Great sounding engine. The 327 Chevrolet engine is Awesome . The first engine I built was a 327 , when I was 19 years old , with the help of my neighbor mechanic. The engine went into my 1968 Nova . That was 35 years ago. I'm in the process of building another 327 from a 1966 Chevelle. I'm going with either 10:1 flattops or 11:1 pistons , big cam , solid lifters and some other goodies. The 327 engine is my favorite engine.
That's one sweet sounding 327 you have there. There are so many ways to go when you modify these motors. In 1968 I too had a 57 2 door hardtop Chevy I was proud of. Original 283 four barrel was the thing that got me from stop light to stop light in those days. I found a 327 300 horse motor from a wrecked 67 Super Sport and bought it for $250. Back then I had more money than sense and decided to let the local Chevy parts manager order my factory parts for me to rebuild it. You would be amazed how cheaply this way was over aftermarket parts. I had the pistons and rods from the 302 motor....11 to 1 dome top and the wild off road type Z 28 cam that had a very rough idle. Solid lifters , factory aluminum intake and an 800 Holley. Hedman headers ran to a set of homemade exhaust pipes fashioned from old 3 1/2" wide driveshafts. I ran cutouts for the strip runs. I cut 3 seconds off my quarter mile times at the local dragstrip after making the swap from the 283. I still have that 283 in an old shed wrapped in a tarp. Bet it's worth a small fortune now since it was running fine when I took it out. No-it's not for sale guys. Back then our idea of a good time was cruising the main street of our town on Sat and Sunday evenings. My 57 won it's share of stop light races and always turned heads. Hardee's still had the Big Mac with sauce for $1.00 or you could go to McDonalds and get 6 of their thin ass cheeseburgers for the same price. You could fill a 22 gallon gas tank for about $2.25. The gas was pumped for you, your windshield cleaned and all your underhood fluids checked by a friendly attendant working for $1.50 an hour. Those were the good ol days for sure!!
I love the old school engines that being said everyone is going to the LS engine conversion. More HP and more toque. My LS1 and LS3 are just beasts. I do love these old engines and actually have a set of 202 camel hump heads and I have a 400 small block 4 bolt main engine with steal crank. I just can’t let these go because they are a piece of Chevrolet history.
tlt40s&w 70 these old school motors are way more fun I have a new Silverado with the 6.2 and exhaust and all that but there’s nothing like these old engines
That's what is so great. All the newbies want LS motors so now you can pick up a SBC for chump change while the kids are trying to pull the 4.8 out of mom's van.
Put a comparable 200cc head on a first gen small block and N/A there is no difference in my opinion.. Smallest head for an ls has 200cc intake runners.
Sounds great! I know from personal experience it sounds a lot better in person, too. That's almost exactly how we built the 327 in my old El Camino in high school, I miss it.
Throttle response baby and yeah this video is great but it’s no justice like standing in the garage with it and super nice 57 love the old original hot rods!
Doesn't sound any different than a large journal 327! It revs quickly and idles rough because of the super light flex plate. When it's installed in a car with the heavy torque converter bolted up (or a manual trans flywheel and pressure plate) the idle will smooth out and it won;t rev so quick.
@@Cougracer67 Exactly!!! I see so many people commenting on these you tube engines revving so fast and quick throttle response etc. THERE IS NO ROTATING MASS PEOPLE!!! Not saying they don't sound good but with no Converter, Alt, P/S, Fan etc they are going too.
My mate had a Holden Monaro 327 Bathurst and I had a HQ 350 Monaro cammed big carb but his 327 was a freak motor, nothing in the neighborhood could touch it. I've always wanted to get a 327 because it sounded awesome, went like stink and revved like a 4 cylinder. I wish I'd seen this before I bought my fucking boat a year ago
now you just let the old secret out, and I tell folks my old 327 would chew up BB's, and they start calling bad names, but they just don't have the mental capacity to understand honest facts when they're told them..
@@timothymilam732 i had one in a 72 el camino. AFR heads, crower crank, Carillo rods, solid roller cam. It ran like a scalded ass rabbit. It would rev to the moon and pull like a Clydesdale from 3,000 to 6500 rpm.
That 406 cub that the lick! I built ap stroker 383 /w 450hp old school but with holley sniper EFI love it I my scòut2 35" tires 456 chevy 1tòn running gear. Bad ass )! But change to 33" and an 406 stroker coming up soon!
The 327 small journal was all the rave from about 66 thru the late 90's. These motors had the right combination of bore & stroke with the 462 heads. I beat up alot of big block cars with these lil screamers. Great motor to hot rod around with. High RPM screamers. Z/28 302. & 327 Sm. JL were the funnist to drive around with. If you wanted brut strength you went with a 427 454 tire shreaders. Good video. Flashback
It sure is nice you can rev the engine like that and your neighbors don't complain. I live out in the country with a neighbor far away who complains and complains when i rev my engine.
Sounds great. I am building a very similar engine now. Less cam 218 at 459” but dart ss iron eagle 165cc heads with 1.6 stainless rockers and 30 over. I am hoping for around 325 hp. Numbers matching motor for my 67 Camaro coupe. Sure hope it sounds somewhat close to this.
Hey Everyone. I have been beatin' on a .60 over small journal 327 that came im my 69 nova ss (clone) when I bought it 30 years ago! Great engine.. This one has always had Trw forged (mild pop up) pistons and balanced bottom end .with of course the forged steel crank . I run it hard with an old 4-speed and 12 bolt 4.56 s. . On a shoestring budget my best 1/4 mile is 12.88 @ 106 mph
Would like to hear all four barrels opened up to hear it transition, I'm sure it does fine, that's a vary responsive engine combination. Good build I'd say.
Those valve covers though ... I have a set of these on my '67 El Camino as well. It has the TFS Twisted Wedge G1 heads on it, and these are the only covers that clear the valve train.
Got one out in the shed. Pulled it from a rusty 68 shovel. It had a factory 4-speed, no console, manual everything . Not sure if the engine has correct heads and intake. It has a square bore cast iron intake with 2.02 straight plug fuelies. Unfortunately, I had the engine rebuilt and they tossed the old cam. That may have given me a clue. It's definitely a small journal 327.
Hi, what number block do I need. Also all the goodies I need to clone your 327 engine. Dam I love there sound, you can always tell a 327 from its unique sound...

Old-school Chevy thunder music to my ears
Perfect sound I had a high comp. 327 in high school. Didn't know what I had, what a gem of an engine.
Great sounding engine.

I know I'm watching this at a later date ,but she sounds good and revs great !!
Beautiful work sir, I hope to be you when I'm older 🧡
Sounds awesome. I love the 327's. My 63 Impala has a 327 thing sounds sweet

Wow that 327 does sound good.

Such a simple motor meat and potatos. Love it!!!
Most people dont know how wicked those 327s can be.
Some would run circles around big blocks
now you just let the old secret out, and I tell folks my old 327 would chew up BB's, and they start calling bad names, but they just don't have the mental capacity to understand honest facts when they're told them..

Love ol 327's. 👍🤠👍
Grumpy Jenkins Blew away some 426 Hemi's with the 327 back in the day, despite giving up 99 cubic inches RIP Grump.

Great job Eagle Al. Sounds wicked!!!😎

Good old video I'm a big fan of the 327. If I can't get one I go 396.
Sounds just like mine , it moves my 55 hardtop very well , 4 speed with 9" 3.70 gear

What size tires are you running on the rear of the 57 ?
28x9x15 or 275x60x15 watch my other video's I have one of the 57 at the track
True that LS is stronger, but they do not have that top note, which is where the fun is.
It might say if I look hard but what cam is in this motor. And what are you asking? Thanks Chuck
Sounds great. I doubt those headers would fit my 66 Chevelle.

What cam did you use and part number mate
Would love to know part number on this cam
Great engine for my PACER
Hi Al, great sound and look. Let me know if you still have it or another 327 like it as I’m looking. Thanks, Tim
HA! - They always sound mean as hell with no flywheel mass on 'em!! Heeheeheehee!!
Sounds amazing, what cam is in it? are those tall valve covers?
327 sounds awesome.
love the rumble of that one.
