I am proud of you. I found out 40yr ago to eliminate tails on my gill poppers. Hackle only. A short tail of soft rabbit fur is ok but not needed. I believe the tail interferes with the take of a percentage of the takes. I am proud of you. Every body thinks the busier the fly the better. Absolutely wrong in my opinion. KISS

That cupped face may mak more noise than u bargained for. I used to cup some of the faces also but no longer. I hsve caught a lot of gills on these poppers. Kuddos
Yes! I have such a hard time finding quality poppers that are under a size 10! It's ridiculous, bluegill peck and test things more often than they come up for a true rise. You want that peck to pretty much engulf the popper. You can really tell these sellers are catching fisherman not fish. I wonder if it wouldn't be worth it to give some good thread wraps around the whole head as well and just paint over it. The head is always the first thing to fail for me when they're really abusing it.
This has me dreaming of shore casting at my favorite blue gill spot this summer. Can’t wait.

I can't find these hooks in the smaller sizes! What would be a good substitute hook for these popers? Barbless ok but not mandatory.

Actually i have switched to craft foam spiders. 3 min to tie, more durable and just as effective imo. Tight lines
