO it isn't very safe, and you don't have the support from the saddle... but it teaches seat... This girl should have had a saddle yes... But she obviously trusted her horse and he just decided to get a little frisky. Possibly due to lack of saddle yes. but never the less she BROKE HER FUCKING NECK!!! Why are you saying she deserved it??? NOONE Deserves that!!! You who are bashing her or saying that this horse is "abused" are fucking stupid and need to learn some damn respect!

      I agree with you. Why are all these people bagging her, saying she was abusing her animal. It's nonsense! 😡 I hate it when people think they know everything about horses when they don't. No one does. She was riding, it was her choice how she wanted to ride, nobody else's. It's her horse, let her ride it however she wants. Jeez people, learn some damn respect! Accidents happen, it's a fact of life.

    To the person/people commenting on riding in shorts - I do it all the time in the summer; and ACTUALLY you have MORE traction in the saddle. How about us riders coming together and supporting each other? You may not all agree with her style but I bet most of you haters would not stay on her horse for 5 minutes bareback. How many of you ever had to recover your balance from a horse crow-hopping after a jump? It is not easy! even with stirrups. Sure, there are ways to fall to reduce possible injury, but who the hell has time to think of that in the split second you are nose-diving towards the ground?! Seriously! I hope in the future I see more support for fellow riders and less bashing. not just on this video but in others as well. To Malood: I hope you are recovering well; dont listen to the haters.

Each time I healed I got back on! Love them or leave them....I love them!! It wasn't my horse that got my leg broke but a month and a half later I was riding my mare with my right leg looking like it belonged to an elephant!! It didn't phase her one bit!

  • @GypsLover
    @GypsLover 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Most of the people commenting horrid comments most likely don't even own a horse of their own or have only read of them, never actually trained or ridden one. All riders must learn to release the reigns properly of course, even her. But with a horse like him as I can see is a very anxious excited horse it hard to give him all that room when you know he will take advantage of it. If you don't keep him busy he will take advantage of you. That is how my mare is she has anxiety issues and we have to focus on them more then anything. This young lady clearly loves and adores her horse, why else would she make this video?
    So negative comments need to cease. She did not make this video for people, who more then likely have ONLY read about horses telling her what to do.
    And if she had broken her neck (unclear of if she had or not) a helmet would of done NOTHING to save her. I do agree jumping high jumps you should wear a helmet or running at high speeds. But even with a helmet it doesn't always help. It's her decision if she choices whether or not to wear one. Not all of yours.
    Thank you.
    GREAT VIDEO BTW!!

      Unnecessary to start name calling. Sure horses can slip and throw someone off, kick someone, or buck them off. But that still results in not the horse's fault. Something had to have happened to have a horse act that way.
      If someone got kicked, that person did something wrong and got into a bad position. If you think about it, it's never the horse's fault.

    This is why I detest that method of holding split reins. Where you cross them over and hold them snuggly. When the horse stumbles, which they do sometimes even without jumping, that tight hold on the reins pulls you forward and you lose your balance. I know people who insist that this method is the correct one and I'm doing it wrong, but I've seen them fall off their horses a couple times this way.
    I use split reins but tie them at the end, then hold on to the knot with my strong hand, and loop it to the side and then hold on to both reins in each hand. If my horse stumbles, I simply let go of the close grip, keeping my balance, and I still have the knot in the strong hand so when the horse recovers, I can pull the knot back and get control of the loose loop of the reins again. The 4h rules in my county say that split reins should be held with one hand actually holding the reins (If that makes sense) and the other hand holding the excess rein. If split reins are used in english riding they want you to cross them.

    • @Starmystik
      @Starmystik 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't see that she has split reins; to me it just looks like regular English reins. The "tight hold" that you see is called contact, which is extremely common in jumping, but you can see that she releases over the jumps. In this situation, it would not matter if she had tied reins, split reins, loose reins, tight reins, NO reins . . . what ditched her off is the crow hopping. And since I have experienced it several times, you want tighter reins on a horse that tends to do that maneuver; ideally, you want to be able to keep his head up and preferably turn to the side when he does that. With longer reins, the horse just gets more oomph and power in his hop and sends you off faster.

    I trained my horse from the moment she was born. She learned to trust me because I was never abusive and she only received positive reinforcement. By the time she was old enough to carry my weight, I didn't even use a saddle or bridle. Even so, no matter how well trained a horse is, they are still unpredictable and you have to be ready for anything.

    hope you're okay, but seriously kid... you clearly do not respect your sport. Riding in shorts? Bareback with no helmet or SHOES? you probably earned your injury by making reckless choices. This is a dangerous sport and should be treated as such. Wear a helmet, proper footwear, and take a few lessons before putting that poor horse over fences. You have some learning to do.

    Had she used an English saddle with a grab strap installed she might have not fallen and not broken her neck....for some reason...women love to ride bareback....I think its sexual....but its dangerous....saddles have a purpose...like shoes....like seat belts etc.

    • @bayleedesroches8846
      @bayleedesroches8846 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I don't think it's just women who like to ride bareback.. That's a bit sexist. I believe that people ride bare back to give there horse a break from the saddle while still being able to stay on their regular riding routine. And also to feel more connected with the horse.

    • @phildavis4600
      @phildavis4600 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      Horses are accustom to saddles...the issue to most horses is a weight on their shoulders that a human provides....its not sexist...its real.Having a human on them and moving is work to a horse...if they are not ridden on a regular basis....they become sour and reject someone on their back.

    • @kasainyuu6461
      @kasainyuu6461 10 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      riding bareback.... for SEXUAL REASONS?
      .....
      No.... um... sorry no. I ride bareback because there is veterinary evidence that saddles cause injury to a horse's back. I also ride without a bit, because it causes pain to the horse.
      Horses shouldn't be artificially jumping, horse show is the real danger. It treats horses like products, like a football, like a sport. Horses should not be used in this way. The real problem is show jumping, training for shows, because the horse is trained through pain and abuse to "behave" ... this keeps them from truly connecting to the person on their back and understanding the person on their back can be hurt, or even CARING if the person on their back can be hurt. If you were constantly twisted and held back and strapped up and in pain, would you really give a shit if the person doing it to you fell down and died?
      People don't understand horses, and that's why accidents happen.
      My horse fully is aware of my physical state, and cares deeply for my physical safety, I don't force him to jump, I don't force him to hold his head up high, I don't force him to trot around. I treat him like an animal, I communicate with him and establish myself as not just his caregiver, but someone who he can trust his life to, someone who notices if he's hurting, someone who doesn't use him, instead we connect, when we go riding we both want to go riding, I don't go if he doesn't want to go. I am very careful to read his physical signs, how he's feeling, what he intends to do, I give him a chance to communicate with me and tell me if maybe today isn't a good day to ride him. I establish myself as his master, as the leader of our "herd" but in a way that results in him having deep respect for me IF ONLY because I care very deeply and am fully aware of his needs and feelings. He understands I am NOT a horse, I am different from him and he knows it, and that he must be gentle with me, just like I understand he is not just something I can slap and pull into doing whatever I want. If you take from the horse, you must always give back just as much.
      Having a connection with a horse changes everything, to earn a horse's gentleness, compassion and respect, you have to GIVE IT first. And strapping them up in painful, agonizing instruments and trotting them around like an object is NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!! the way to do that. It's putting a barrier between you and them, and when you do that you loose the ability to become one spirit and communicate pain/stress/warning to each other.
      I listen to my horse, and in turn he listens to me. And I would trust him with my life in any situation because I know he is fully aware that my body is smaller and weaker than his, just as he is aware that his mind is smaller and weaker then mine. We compliment each other, he's the brawn and I'm the brains. It's a partnership born out of respect and compassion, and it started with ME. I must take the step to understand the animal, to hear the simple things the animal is trying to say.
      That horse shouldn't be forced into jumping like that. If you could speak to that horse he would have begged to not jump, the horse knows that jumping like that is dangerous to the person, the horse probably would have never agreed to do it. It is the foolish arrogance of the human not hearing the voice of the very intelligent, powerful animal beneath them. Horses are emotional and spiritual creatures. If you don't listen to what they have to say you shouldn't go near them at all.
      So no, I don't ride bareback for sexual reasons at all, I ride bareback so I can feel the horse's emotions, I can let energy flow freely between us, so that I will KNOW if we should go a certain direction, if I should get off and walk next to him, I have deep respect for his emotions, horses speak through emotion and the saddles and the bits prevent them from doing this. Human beings need to stop being so arrogant, we need to humble ourselves and lean down onto the horse's psychological level so we can understand when and what they're intending to do. They are always giving us signals, they are always trying to communicate with us, but most people are too selfish and arrogant to listen.
      I am very careful of my horse's physical safety and comfort, and in turn he is astoundingly careful of mine. People are often shocked to learn that I don't use a saddle or a bit and I hardly ever have. You must befriend horses, they are not a mere object. They feel, they understand, they see, they know.
      The real danger is horse shows. It treats them like a sport, an object, it forces them to fit into human desire and this is what makes the dangerous. They are "unpredictable" only because we don't take the time to learn their language, so they can't properly warn us or tell us what they might do.
      My horse is always communicating with me, and I am always listening. I back off when he tells me he needs it, just like he would break his own legs just to protect me from falling or hurting myself. He's turned his head around and tried to hold me if he feels I might fall. He knows, I know him. We're one spirit, true friends.
      My horse is my best friend, and I can fully, completely and totally say that I am his. I give him respect and he returns it to me ten-fold.
      Saddles and bits are cruel, and all they do is give shallow people who refuse to listen to the animal's language a way to ride horses with a false sense of security.

    • @Starmystik
      @Starmystik 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @mica lille - Have you ever ridden in shorts? I do all the time in the summer. The skin on your legs actually give you more grip than any pants do. It has nothing to do with what happened to the girl in the video. I know from experience how hard it is to stay on a horse that starts crow hopping after a jump. Do you? Ever heard of Christopher Reeve? He had on full proper riding gear (including helmet, boots, breeches, AND a protective vest) when his paralyzing accident happened. It looks like the only "stupid thing" around here is the ignorance in your comment.

    yes horses can be trained to do almost everything. the horses at my barn respond to "ho" as a cue to slow their pace (though we rearly use it), they also know "good girl/boy", and they respond to physical aids to extend and collect/ speed up and slow down their pace (all orses do and usualy they are more usefull than reins). but that is not my point my poing is when you use your body, not your rein, to slow your horse you cant affors to wear shorts while riding.
