    What a terribly cumbersome system. If I want to add a black dip between two clips, is there any reason the transition in itself couldn't just overlap 5 seconds at the end of the first clip and 5 seconds at the start of the next? Wow :/

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      You could just fade the end of each clip and not use a transition at all for a basic dip to black. Just an option.

      I agree with Martin. I was so excited to learn DVR but a couple of days into it, I discovered this issue. I currently use an older version of Power Director (18) and nothing like this. You drag a transition between the clips in the timeline and it's there... double click on the transition and adjust the duration, easy. I read somewhere in an earlier comment that this was a deal breaker for him. I am now having second thoughts of switching to DVR. I heard that Capcut is another free vid editor, so I might look into that.

    I have to say, this is a bit of a letdown for such awesome software - all the other video editing software I've used transitions are probably the easiest thing to do, with no need for this "cutting 6 frames off of the end and beginning of the adjacent clips" fix. And it's also stupid that Davinci doesn't let you just drag the start of one clip on top of the end of another clip to automatically create a dissolve transition, which most other video editors do. BUT..having said that...thank you SO much for this video, without which I was about to abuse my liver and send hate mail to the makers of Davinci Resolve :)

    My issue is that some transitions seem to bork my program or computer. Is the Glitch & Warp transition some Crysis level rendering for my computer to handle or something? I'm generally working in 4K videos at max, but it seems to still be fucky when my timeline is at 1080p. Albeit maybe not AS fucky as it is in 4K, since the transition at least ends to be able to move on to the next clip.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Sounds like it's just a playback issue. Do you notice the problem in a rendered clip? I'd try some playback optimization, here's a video on a few things to try: th-cam.com/video/9R47o6kZrDU/w-d-xo.html

  • @Threadsandjars
    @Threadsandjars 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    You are a breath of fresh air when it gets so cloudy I can't see the forest for the trees. And as for the jumpiness when I play over the transition I have discovered that on my computer, if I just give it a small bit of time to catch up with itself then all works well. I can see this in the audio mixer, and watch how the audio takes a bit to drop down to the bottom. After it drops away we go. But it always does that between clips, adding or cutting them, et al. Just a slow computer I reckon, but it works well if I don't rush Davinci. Thanks so much. Morgan

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi! Glad you find my videos helpful! Sounds like you are waiting for the Render Cache to catch up. Mine is the same way. Take a few seconds to render it, then it will play through ok. Make sure you've got these set: Playback menu at the top, then Proxy Mode - Half, and also Render Cache - Smart. That should help too. Thanks for watching!

    • @Threadsandjars
      @Threadsandjars 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@JasonYadlovski Yes, I found those setting on your channel and today have done 2 videos and no problems with them. But, why do the transitions disappear after I've done a bit more work on following clips???

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They should only disappear if you modify the clip at the transition. Or try to move the clip. Then the transition will go away. I usually add transitions at the end after I've got all my cuts made.

    Jason...I just upgraded to the paid version and expected to get all the bells and whistles. I have been searching for days and can't get an answer to this question. Why do some of the transitions preview with a black screen. Block glitch is a perfect example. It goes into my clip no problem, fits where it should but previews black!! If I had any hair I would have pulled it out by now!

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey man! It could be a few things, first it could be just a playback issue and usually is. It should render ok, but I've had this problem too. The first thing I'd try is deleting the render cache. Sometimes if that's clogged up it causes issues. Next, I'd try previewing it by changing the timeline proxy mode in the Timeline menu to half and see if it will play then. I'd also try deleting the transition and adding it on again, maybe even with different clips to test it out. I'd also go into Preferences, system at the top, then Memory and GPU on the left and make sure the memory is boosted all the way up and the GPU is set properly - auto should work fine here, but if it doesn't look right for your system, you can change it and select it manually.
      Give that stuff and try and see if it help at all. Let me know how you make out.

      All you need to do is make sure you're not at the very start or end of a clip. If you do that, you should be good to go!

      @@JasonYadlovski I have 2 clips 1 and 6 minutes. I just want to add transition between them. Transition animation is about 2 seconds. But I can't do it in DaVinci Resolve. I must trim both videos to add it but I can't do it because it is full music clips. If I trim it my clips will be incomplete. I don't understand why this program has the problem with this base function. I went to another program (Movavi) and easily did it without trimming! Also I did it in my phone program! I really regret that I bought DaVinci Resolve.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Got ya, you might be able to add it in fusion. Maybe make the 2 clips a compound clip, then see if you can add the transition in fusion.

    • @JasonYadlovski
      @JasonYadlovski  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      You just gotta get used to it, it’s really not a big deal if you’re not at the very end or the very beginning of a clip. I hardly ever find it an issue for all the videos I make. There’s a lot of little things that take getting used to when working in resolve. But once you understand how everything works it’s really awesome. Best of luck either way you go, thanks for checking out the video.

      @@JasonYadlovski Yeah. :) And there's one more problem... When I cut the clip and the program allows me to add the transition by chance, I can see the cut part of clip for a while in the transition. That's not good at all. :D
