- Reposting my video presentation of RVW's Eighth Symphony. The original upload has been spoiled by advertisements added by TH-cam. I hope this repost will remain uninterrupted for at least a few weeks. (The symphony was composed between 1953 and 1955. Sir John Barbirolli, its dedicatee, conducted the Hallé Orchestra in the premiere at the Free Trade Hall in Manchester on 2 May 1956. It is the shortest of the composer's nine symphonies.)
Just beautiful, especially the Cavatina. I've heard this before but promise to come back to it.

It is not overstatement to declare this work of art a masterpiece. I could dissect it and explain why I believe it to be so, but it speaks for itself, infinitely more eloquently than I ever could. This is pure ecstasy.
