Maeve is easily the best modified character from the source material without being outright, completely changed. Complex and conflicted, layered, multifaceted. She truly is Brave Maeve, precisely because of the fears she faces, unlike her comic book counterpart.
She really grew on me this season and showed her true potential.
I feel like Maeve was likely the most realistic character in the Seven. She wants to do good, but the effort has broken them and made them indifferent and flawed.
I appreciated her flaws it made her more human
Queen Maeve: "Is that a bruise?" [If it bleeds - we can kill it]
I heard that in song =)
@@GeorgiaDow I havent heard the song but I kmow it came from predator which you should also totally do.
Well lets fix that =) th-cam.com/video/qlicWUDf5MM/w-d-xo.html
The smile on Maeve's face after she makes Homelander bleed reminds me of the first predator movie. "If it bleeds, we can kill it."
Pls never ever stop your cosplays. They're awesome. Also, Maeve is one of my favorite characters in the entire series. I understand why they couldn't have more screen time with her but it still hurts.
Thank you happy you enjoyed the cosplay. Her circlet was a fair at first and I had to redo it last minute. But I think it worked =) I really enjoyed maeve this season as well I think it was her most fitting character arch
Maeve was such an awesome reluctant hero. From the very beginning she did what had to be done, even when she didn't want to, always being there when people really needed her -- even while pushing them away. I love her weary, jaded characterization in contrast to someone like Starlight.
yes she is grim and gruff and when push came to shove she was exactly what she said she wasn't
In terms of all the trauma the characters go through, I think the most pertinent example for me is the plane scene and how deeply it effects Maeve and defines her arc going forwards. How she goes from someone who begrudgingly goes along with everything Vought does because she's lost all the passion and hope she used to have to fight the good fight, to being so traumatised by that event that she gradually starts opposing Vought more and more, helping Starlight and the boys out in season 2. And ever since the plane scene, besides Butcher I think Maeve is the character who's had the most anger towards Homelander and how the drive to see him fall from grace or die is a big motivator in her helping out since she wants him dead more than anything.
A cornered animal can be more dangerous than what’s hunting it.
Love her character so much
She really was. Though I would also say she was the one on the hunt
Nice Putin reference
Maeve is a really interesting supe to me because of how complicated she is. She feels so jaded that she can do so many amazing things, yet can't actually make a difference thanks to Vought.
it was a horrible place for her to be stuck. but it also set her free
@@GeorgiaDow yeah her faking her death is the best possible thing for her. Homelander might be the insane murderer, but Vought was the one who took a super complicated situation with her gf and made it even worse with "Brave Maeve"
i think the jaded woman mentality and perspective would be really cool to explore... i just hope they do her justice instead of reducing her to some plot device. there is so much potential for story telling there.
I liked watching Maeve realize she was A LOT stronger relative to Homelander that she had thought she was. She earlier said she thought the best she could do, even with training for months to try to fight him, was "distract" him for a few seconds. She anticipated she would die quickly, like Noir did.
That moment when she sees she's made him bleed (something no one else on the show had done) and smiles gleefully really hit hard. His look of rage as he realizes, his ego now bruised, that he's vulnerable to someone (also telling he then immediately resorts to heatvision, his go to killing move).
Maeve was emotionally beaten down for so long in life, mostly by this man himself, that she developed a deep cynicism. That seemed to apply to herself, and her view of her own strength, more than to most things. She underestimated herself completely, and watching her realize that in the fight was awesome. She made Homelander bleed TWICE... she proved to herself that she could hurt him.
Kripke said that they de-powered Maeve, at a writing level, because they needed Starlight to have some time next season without her Guardian angle there to protect her from Homelander. So her struggle going forward would feel really high risk and like she was truly threatened. If Maeve still had her powers she'd just bail her out again, and it would reduce the tension. He also said we'd be seeing her again though... looking forward to that :)
Maeve evaluating herself, nice
Aww great comment thanks
I don’t think that last look between Starlight & Maeve was “I wish you didn’t have to do this” I think it was Starlight being apologetic… saying goodbye. She thought it was over, but Maeve was quick-thinking and took out Soldier Boy. That’s why Starlight looked so surprised - she didn’t expect there to be a solution.
that is also a fair interpretation I like that also heroic and self sacrificing
I was so happy to see Maeve wasn’t killed off like so many lesbian tropes. Instead she got to be the hero everyone hoped for.
well said
This scene got me good. Maeve very quickly became a favourite. I find a lot of those flawed characters really relatable and Maeve was very much someone I recognised certain struggles in.
Throughout the show I could see how Maeve is genuinely someone who is selfless and enjoys helping others. There are such people around the world and I like to see myself as one. Maeve probably started out as a genuine heroin. Having to deal with Vought and Homelander and having to go against her instinct and moral for their benefits probably tortured her greatly.
Also a side note: I don't think Homelander told Maeve to stand back because he thinks she's below him. I think he really didn't want to fight & kill her in his own twisted way.
i think he also didnt want to hurt her
Oh! Common mistake! Queen Maeve didn't die! Her eye healed, she changed her identity (named herself after a southern U.S. state). Then...she secretly dusted off her therapist credentials, got married and started a private practice as well as a TH-cam channel! = ) Okay...I've never watched the show, but Georgia, you are a super hero in my opinion! Question: Do you take any of your costumes when you go on vacation? I mean, I assume you do so when you go to comic cons...but elsewhere as well...I'm guessing. I would. = ) LOVE you facial expressions when you sit back and watch a scene. And youe insights, as always, are SO IMPRESSIVE! Thank-you. milady...
Aww such a huge compliment hehehe thank you CL and No i dont take my costumes with me and I havent been to a comicon in ages but who knows maybe next year. Thanks heh
@@GeorgiaDow Good idea! Next year, HALL "H" beckons to you! ; )
This definitely confirms a theory I had
Really Homelander isn't that much stronger than some of the others but no one bothered to try and find out because they're too scared but then Soldier boy comes in who is clearly not scared of Homelander and then maeve worked up the courage to fight him. Basically Homelander is not stronger than nuclear bombs like people claim they just think he is
Well no homelander is still stronger but I think he's acting like he's weaker maybe homelander has a secret ability to make his super human strength to make him weak
While Maeve's sacrifice was noble and heartbreaking, it felt as though the writers didn't quite know what to do with her. She was sidelined for most of the latest season, spending most of her onscreen time in jail, until being rescued by Starlight. I wish that they'd utilised her more.
she didn't even die, which was weird. She should have died. If her powers were knocked out she'd end up cracking her head on the ground like a watermelon. But she didn't. She is just scooped up with only a broken arm...
I felt like it made her effort less meaningful.
She's not dead...
I heard she couldn't be on set as much because of Covid. These writers are the best.
She kicked Homelander's ass! And saved the day. The writers know exactly what their doing.
She should’ve been more utilized in the entire show for being the second strongest. She probably would’ve been if she was a male or if she was evil.
I am addicted to your channel, thanks for all your hard work!
YAY
Thank you for the content of this channel, its really nice and you also look nice as Maeve in this video! One of the best characters in the show!
thank you I enjoyed being her cosplay
1:40 reference to Gattaca, nice.
Someone noticed !! Made my day. Yes from gattaca
I think Homelander had fear going for him, Solider Boy was the first Super to go against him. It showed he could get hurt and even bleed, and like the saying goes, if it bleeds you can kill it. Now the Boys know Homelander isn't invincible, he's just harder to kill then most
Yes yes and yes you answered my request I can’t thank you enough for this !
completely did Damian
@@GeorgiaDow can’t thank you enough for this next you should do A Train.
Amazing easy to digest analysis!
Glad you liked it

Thanks for being a part of my channel I hope you continue to enjoy it =)
Thanks for this!
Ugh Maeve. Always one of my faves. I think the writers could have utilized her more. That being said, this badass went one on one with Homelander for a long time and was pushing him back before she had to air mail Soldier Boy out of the building. Let me tell you, that shove she gave to Homelander before she collected Soldier Boy, I felt that in my soul. It was like, “You’re no longer my priority. I gotta go deal with something right now.”
You could see Homelander felt that in his face. For Maeve to switch up like, prioritizing something more noble after finally pushing back her abuser and oppressor and sacrificing a golden opportunity to take him down, rare you see something like that that translates so well on screen, and I cheered when I saw it.
Maeve said, “There are no heroes” but she is one. (Edited for typo)
I admit after seeing your video on Black Noir (which was excellent by the way) I thought we would not get one on Maeve so let me start by saying just how happy I am to have been wrong.
For me I really loved that scene when Maeve managed to make Homelander bleed and you saw both reactions, you could taste the sheer shock in Homelander and the absolute elation that Maeve felt. You could tell that whatever happened next, Maeve felt it was worth it just to know that not only could Homelander bleed, she was the one to prove it. I can not imagine how empowering that must have felt since I think we can safely say she has lived in a near constant state of fear of Homelander for the better part of a decade at the very least.
I confess, I am not sure how Maeve survived her fall but I am willing to put that aside to be happy for her.
Thank you for that wonderful analysis I fully agree. And thank you subscribing to the channel. I wasn't sure I would make a video Maeve either but as so many asked and I am happy I did. I may do Kimiko next who knows
It's my headcanon that she survived because the blast launched her back into Vought Tower, and she then fled the scene unnoticed, because Hughie calling for evacuation meant that Vought Tower was empty.
Looooove Maeve. Great video!
Sing for reluctant heroes. Give me your strength your lives are too short 🎶
I think a moment that's also worth noting, is when she stabs Homelander in the ear. A) If she'd put it a bit further in she possibly could have flat out killed him but also B) Shows she still thinking and strategizing through all of this, she might not care if she lives or dies but she's smart about doing as much damage as she can. Also follows that she's the only one of the Seven we've actually seen training to fight.
she keeps her eye on the prize and only one eye at that.
Homelander's biggest mistake was telling her what he was going to do. You never lead with the worst thing. Then they know you can't go any further.
It also showed he has no fighting experience due to his power. He is rarely fighting someone on his level.
Also showed the problem with having too many enemeies. Maeve and Butcher and the others would never have worked together if not for Homelander. She had no time for any of them but they all agreed on one thing. He needed to be taken down. Same with Soldier Boy.
Oh great point "It also showed he has no fighting experience due to his power" very true
i cant wait to see what they do with season 4
“The Boys” is so much more meaningful than any other comic series. The storyline and character development is just so satisfying. It replaces “Ironman” as my favorite of the genre. These Georgia Dow interpretation videos make them even better. She easily replaces Siskel and Ebert as my favorite reviewer. I hope she reviews every movie ever made.
Oh wow that is an amazing compliment thank you
Maeve's just so done with him and Vought.. My queen. One of a few characters who aren't afraid of Homelander and could give him a fair fight, and when she FINALLY got the chance to beat him into a pulp she chose to save others instead. She deserved her happy ending thousands times over
Can't wait for next season!
me too =-) This was a really good season
A real hero is somebody who does not believe that they are anything special, even while they are putting their lives on the line for complete strangers.
I feel like other than A-Train that Maeve had the best character arc of all the supes from the seven so far. You could see her progressively sinking lower and lower throughout each season until that finale.
First time I comment... But damn, your videos and analyzes (and cosplays) are really awesome. I've subscribed like a year ago now, and I still can't believe how you don't have more subscribers. Your content is smart, clever and always on point. I don't know if the algorythm doesn't do its job, but you really deserve so muche more ! In any case, you're one of the best discover I've made on TH-cam. Keep going on, I'm sure your talent will finally be recognized.
(Love your channel from France)
Merci =)) that is very kind and I am hoping as well hehe
Ever considered doing character breakdowns for The Expanse? I know the series is over, but I think you'd have fun with it.
Also, great job on the cosplay and analysis, as always.
Thanks I’m not sure on the expanse I’m still having to watch the last season so I’m behind for it. But may happen lots of great characters

aww she would love that
You're making me want to watch this show!
You should react to *Black Canary* in *Young Justice* . She's the team's psychiatrist, so there are literal episodes dedicated to characters like *Robin* and *Kid Flash* having a therapy session with her - she even does the psychological analysis of *Beast Boy* to make sure he's mentally stable enough to get back to "superhero work" after he loses one of his friends.

Thank you!
O please do the sandman is so interesting and I'm so sure you will have so many interesting points about the show
would you consider this confronting your abuser in maeves case. cause i was watching Crimson Countess and soldier boy relationship and how it really is similar to homelander and maeve. it seems like 2 similar cases of abuse handled in 2 different ways. one confronting and taking them head on and the other hiding and never truly confronting their abuser and sending him off to russia.
also seems like this entire season has been about bad parenting and how ones bad traits could be passed down.
when it comes from butcher’s dad treatment of both lenny and billy, and how it translates to Billy’s relationship with ryan. then the other spectrum with soldier boy’s father never being proud of his son, saying he’s a disappointment and instilling this toxic masculinity. this then results into soldier boy’s speech he gave to homelander about being a disappointment was the identical speech his father gave him.
this whole season really is insane with the cross references of relationships to those around you to.
should make a video about the parenting aspect and how ones actions affects the child growing up.
7:34 "so cool! cuz he like slid! and stopped!..it was awesome!" okay... Georgia saying this statement alone just automatically stamps how rad she is.
Hahaha it was such a good scene =))
@@GeorgiaDow aww thanks for the reply :) found your channel a week or 2 ago and been loving insight on The Boys videos and others now, I feel like i learn something new about myself each video, love the dress up you do for each video, seems like that takes a deal of time to put together.
There's such as a hero, only fools that seek glory.
The Homelander is stronger than Queen Maeve, but never underestimate how psychology can level the playing field. Professional fighters know this all too well: the lead up to a fight is just as important as the fight itself. That's why fighters may engage in activities like 'trash talking' or 'posturing'. If you make the other person doubt themselves or loose control over their emotions, you have an advantage.
Very true thank you for this
hmm. yeah. i see it as asserting dominance. like chest beating. or fang baring. animals trying to establish dominance and get the other party to back down without having to actually fight. but youre definitely right.

Georgia your point about knowing yourself remains me of a tenant from Sun Tzu's art of war
If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles.
I have been think about it alot and somthing I find interesting society puts a great stock in making out that hero's or heroic acts are some kinda rare thing, but the way I see it heros are everywhere, being a hero can be as simple as showing kindness to others.

@Georgia Dow I challenge you to the ultimate test! How about two videos on Lord of the Rings canon, those for and those open to reimagining for the modern age? I would be fascinated to hear a professional opinion. Thanks for the content 😀👍
Reimagining?
I am intrigued do you mean when the new show comes out or do you mean the movies ?
The new show primarily. Its a hot topic right now.
@@TealWolf26 Making alterations for current day
I would personally prefer a new story to represent the modern age as LotR was meant as a mythology for Britain and a product of its time. However people liked Lion King which was inspired by MacBeth so there's precedence. I just don't want to see it "rewritten," throwing out the original story. From what I hear exceptional liberties have been taken with adapting the 2nd Age in Amazon's show. I'll reserve judgement until I see it.
The scene of Queen Maeve fight with Homelander doesn't make any sense at all, specially because she was captured by Black Noir and putted in that jail. Black Noir was easily killed by Homelander, but Queen Maeve was able to fight him in the same level? Not even Soldier Boy fought in the same level as Queen Maeve did. And Black Noir was really scared of Soldier Boy.
Fellow Alcoholics, Rise up!
I think you should do an episode on Ashley ripping out her hair and stuff if you haven’t already
Please, react to City of God. Brazilian movie with amazing characters
Being blind in one eye, (not from a thumb thankfully...) any scene that involves trauma to eyes always makes me cringe. As for Maeve's fight, it was exceptionally brutal but I do wonder what would be the greater sacrifice for a Super. Losing their power or losing their life. I found myself wondering if Maeve losing her powers and not her life would be viewed as a lesser or greater sacrifice. I was sort of shocked when she turned up at the end albeit very beaten, bruised and maimed. Did the show writers take the "easy route" in keeping her alive?
Killing her would have been a disservice, in real life people more likely survive disabled to very dangerous situation than die 100% of the time

So this is super off topic but I found this video from an episode of a show I used to watch called New Amsterdam. It's about the sister of a patient and how she might be a psychopath because she's the one who intentionally put her brother in the hospital. The psychologist that works there is having a one on one session with her to help her understand what she did and how she can improve. I think you'll really like it and I'd love to hear your thoughts about it. Especially since you've done a reaction to child psychopath Henry Creel.

What differences. Homelander had been abusing her for years. This fight was bound to happen
Hi there. Your commentary is interesting, so this isn't against you. However, I have a REAL opposition to "The Boys" franchise. In the interest of full disclosure, after reading much of one of the early books, I was so disgusted that I refused to view anything else (book or video) directly. So take me with a grain of salt. However, I admit that. Also, while I don't watch the show, I also don't watch or read the materials that are critical of it. After my initial exposure to the first book, I relied on the videos and writings of FANS of the show and books. What they describe, in a praising way, sounds like such a cynical celebration of violence and depravity, created by folks who sincerely HATE the concept of superheroes and heroism in general, that I think the creators of "The Boys" books and TV series have some SERIOUS psychological issues. Could you do a take RE the bitter cynicism of the creators of this series who seem to hate the idea of real heroes so much? I really see such cynicism as a MAJOR problem in our society.
I think that their take is that power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely. So I think they are wondering what would happen if people could have that much power and have to deal with that struggle. Now I fully agree that cynicism is a bad trait of society and I fully can understand how its something you avoid. I think this video sees the hope in the show though = )
Friendly suggestion, avoid the movie "Brightburn". Its a horror movie retelling of a Superman like origin story until the boy becomes a teenager.
@@Pohgg-c9o thanks, but I have already seen "Brightburn." I have similar complaints about it, but also see some attempt at legitimate criticism in it. It's just that, from the little of "The Boys" I saw for myself, plus the large amount of material I have seen from fans and supporters of the series, it seems to be more focused on showing the potential depravity and violence of out-of-control "supes" in excruciating detail.
@@GeorgiaDow I do see how you try to put a more hopeful spin on things. And I understand that real people with such powers could indeed become real monsters, especially seeing how much our society has decayed. I just think it's one thing to show the downside and potential dangers in a situation but quite another to wallow in that "downsidedness" and danger. I feel like "The Boys" wallows in those things. I DO like YOUR videos though!
@@professord1522 so are you against game of thrones as well? because that glorifies violence as well. maybe not as often as the boys.
i think youre right. the show does glorify violence. and i think audiences are attracted to the flashy and sensational displays of violence.
and you can be morally offended... that is up to you.
but i think the violence in the story telling also allows a different tone of story to be told. for instance, band of brothers is limited series about world war 2. and arent all war movies essentially glorifying violence?
do we need a specific tribe against tribe for displays of violence to be justified in ones mind?
does the depiction and celebration of violence make an individual feel threatened? concerned?
i think... we have plenty to worry about it. i dont fake violence is going to magically shake the fabric of society as you know it.
violence is already real. and its not going away anytime soon. but you can think whatever you want.
i really liked maeves character but i kinda wished they followed through with maeves death after her sacrifice. I felt like seeing her survive removed a lot of the emotional weight out of her choice.
Have you ever watchted the lengendary mafia show The Sopranos??
The basic concept at first is this: The New Jersey mobboss/Don of New Jersey Anthony Soprano starts getting panic attcks & passes out. Now this is an obvious sign of weakness that cannot be tolerated in the Cosa Nostra..."This thing of ours"
So to help this Tony goes to visit a Real Therapist Dr. Melfi.
It is a long show yes. Yet still very popular. It is by many considered one of the best TV -shows ever made. I mean personally I would love to hear your analysis of many of these characters. From tonys kids to his drug addict nephew, his Consigliary Silvio...It is as mentioned above all framed(at least for the first 3 seasons) via Anthony going to therapy.
