You should have another green strip on the inside (or better yet mount them so that you can see from both sides. It would be awesome to be able to see the whole 3D globe.

does the whole base with the chips and stuff on it spin too? cause I wanted to make a similar project, maybe a little smaller (16 LEDs max), but I want to be able to edit the picture/animation on the go, so I also need a connection and presumably the "processing unit" to be outside of the spinning ring. wires would twist and break in less than a second. are commutators a good idea?

Regardless of if you intended, I like how you put the red LEDs on a higher plane than the green LEDs. It provides a cool 3D effect. Very cool!

If you put it under glass or sth. it'll be safe and if you add a vacuum it might run even better. Great work!
