HI guys i,m 65 years old and i,m stocking up on lead pellets there is no way i,m using non lead pellets .This test shows what we all know there is no substitute for lead thats why we have used it for hundreds of years because its the best .
I think some of the non-plated variety of lead free pellets have a place, their performance is on par with regular lead. However from an economical standpoint, they’re useless unless the price goes way down on the lead free ones
Hi Richard, get it shared around mate, ive plans for a series on just how dangerous the lead free alternatives are currently. The manufacturers are between a rock and a hard place right now too so I don't hold them to blame for the pellets. We as a community need to be more vocal about it 😉
@@tillysgunstocks I wouldn't put it past the Government to introduce the lead ban and then reduce the legal power limit to 7,5 joule due to unpredictable diabolos flying around in all directions. Be prepared and stock up your lead before it's too late.
nice one .. Our club did a lot of the lead free testing that BASC used in their response to the UK Gov Consultation .. pretty terrible consistency at 30yds, some makes so bad we did not even push those out to 55 yard testing
Hiya, I'm trying to devise a test to monitor how they ricochet and how Inhumane they are in pest control situations too. I've a bunch more lead free pellets, not just gamo. It's not a pop at gamo, they have to be looking at the alternatives for future business. But the whole idea is flawed from the start with lead free.
Thanks for the video. I think the airgun community needs to be more vocal about the issues of lead-free pellets. Until a safe to use viable alternative is found we would be mad to silently accept a ban on lead pellets. I certainly don't wis to see them ricochet back at my kid.
Hi Ken, get it shared and hopefully in time I can do some meaningful testing to show just how naughty the lead free stuff can be when it's coming back at you. I should make it clear I don't blame the manufacturers for their offerings, they are between a rock and a hard place tbh.
Just an FYI, to see how far a pellet will penetrate, used stacked old magazines soaked in water Usually a 10 stack will stop almost every pellet up to heavy 357 slugs
I've used the gold pellets.. they def break the sound barrier. If you have the right fire arm. They make a "crack" noise as they travel for the target. That's the super sonic in them.. get a gamo pellet gun . They're cheaper than the one you have.
I'm not sure, but possibly if the ply was glued together to make it solid, or alternatively use the standard thicknesses of 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 (or metric equivalents), then penetration may be a little more. The tape is allowing movement of the ply. Because you can clearly see the blown/burst fibres on the backs of the first and second sheets, the sheets are separating and energy is lost/ absorbed. Think "chopping firewood on a bed!"
_So if I melt them I should be able to get 25% of gold to sell for profit 25years from now to buy a lead pellet tin?_ *[15$cad/100 pellets is not happening for me!]*
Solid gold might actually be a good alternative with great weight and softness shame alchemy is so hard. When you get the ballistic gel definitely put some polymag shorts into it S200 shoots them very well to 40m certainly work on pests. Also H&N hunter extremes not used them in anger yet but worked well on paper.
Gamo really needs to up the quality control if they want this pellet to be a success. The varying diameters makes it impossible to get consistent friction in the barrel, thus changing the velocity and impact point. The hardness of the pellet is also a concern: wear on the barrel and ricochet potential. The wear on the barrel can be reduced by using a softer material on the exterior while retaining a harder interior (like a non discarding sabot). Ricochet will remain an issue on flat plates that are face on to the shooter, though angling the plate down so the pellet goes into the ground would alleviate that. Non lead pellets have a way to go before they achieve the properties that lead pellets have. Lead is harmful to the environment and there will be a time where it's use in banned for outdoor use IF there are no improvements to their current design. Would it be possible to make lead pellets with polymer coatings that are tough enough to mimic lead in rifling without tearing through as it travels down the barrel?
Maybe some of the gas ram rifles do make more power, often springers will with a lighter pellet but im not sure wether these would be too light. They definitely run through faster though. Tbh gamo and all the manufacturers are between a rock and a hard place, atleast they are trying to find something lead free I guess.
Morning TGS, quality informative review as usual, good to know not to put the Goldies through my barrels, seems odd to see a gold jacketed pellet, it's high time the manufacturers had a word with a professor in metallurgy ? Best Regards, Jon, HETV👍
General reports on these Gamo Gimmix a few years back, were they were pretty crap, designed for folks who buy with their eyes, just out of interest are there any pellet brands out there made from tin?
I'm not sure on the makeup of these pellets, I dont know enough about metals to be able to offer any advice in that respect. They are a bit of a gimmick granted, but the pellet manufacturers are all between a rock and a hard place realy so I don't hold it against them. Hopefully in time they will get better and less flipping lethal coming back at us. As a community we all need to make the powers that be, more aware of the realities of these silly ideas.
@@tillysgunstocks The thing that would worry me, would be barrel ware, with long term use of harder but lighter metals. Why I mentioned Tin is very similar to lead but a tadge lighter and non toxic. Maybe the .20 calibre might work better with less non toxic pellets as you could increase the weight of the pellet to suit .20 barrels.
oh god no . not to accurate possible barrel wrecker and very good chance of one back in the eye . don’t think the 25 metre bench rest folk will be rushing out out to buy these . do look pretty cool though 👍
@@tillysgunstocks No - there is also, commercially available, 12 and 24 carat. The numbers refer to "purity" of the "precious" metals and stones (diamonds etc.).
Ok guys. I tested this a long time ago, back when these hit the market. My personal and professional recommendation is...do NOT use these in your best-$$$ barrels, especially in choked barrels like the Lothar Walther choked series used on Air force made guns and some of the better Russian & CZ choked barrels. Reason, you may ask? They electroplated. Ok. So what, you may ask? Well, that means they're obviously of an amalgamation of some polymer/plastic combined with ferrous/iron particulation content. Something that carries the current for the process. Now, I don't assume to know the particulars of the process...but, I'm didn't exactly fall off the bus yesterday and what I did find years ago was that A NAGNET WILL PICK THEM UP! So, there's iron in there somewhere guys, likely throughout ... this allowing a somewhat uniform electroplating process over the surface. All I can tell you for certain is, a magnet eillmpick 'em up and I got one find no peace of mind in the thought of possibly eroding my barrels out or rounding off the lands, or potentially eliminating much of the choke near the muzzle on choked units. They sound cool breaking the sound barrier as easily as they do so, if ya just gotta shoot 'em from time to time I'd stick to doing so from a cheap chinese magnum springer or the like. Try the JSB Predator GTO's instead. Pretty hard pellet still, but they're not magnetic so obviously there's a different prices of manufacturer used there. You can see the difference in the surface uniformity. The GTO's, for lack of a better way to put it, appear almost CNC machines they're so uniform in appearance. That's likely what they're WAY WAY more accurate. I just wish the Predator GTO wasn't so costly to shoot! Good video man. Nicely presented. Thank you.
I have a game, if I fast forward, or reverse, and the bit I land on has Tilly not talking, I win.
Havent won yet.
Pmsl! Pinned that comment.. yep I do seem to waffle on a lot 😆

Another great informative video, think it proves that they need to do a lot more work on any alternative to lead
Gold on ammunition??? World has gone mad :). Excellent video though, love a no nonsense assessment!
I’m just waiting for Trading Standards to get involved on the ‘25% more accurate’ claim.

Maybe these lead free pellets will mean the end of smaller calibres like the .17
No lead free stuff will ever go through any of my guns , end of lead , end of hobby , simples , cheers shane

*[15$cad/100 pellets is not happening for me!]*
Yeah mate, not cheap atall. But they are gold plated 😆
They feel really nice to hold though..
You're brave putting them through your barrel. My springers like lead free H&N green as you know springers like light pellets.
Hopefully I dont live to regret running them through the nice barrel eh 😬

Yeah. Also, a depleted uranium would've been an alternative... Much cheaper, and glowing in the dark.
These hard, lead free pellets will wreck our barrels..

I wonder where Gamo gets their bizarre claim of 25% from?

Great video bro 👍🏻 , that's very interesting running a sub 12 177cal at say 11.5 lbs would be over 1000fps and still legal that's scary
My gun will shoot the pellets faster than the speed of sound. You can actualy hear it going thru the sound barier. Then it loses all acuracy.
Have you tried a budget slug comparison on the same lines mate ?
With these pellets being so hard, are they damaging the rifling?
At this point it's hard to say for sure, however they certainly don't feel good and I'd be very wary of attempting to run them long term. 😉
@@tillysgunstocks Thanks for the reply and the great content.
Next. Pellets made from birds fethers. After the ban on tin.😂😂😂
Is it.177 or .22 ?

Yep, pretty nasty, I don’t think I’ll be giving them a try
18 carat gold used for plating?!
I imagine it's the absolute cheapest version of gold available 😆

Card and plastic are both recyclable.
They are yes,but when laminated together definitely not. I dont trust my local council to be doing a good job of recycling either tbh.
I have tried them too. But they are the worst pellets I have ever shot.
And I dont think Gamo makes any good pellets.

Not accurate at all. Also not enough weight for my Diana 48 ( 26J)
What fps did they make must be way over 1000? 😲
They go thru the soundbarier I can hear it.
No pellet is gonna be accurate going over 1000 fps , 900 and lower is the sweet spot
