Ymir was an ordinary resident of a village that was invaded by King Fritz (the first king), he took their village and made them slaves... so Ymir is not Eldian, she remained his slave because that's all she knew how to be, she lived her whole life in favors (as Frieda said at the beginning of the episode: "She's always thinking about other people because she's so kind")

    - There is no time travel or time manipulation, and the Attack Titan doesn't need Royal Blood to use his power.
    - The inheritors of the Attack Titan can see the memories of their future inheritors. So Kruger could see the memories that Grisha and Eren wanted him to see, and Grisha was able to see the memories that Eren wanted him to see.
    - They were able to interact with Grisha because Zeke brought them both into Grisha's memory by using one of the Founding Titan's power. While they were visiting memories Eren was letting Grisha see his own memory of them visiting his memories, that's why Grisha was hearing Eren and seeing Zeke, he was seeing the future memories of Eren.
    - When Eren kissed Historia he saw his own future, through Grisha's memory of Eren's future memories, Eren saw himself give him that "pep-talk" in the cave.
It's more of a time-loop if you will... what came first, the chicken or the egg ?

    • @vincentvieille5996

Yes. But Eren need royal blood to send his memories in the past. That's why he is the only Attack Titan to use this power in all of 2000 years of History. We suppose he just manipulated all the Attack Titans from the past. And that was only possible because of Sieg show him Grisha's memories. Because he was in contact with royal blood. 1. When Grisha said: "We were led by our memories--all for this moment", he meant all the attack titans. All attack titans were seeing Eren's memories. Because Eren is the attack titan that managed to reach the coordinate. Through the coordinate, Eren's memories were sent to his predecessors. That's why Eren Krüger said the words 'If you want to save Mikasa, Armin and everyone else....", the exact dialogue that our Eren would later hear from Grisha. Eren Kruger saw Eren's memories. (Edit: That does not mean that attack titan's abilities are only unlocked after reaching the coordinate. It is just an explanation that when Grisha said all of us were led by our memories for this moment, it means that all the attack titans at least saw the memories of Eren. Yes the coordinate thing may have nothing to do with attack titan's speciality. I am just saying that Eren reaching the coordinate helped him using his ability to his advantage by enabling him to send memories at will and influence the past.)
    2. Why Grisha could see Eren and Zeke? Because Grisha himself being the attack titan could see the memories of future titan shifter (Eren). He was watching glimpses of future Eren's memories of the exact same scene. Which means in those memory glimpses, he saw things from Eren's POV. If you look at the scene where Grisha first time notices Zeke, his head was just lying on the table and he wasn't even looking there. But something made him realize suddenly that Zeke is in front of him. How? Because Grisha saw Zeke from Eren's POV who was standing just behind Grisha's back at that moment and looking towards Zeke. Same is the case with how Grisha could see Eren. Because he saw his own through Eren's POV. And realized that Eren is watching me from this position.
    3. The dialogues that Eren told Grisha in the chappel are almost the same ones that Eren Kruger told to Grisha. Both Erens asked Grisha to stand up and fight. Both said: "you keep moving forward..even in death even after death. This is the story that you started." At that time too, Grisha was hesitating to take action and Eren Kruger had to convince him to do what is necessary. And then it's ironic that they repeatedly show different shots of Grisha's right hand, the hand from which, he grabbed his sister's hand and took her outside the walls of internment zone before Grisha goes on to harm that very same hand to tranform.
    4. If you watch the ending of Season 2, you can see easter eggs pointing towards almost everything you saw in episode 21, including King Fritz forcing 3 daughters to eat Ymir's corpse. When that ending came out in 2016, this scene wasn't even revealed in the manga. So it was a huge foreshadowing.

      Yes... But also kinda no?
Realistically, she already disobeyed him by dying even though she could EASILY have stayed alive. At that point, there's no real loyalty or love there between them, and she knows that beyond a doubt. So, I think there is some kind of mystical property of sorts to the whole Royal Blood thing. THAT, or this is a real 8D Chess moment, and she understood after she died that for her to truly be free she needed to essentially become a slave to the royal bloodline once more.
There's also the fact that she's back to herself as a child within the Paths, so it could be that she herself didn't even remember the moment of her death at that point because the version of her within the Paths just hadn't lived to that point, and so she is reverted into the royal bloodline's slave.
There's a lot of potential explanations, and I feel like that was intentional.

Season 1 Episode 01: To You, in 2000 Years.
Season 4 episode 21: From You, 2000 Years Ago.
    Other beautiful details:
    1. 40:41 the number of fingers who blamed Ymir is 13 which is also the number of years a titan shifter can live.
    2. 41:33 when Ymir fell after running, flower shows 9 petals which is also the number of 9 Titan shifters.
    3. 47:23 the coordinate shows 3 paths at first to signify Maria, Rose, and Sina. After King Pritz commanded them to birth more subject of Ymir, 47:35 the paths increased in numbers.

Fun fact, in the first episode Eren has visions of the future and dismisses them as dreams. That episode is called "To you, in 2000 years". Episode 80, the second one in this video, is called "From you, 2000 years ago." Ymir has been a slave, spending countless eternities healing Eldians and forging titans by hand. One transformation is probably years for her, but everything happens in an instant for us. You could say that Ymir "created" Eren in order to save herself from her eternal slavery. Perhaps the Attack Titan was her way of overthrowing the Founding Titan who essentially has the power to command her to do whatever they wanted.

I believe Eren forged himself through the memories he sent to the other holders. By repeating "Fight" to the mirror he was influencing the decisions of the holders to end up to him in some sort of loop. However it is not that farfetch to believe that the essence of the Attack titan, with this ability to communicate to all his past version, was born from the desperate need of freedom Ymir wanted. I don't think she was aware of how thirsty for freedom she was until she disobeyed Fritz and let herself died.

Grisha said that all the Attackers saw this point - the Attacker took away the power of the Titan Founder. Ymir wanted love, recognition, therefore she continued to serve Fritz + she was 12 years old. I feel so sorry for her ... How amazing Eren is: He is the main character - the main Hero - Anti-hero - now he is an antagonist and villain for the whole world ... This work is amazing . Now Zeke's plan looks less and less evil. Yes, euthanasia is also murder, but calm, without blood, and just the end of Eldia's mug. The thing about Attack Titan's power is its holder can send its memories to a past Attack Titan holder. So the reason Grisha was able to see Zeke and Eren is because Zeke and Eren were looking at Grisha's memories, which means Eren was forming his own memories of that happening, which he could then send to Grisha in the past. Grisha did not see Zeke or Eren, but rather Grisha had memories of how Zeke and Eren were snooping through his actual memories.

20:13 at this moment, you've now discovered the atk titan's own special ability, each of the 9 titans can use multiple powers with some even being default for all like the heat generation from regenerating and even memory inherence, just that a titan specializing in a particular ability can take them to greater heights and for the atk titan who specializes in memory inherence it can even inherit memories of the future which is why the atk titan is known as the vanguard of the 9 titan, because it is ALWAYS. ONE. STEP. AHEAD
24:39 yes, grisha wasnt manipulating eren, it was eren manipulating grisha all along and most likely even owl the eldia restorationist spy FROM within marley's government too since he mentioned mikasa and armin's name
36:14 correct, eren maneuvered and navigated through some 4th dimension chess board here there manipulating the past from the future to steer the present to said future where he manipulates the past
46:30 ymir was never freed, she was enslaved both physically and mentally in an act of pillaging alongside the rest of the surviving members of her village and later scapegoated for an escaped pig, king fritz saying she is now free is his sardonic way of saying she can be hunted and killed as she is not his property anymore but during the hunt she ended up falling into a water hole inside a giant tree where she bonded with that shining centipede at the spine and ended up turning into the first titan
however she is still mentally enslaved by the king so she abided his orders even down to sacrificing herself to save him, its why the ymir we see in the path/coordinates is still a young child despite maturing and even birthing 3 daughters already... because deep down inside herself, she's still the same enslaved village girl as she started as years ago
yes king fritz did went and waged war with marley but no idea if marley is actually innocent and eldia instigated it or if they were already in a feud, not like it matters in the first place
people keep saying to not categorize things in to just good and evil because its a very hard to just label anything as stark black or white in the series like both marley's and eldian's interpretations of the titan's origins is whatever is convenient; to marley ymir made a contract with a devil for power so she can selfishly enslaved other races and uplift her own and then to the eldian restorationist she is believed to be a savior, a messiah figure elevating culture and progressing humanity forward but neither of these is fully accurate since yes, she did both fighing wars to enslaving other races AND cultivating the land along with building society but under orders of the eldian king because she was his slave
its just like what kenny said before he died; "we're all slaves to something"

Thank you! This was such a wholesome experience watching you react to this episodes .The "Curse of Ymir" was quite glossed over but it was actually explained here.
    (13) Thirteen years after acquiring the power of the Titans, Ymir was shown to have died while thwarting an assassination attempt on King Fritz, but after dying/losing consciousness, she found herself in a mysterious, barren land, where the Coordinate is. Back at the real world in real time, King Fritz then forced his daughters to eat their mother's(Ymir's) corpse in an attempt to preserve the power of the Titans. This is why Titan-shifters inevitably die after 13 years because Ymir "technically" died 13 years after acquiring Titan power. It is really a curse, a curse saying that "Since Ymir(The FIrst Titan) died 13 years after acquiring Titan power, so should you who seeks Titan power.
An explanation to why Ymir is NOT DEAD in the barren land where the Coordinate is, but Ymir is DEAD in the real world was because at the King's death bed, years after Ymir died in the real world, we could see that the Eldian King commanded his daughters to continuously reproduce, to have their children eat their spines upon their deaths and perpetuate this ritual from child to child so that Ymir's blood would not die out and Eldia could rule forever with its Titans.
Ymir's power was eventually divided into the Nine Titans; and she continued to serve her descendants from that barren land, building them Titans whenever they invoked the power of the Titans. Hence, Ymir has not "technically" dead since her consciousness is still on THAT barren land where the Coordinate is.

Eren's manipulation goes back much, MUCH further. Think, how did the Owl get the Attack Titan to give to Grisha? How did Eren KNOW he'd have it when he went to give it to Grisha? Eren must've manipulated the previous wielder to give it to the Owl when the time came. And how did he ensure the previous wielder had it by then? And so on, and so on to the first Attack Titan wielder. Eren literally must've used the Attack Titan's power to create all the circumstances leading to his birth and his eventual contact with Zeke. Every wielder guiding history through his manipulation with the knowledge of future events and the memories of previous wielders. He didn't just manipulate Zeke, or the Owl. After the first wielder was born, Eren would've had a hand in shaping all of history, including the fall of Wall Maria and every event in the story up to this point. Eren literally wrote all of Attack on Titan, every character death, he likely had some hand in causing. Now, I haven't read the manga, and this is only using information from these 2 episodes and all the episodes prior (nothing from future episodes), so someone more familiar with future events might theoretically correct me, but don't because spoilers, but when you do a re-watch, on here or in your own time, remember this.
More than the Armored and Colossal reveal, more than Erwin's charge and the following choice, more than any action scene or plot twist in the story, THESE are the episodes I've been waiting for you to get to. This is where the questions are answered, where all the "what's happening" questions make sense. These are my favorite episodes in the series, both on the merits of their quality, and for the sheer mind boggling implications of it all. Isayama KNEW. Rewatch episode 1, he FUCKING KNEW, all the way back in 2013. That bit, where Eren and Grisha are staring into each other's eyes in his memories? That was there from the beginning. I wrote that comment for another reaction channel to explain what happened here. I share this with you: trust me, this is worth reading and ofc, without spoilers (also, there will not be any other explanation in the following episodes up until the end so...).
Two thousand years ago, the titans were born from the powers of Ymir and in the previous episode, Zeke told us that she is a slave of the royal family for unknown reasons (at least for now). In this episode, Grisha tells us that the attack titan was created to fight the king's self-righteousness and that Frieda (the royal family) was unaware of it. In other words, Ymir would have created the attack titan behind the back of the royal family.
We know that each primordial can see the memories of its predecessors (Porco seeing Marcel's memories or Armin with Bertholdt). But, in this episode, we learned that the attack titan has the power to read the memories of its future holders. This power, only Eren discovered it... When? How?. The response is simple: by mistake. When Eren kissed Historia's hand, he saw his father killing the royal family but he also saw his father chatting with Zeke and his future self.
The power of the attack titan is not to see the future directly but simply to observe the memories of the next holder if this one accepts it. For example, at the end of the episode, Grisha does not see Zeke, he sees himself, facing Zeke, from Eren's point of view. You can see Eren as a camera where he can choose, whenever he wants, to share his current vision to his predecessors. Then, to "know" the future, he has to share his vision to the predecessors and then see in Grisha's memories what's going to happen.
There can only be one future (obviously). So when Eren decided to share his memories, he writes history, and the future cannot change anymore, otherwise his memories could not be transmitted to others and history would change. It's fate.
When Eren shows his memories, he transmits them to all his predecessors simultaneously. Now you know why Eren was saying "TATAKAE" in front of the mirror: he was actually sharing his memories and using the mirror so that his predecessors can see him.
Try to imagine: the first person gets the attack titan two thousand years ago and sees Eren telling him "fight, if you don't fight, you can't win". Apart from this person, all those who inherited this titan thought they were seeing the memories of the first owner, when in fact, they were seeing the memories of the last owner of this titan.
Exactly, Eren must be the last attack titan, because if there is a new one, he could share is memories to change history and that is not possible.
To be precise, Grisha was also aware of the impact of the future on his time. When Eren shared his memories, by "mistake", he revealed the presence of Zeke. From this moment, Grisha start understanding the power of the attack titan.
Another thing: Now, we know why Eren Kruger said "To save Mikasa, Armin, and everyone else, you must see it through.". In fact, everyone who had the attack titan knew they had to save Mikasa and Armin, but they didn't know it was future memories.
-------> To be clear: the moment the attack titan was created by Ymir, the whole story was written and could not be changed. To understand how the story is written, you have to admit that the story is written from the end.
Okay, so Eren wants freedom for him and his friends. When he thinks he got that freedom, he shares his memories and the past can't change. In fact: two thousand years of history has been written at that exact moment. Inevitably, we are going to the future that Eren saw, and no one can change a thing.
If for example, Eren wanted to be a pizza maker (yeah...), the attack titan goal would not be to fight the king's self-righteousness with freedom, but with pizza and the history would have been different. That's because Eren wants freedom that every holder of the attack titan wanted freedom as well.
Eren Kruger told us on the wall that Grisha was "chosen" to have the attack titan. In fact, this titan is transmitted each time to someone revolutionary. Indeed, if someone revolutionary has the attack titan, he will want to bequeath it to someone who shares his revolutionary ideas and that's how the titan has travelled through history to "fight" the royal line.
It's funny to see that Zeke thought that Eren was being manipulated by his father, when we learn that Eren was manipulating two thousand years of history ^^.
The story is actually a loop:
Grisha steals the founding titan -> Grisha gives both titans to Eren -> Eren can attack Marley -> The can "kidnap" Zeke -> they can "touch" each other -> they can travel in Grisha's memory -> Eren can "contact" Grisha through memories and tell him to steal the founding titan -> ... (loop)
This is the ultimate paradox of Attack on Titan. You can't find a beginning to the story except from the end.
    Another paradox:
Eren ordered Grisha to spare Rod Reiss -> So he's going to look for his daughter (Historia) -> he will get killed by her -> She will become the new Queen of Eldia -> Eren will kiss her hand for the presentation of survey corps medals -> So he can look at his father's memories and see himself ordering to Grisha to spare Rod Reiss -> ... (loop)
    Here is my last point:
When Zeke wanted to use his scream, Eren said "Wait!". At first sight, we can think that Eren hesitates and does not want to lose the people dear to him (Pixis for example). It's not that at all. Eren tells him to wait a second, so that Falco, his brother (Colt) and Gabi can arrive and do their dialogue. Once Zeke uses his scream, he orders Falco to "defend" Eren. That's what allows Eren's run. Also, without that little second, Gabi wouldn't be there and couldn't shoot Eren.
Since Eren kissed Historia's hand, there are many details like that and I encourage you all to watch SNK again to find out more.
Thanks you for reading this, it is always with great pleasure that I like to discuss this masterpiece that is SNK.

the attack titan's power is to se memories of other "users" however this ability shows random memories, they can be from the first to the last users. For eren to see all the memories of all the users he needed to be in contact with royal blood (he not only saw his future but also all those 2000 years since the first one. this means eren has "been in war" for 2000 years). For him to show his father some memories he needed to be in the cordinate and with acces to royal blood. also when grisha was talking to eren and zeke he couldnt see them, all the interaction was eren seen the scene, and then grisha seing the memory of the scene.
Fun fact, chapter one was called "to you, 2000 years ago" and chapter 80 (the one you just seen) from you, in 2000 years. THAT IS FORSHADOWING

It can be hard to understand how Eren influenced his father. Grisha was receiving Eren's memories live, and was basically seeing himself in third person while hearing Eren's voice. That's only possible bc they're revisiting memories with the Founding's power. And also, Grisha can only "see" Zeke when he's in Eren's POV. They can't physically touch tho, he hugged the air

1.) 13 fingers point to Ymir to condemn her, and 13 years is the lifespan of a Great Titan.
2.) Ymir's blood fell on a flower with 9 petals, and her power was split among 9 Great Titans.
3.) The tree she saw represented Yggdrasil of Nordic mythology, and the water she fell into represented Urðarbrunnr, or the Well of Fate at the base of Yggdrasil. The 3 Norns (Nordic goddesses of fate, possibly represented by Ymir's 3 daughters?) used water from the well to make mud and coated Yggdrasil's roots to help it grow. Ymir uses water to make mud to create titans at the base of the "tree" of Paths, thereby helping expand/grow it. This "tree" of Paths connects all of the subjects of Ymir just as the World Tree Yggdrasil connects all of the worlds.
4.) Ymir built bridges, roads, and fields (like the Restorationists believed) and also waged war on Marley (just as they believed). Everyone was right and wrong.
5.) Ymir didn't heal because she lost the will to live just like how Reiner didn't heal at the beginning of the season when Eren attacked Liberia.

If you notice, each time Grisha notices Zeke, it's when Eren is looking at Zeke from behind Grisha, since they're both the Attack Titan and can see into their future memories
23:24 However, Eren cannot really see his future, for spoiler reasons :3

Another information in these 2 episodes you might have not processed yet (and that's normal it's a lot to process!) is the reason why Grisha was able to see Zeke. It's simply because Eren was sending the memories of these precised moments in live so that Zeke and Grisha could interact. That's also why episode 21 showed you again the scene between Grisha and Zeke when Grisha is sorry to have been a bad father to Zeke. It's because in this scene you see Eren watching Zeke. If he would have not done it, Grisha could have not been able to see Zeke in that moment. You got the point? Tell me if it's not clear

Ymir was put into slavery by King fritz. But since Ymir has known slavery her own life, she didn't even think about saving herself using the power. She wanted connection and she saw that in King fritz in a twisted way. Since the king acknowledged her, she felt that it was the connection she wanted.

the way eren stares at mikasa telling him the scarf he gave her is warm in his memories is so heartbreaking to me. he cares so much for his friends and her, and all he has to show for it is mikasa wholly believing he hates her and having injured armin in their fight. it's so sad to see how their friendship has fallen apart, even more so since we're starting to see eren's side of things and how it's all gotten to this point.

  • @FabiTheSnake

it´s amazing how eren is such a good protagonist, and antagonist at the same time.
The show really just shows how possibly everyone just is wrong at the end, the only thing that matters is which one you think makes it right.
For ymir´s story, It is hard to say why exactly she acted the way she did,
Most would say it was stockholm syndrom, being a kid which has always been acting on other peoples wishes,
her gaining her powers could be pure coincidence, the plan of whatever the core of titan powers really is,
Either way, i think her whole story was about how there was no humanity, without anyones eyes showing, being more animalistic,
as it was in early times, eating things was considered to also transfer strength and life,
it was more of a last hope for the first king, (also he was the king of eldia, essentially showing that marley while cruel, weren´t always full of shit)
Anyways, great reaction, i´m hyped for the next episodes

The whole point of episode 21 was to show that Ymir, who some think it was a Goddess and others thought of her as an Devil, was just a girl, made a slave for her whole life, and beyond.
She never knew love and nothing else but slavery, that's why the king Fritz said that ''she was free'' an ironically way to release her to be hunted and dead, but she returned even after receiving a power that could change the whole world, because she never had her own volition.
All the stories said by Marleyans and Restourationist Eldians are true, she both made Eldia greater, and slaughered Marleyans, but nothing from her own will. The point in this is to show that her whole existence was cursed, by the Eldians, a King who used her, and even after her death, he made their daughters continuosly pass this power (the one power that was split in 3 after Ymir's death, and this one power was still divided, generation after generation untill it becomes the undivisible number 9, each one of this ''shards'' with one of the original titan's powers and characteristics) but the ones who did this to Ymir wasn't the Marleyans, but the Eldians and the royal blood, that she served for 2000 years, waiting for someone to release her.
Both Eldians and Marleyans cursed each other in this war that began even before the titan's existence, both are equally wrong, and the message of the story is this cicle of hatred, wich is still 2000 years after.

45:56 yes it was king Fritz , he was hunting her like it's some sort of game and started using her after she gained power
Even tho she has that much power , she doesn't have a will of her own , she is just a slave that does everything the king says , she was so broken that the idea of killing the king didn't even occur to her

    • @Errenyaegerrr
      @Errenyaegerrr ปีที่แล้ว

Actually, as we see by eren getting through to her, she was just for whatever insane reason, willfully his slave, then again as comments have pointed out theres hints and such that she just wanted love, and the closest she gets to that is king fritz.

  • @vanpisram
    @vanpisram ปีที่แล้ว +3

"This is a story that you started" is a callback to the scene between Eren Kruger and Grisha. Eren doesn't manipulate the past, there is only one timeline (the events we see here is what occured in the past).
Zeke bringing him in the memories of the past is what allows Eren to show his father (through the Attack Titan's powers) his memory of that exact moment. At the moment Grisha sees Zeke and Eren he doesn't see them with his own eyes, he sees them through Eren's eyes. Which is brilliant.
So technically, there is no time travel

In Ymir's flashback you can see that something happens, and then Fritz asks "who did this thing? If no one confeses you all will lose one eye". Then everyone points to Ymir. He "frees" her from being his slave, and his soldiers chase her. Then she enters that big tree before getting murdered and gets the power of titans, so Fritz forgives her as long as she works to grow the Eldian Empire. Finally she sacrifices herself for king Fritz and their daughters (Ymir's and his) eat her to get the power of the titans and pass them on to future generations
