He's right though. Pirlo is an all time great but he's overrated by people who are only old enough to have watched him towards the end of his career at Juventus. He's not in that Zidane, Xavi, Iniesta, Modric bracket. Genuinely, Lampard, Gerrard and Scholes were better. Not much better and I'd group them all in the same bracket but they were better.

Funny how with Kante we now think about what he did at Chelsea and France, and we forget that he made on of the greatest runs to a title of all time with Leicester, while arguably being the best player on that team, ESPECIALLY when you realize his journey to the top and where he came from.

And sure, Modric is better at his age than Pirlo was at the same age, but Pirlo was an absolute beast for a long, long time, and if you put Modric on any other team than Madrid it's probably no contest that Pirlo was as good if not better.

Hazard’s 2018/19 season was his best season imo. He finally got to play in a more possession based attacking system under Sarri and he flourished. 2018 as a whole he was outstanding (second half of 2017/18, World Cup, 2018/19) so that was the year I would’ve chose if he was to be in contention for balon d’or.

Bergkamp is one of the greatest players of his generation. Put it this way, when he was at Ajax, he outperformed Marco Van Basten. Put that into context. Bergkamp is criminally underrated, possibly more so than Pirlo.

A player who is very similar in technical ability and style who is perhaps even more criminally underrated is a player that R9 and Romario both named as the best forward they have ever played with, a Belgian player for PSV Eindhoven by the name of Luc Nilis. If you aren't familiar with him, do yourself a favour and look up a compilation of his goals. He could score every type of goal.

For example I personally think you can swap kantè for Casemiro and Madrid still do win what they win if not more domestic trophies. And I highly doubt Casemiro wins the prem with Leicester

He cant do what a Viera can do. fair enough he is the best player at doing what he can do. but he doesn't come close to players that can do more than one thing.

Pirlo honestly didn't have any weak points, maybe pace as he got older but he was the best player on a world cup winning team, won multiple champions leagues, dominated at multiple positions in his career, and honestly might be one of the best passers of all time. He absolutely controlled games for over a decade, got older, and started a dynasty with Juve for another 6-7 years as a stellar DM. I'm not saying he's the best of all time, but he is absolutely in the top tier of midfielders over the last 25 years
Henry never deserved the Ballon d'Or. I'll explain why. 1) Played in the third strongest (at best) league in the world at the time. Both Serie A and La Liga were far superior to the Prem in the early-to-mid 2000s, so his performances/ stats were never going to catch the eye ahead of players like R9 and Shevchenko. 2) Did absolutely jackshit in Europe in the 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04 seasons. The ''Invincibles'' choked against pre-Mourinho Chelsea with guys like Damien Duff and Jasper Gronkjear (lol) and the season before they finished behind Valencia and Ajax in the group stages, going out in Matchday 6, the last day. In 01-02, lost away to Schalke, Panathinaikos and Mallorca. They then lost away at Juventus, who fielded their B team because they were already out of the second group stages and Arsenal STILL lost and went home despite only needing A POINT to qualify. They also lost home and away to Deportivo in the same campaign. The Inter team they beat 1-5 at San Siro (a team who had just lost their manager btw) also beat them 0-3 at Highbury, which people conveniently forget. That Inter team also reached the semi-final, whereas Arsenal couldn't even get to the knockouts. 3) He wasn't that impressive for France. Besides the fact that he was never the main man for the national team because of Zizou, who even at an advanced age was the daddy of world football, he never really did anything himself for the national team. People still had the failures of 2002 in their minds, and Euro 2004 was another failure for them (I am aware those tournaments were part of the seasons on either side). His international career was nothing to shout about, and he never stood out those years.
Finally, I know people will bring up the fact that Ballon d'Or is voted on by journalists and people like that, but we also had the FIFA World Player of the Year award going on concurrently, which was only voted on by players and managers, and he never won that, either, which means he wasn't rated as the best player in the world for any season even by his peers. In '02 it was R9, in '03 it was Zidane, and in '04 it was Ronaldinho.
Fact is, Henry never deserved any of these awards, and that's the proof right there.

Not having Lampard anywhere in this list is atrocious, not even mentioned by a single persons list, ballon d'Or 2005 he was robbed, 04/05 Chelsea won the league and the league cup, Chelsea broke all sorts of records in doing so, Lampard was integral to the team, won FWA and PFA Premier league player of the season, won Chelseas player of the season, won Englands player of the season, top assister in the league, was in European team of the season. Put up 19 goals and 21 assists in all comps, compared with a Ronaldihno who won La liga and put up numbers of 13 goals and 16 assists all comps, Ronaldinho won it because of the eye test, but to not metion lampard at all in this list is a genuine travesty, awful takes by all round on this one.
Not to even mention other seasons he could have won it, his entire career as one of the best midfielders in the world, 09/10 winning the league and the FA cup, 27 goals and 18 assists in 51 games all comps, not even nominated int he top 23, another travesty, because he's british and his name is Frank.

Awful take. At no point was Ramos the undisputed best cb in the world. He was always up there and sometimes maybe the best, but he was always contested.
One of the greatest cb careers achievement wise and he was crucial, but nowhere near being the actual best
Ramos perception is heavily skewed because he scored important goals. On the idea of pure defending ability, he is no where amongst the best to ever do it. Diego Godin and Chiellini are better pure defenders. Both the anchors of defensive club and NT which they led to success.

Maybe a hot take but I think Ballon d’Or votes should be done by every manager of Europe’s top 5 leagues as well as Portuguese league and Eredivise, maybe even managers from every top flight division in Europe. That’s the same for you. If you watched a young pirlo he played very similar to modric. He was an 8. A ball carrier. A dribbler. The man dribbled past players like they weren’t there. Only when he was old he became a 6. A deep line playmaker. Respect pirlo he’s as good as modric.
