When I rewatch the series and see how supportive Jimmy is with his brother- the amount of patience and care and sympathy he has- makes me so mad that Chuck doesn’t let go of his pride to give Jimmy the support he deserves in return. Even when Jimmy steps away he’s still looking out for Chuck. Jimmy isn’t perfect but he didn’t deserved to be side swept by Chuck. Slippin Jimmy was harmless for a long time and chucks death along with hearing Chuck’s last words to him…I think that’s what set him off to start turning into Saul. Excellent video and analysis.
Honestly I love how the show clearly doesn’t use his OCD as a joke(personality didn’t read that one scene as a joke but to each their own). It’s treated just as seriously as any other thing should be. A lot of the time OCD characters literally just exist as the but of the joke over their “paranoia”. I don’t have OCD but I have Dyslexia and seeing how seriously and respectfully my neurodivergency was handled makes me feel bad for other people that don’t have that same care.
As someone with OCD I personally didn't see it as a joke, but I can see how some people would see seemingly bizarre behavior and think it was funny. I think sometimes people see fussy behavior or people obsessed with cleaning and it's played for laughs, but when someone is going through a full anxiety response it's sad to watch even if the actual behavior seems so strange it might make some people laugh. The tone of the show really helps make it seem sympathetic and not played for laughs
I am so happy that few saw the scene as humorous either. thank you for sharing it. They did a really good job with showing how it is exhausting and debilitating.
I definitely agree. As someone who has experienced panic attacks, it seemed more like a deliberate juxtaposition of how different the internal perception can be vastly different from the external reality of the situation. And that can elicit a bit of a laugh, but more from the unexpected perspective shift and less from the situation itself being funny or played for laughs.
I’m really glad you’ve had that respectful experience. I work with kids with dyslexia, and one of all their biggest anxieties is that it’s so often mocked and used as a joke.
As someone with OCD I really appreciate your analysis here. For me it was intrusive thoughts about vermin (bugs/mice etc) and it was like my brain was bullying me with whatabouts and "oh don't forget"; it felt like playing a never ending "castle defense" game. For other people it seems concerning or sometimes comical, and a lot of series with OCD tend to focus on how the viewer or the other characters see this person. But to us, it is EXHAUSTING; it's exhausting to do your rituals and exhausting to try and figure out how to not do them. For me personally, I knew my thoughts were extreme or out of the ordinary, so it felt like my brain was constantly lying to me. I think this series does a great job with portraying OCD as isolating and truly confusing for us, because it's frustrating to see other people not affected by the things we are or have them frustrated with us for not doing things "normally". But I think the worst part of OCD for me personally is feeling like I can't always trust my own instincts, and just how lonely it can be to feel/live that way. Even today with medicine and therapy it still sometimes feels like I'm trying to talk my brain down.
Keep working on it and do your journaling though it is exhausting. Thank you for sharing how things are for you it will help others not feel alone. Dont give up ! thank you
Thank you for sharing your experience. Reference my main reply. I am 38, i suffered from a bombardment of mutually exclusive obesssions from the age of 10-15 before undertaking a long road to recovery with the help of intense therapy and learned skills. The most important technique I learned was to do exactly what you feel is uncomfortable and force yourself to cope. To this day, I have completely changed my habits to counteract these obsessions. I suffee from a tremendous amount of underlying anxiety but lucky SSRIs have helped with taking slight edge off. Its been 20 years since I have recovered but I can still sense that it is hibernating. Now it just manifests as generalized anxiety. The last time a specific thought popped into my head that had me recall my compulsions, i was waking my dog about 6 months ago. He circled around the street sign by our house and I had to circle around with him to rerout the leash. The thought of "something bad will happen if i don't reverse my steps to detange the imaginery string on my back" popped into my head. I imediately remembered the work i put in years ago and thought about something else to distract me from that idea. I then let him continue to sniff around the sign 2 more times and smiled thinking about how i am in control of my thoughts now. You'll get there! The psycologist who treated me said I had, by far, one is the worse cases he had ever observed, mostly because it manifested into a multitude of unrelated obessions (i had about 10 different one's). If i can get to the point if full control where it is second nature, anyone can!
I have OCD. Before I was diagnosed, and when I started watching Better Call Saul, Chuck stood out to me as a relatable character. I wasn't sure why at the time, but after reading different character analyses on Chuck on the internet (outside of just... memes and general character hatred, which are more the norm), I started being introduced to different concepts and symptoms relating to OCD, and hearing other people with OCD discussing how they could relate to Chuck. Honestly, even though he's just a fictional character, he helped me learn more about myself and pushed me to get help in therapy, which is pretty great. I'm glad that Chuck exists because there are people like me who are struggling who can see parts of themselves in him, which can be very comforting and even informative. I just love that sad, bitter old man to pieces.
I watched the show before my recent OCD diagnosis. I had wondered what conditions Chuck had, and OCD didn't occur to me. Receiving my diagnosis afterward, then seeing this video a few months later, was a lot. Seeing people online call Chuck insensitive things, it was a lot seeing that we share the same condition. Luckily, this new info from watching your video. And you are always careful, knowledgeable, warm, and feel safe. I'm glad these complex feelings hit me while absorbing your kind of content, because it was the best content for it to happen during. Thank you for all you do.
So glad to see you're covering Better Call Saul. It's such a masterclass in writing characters who personify the best (and worst) of the human mind. Would love to see more from BCS, especially on Jimmy and Kim. Their relationship is so complex and worthy of some serious analysis. Excellent work as always, love watching your vids Georgia :)
"Jimmy is such a good brother!" God dammit, you're gonna make me cry. You're doing such a wonderful work with these that i don't know if i should tell you to keep watching this masterfully crafted series or to stop watching right now to prevent some sad future experiences.
thank u so much for making this video, i was only recently diagnosed with ocd in 2020 but ive been dealing with it for most of my life. so many people think ocd is like wanting to just organize things but ive been struggling so much just to go outside, my anxiety and fear is just killing me. it feels so nice to hear a professional shed light on some of these issues and not play ocd up as a joke like it often is in most depictions in media
It was so wonderful and heartwarming to see Jimmy supporting Chuck in every way possible, even going as far as having the space blanket sewn into the linings of Chuck's jacket. It's just a shame that Chuck couldn't put his pride away and do the same for Jimmy when he needed him.
I 100% didn't read that scene as a joke. My feelings towards Chuck are complicated but that scene made me feel so worry and sad for him, because that's how bad it gets for him, that's how "insane" it looks from an outsider perspective.
I really loved how the show showed the reality of dealing with this , I have extreme social phobia, I am right now working with my therapist and psychatrist on this but its very hard to go outside, I am soo afraid of people and human interraction that I startr throwing up, I starts sweating , I cant breathe and it totally overwhelms me , sometimes I feel like nobody understands me , it sounds ridiculous to people that I am afraid of cars and people
Better Call Saul :O My favorite show of all time! Georgia thank you sooo much for diving into one of the characters! You never fail to surprise with unique and creative content!
I was diagnosed with OCD a while back, and shortly after Watching Better Call Saul, I saw Chuck and went "darn... I really acted a lot like that before getting help." So glad I've gotten help, but that experience really helped me to see what Chuck was dealing with, but also see how it affected those around him.
The way you explain ocd makes me feel relief. I'll talk to my psych because I have all these separate anxiety diagnoses that is summerized by it being hard to be existing looking calm but inside are anxious just every word
I think the scene with the mylar sheet, when he was going to steal the newspaper was both intended to be humorous and horrifying at the same time. It shows the perspective of Saul's brother, but also show's it from the perspective of a casual onlooker, who these things might seem so bizarre and "ridiculous".
I loved what you said about how if someone is driving slow, they might have a driving phobia or other trauma that happened and they might be doing everything they can just to get somewhere! While my daughter and I were in our car a few days ago, someone was driving in a panic, and my daughter said they might have an emergency. I was ready to write them off as a jerk, but then they turned into the Animal Emergency Center. I was really proud of her empathy. It's really true that we don't know what's going on in other people's lives and a little kindness could really go a long way. Great video, as always!
This is such an amazing analysis! I really hope you continue with more characters from the series. I would really love to see your insight on Kim and Jimmy.
Interesting video. Amazing how impactful on quality of life an extreme case of OCD can get. Also to see a version different than the one played by Jack Nicholson in "As Good as it Gets".
I just wanted to say I really like your channel it has been really entertaining and really fun to watch I’ve learned a lot from it I especially really like this episode because I actually do have OCD I can’t say if it’s a good method but I control it by listening to music but thank you for making these videos they’re really entertaining and really informative
Music is a good way, did you see my max run video ? It can be soothing and if it helps that is wonderful. It may not stop ir though you may need to use some more traditional CBT therapy. Hope you find your way out, it is treatable. Appreciate you sharing so others will have the courage to share or get help also
As a psychology student, this fascinates me. I do love how this show communicates Chuck's internal struggle that actually contributes to his relationship with others. Given that this is one of my all time favourite shows, please could you follow up on the psychology of Jimmy and Kim?
Thank you and im glad your reviewing this series! Have you seen the entire show? If no, I highly recommend it! I love character-driven stories (like arcane) because these character are written with so much depth and complexity they feel very real and organic. The show just finished, and maybe recency bias?, but this os hands down the best written fiction (drama) i've ever experienced. Jimmy's character alone is one hell of chaacter study already, the traumas and tragedies he experienced, how he responded to those, his ego, his pride, his want for recognition, and more; leading to his slow transformation. And her love one Kim, too, deserves an analysis, and more so their very complicated dynamic/relationship as a couple. All characters in this show are incredibly written and complex, no ones black and white. The shows masterclass in every department really! Anyway, thank you for the video, i learned a lot! Ive always thought chuck suffers from psychosomatic disorder hehe. I didnt know OCD was like that and was also an anxiety illness. I thought ocds are just like being obsessive on some specific things. I love psychology! I did not study it tho, but my girlfriend did! So I kinda picked up some few things here and there and that grew my interest even more. Looking forward to more better call saul videos!
Awesome video! I have not seen the show but watched this because you have great videos and this is no exception. I appreciate how empathetic you are and how you bring up the points of how we do not know the struggles someone is going through and how it is important to be supportive, patient, and not push someone too hard, especially when they are struggling. I struggle with overthinking and worries myself and what you said resonated with me. I hope you have a wonderful day! :).
I read Chuck as having OCPD (Obsessive Compulsive PERSONALITY Disorder) because he's inflexible, perfectionistic, rule-driven and controlling in every area of his life. He puts work over relationships in the most extreme way possible. He can't even do karaoke the way you're supposed to, because what's the point of anything if you're not aiming for perfection? (This is also why Jimmy gaslighting Chuck into thinking he made a crucial, case-ruining mistake, is one of the most cruel acts of manipulation I've ever seen in fiction. Chuck is an asshole but Jimmy's weaponized empathy is straight-up evil.)
Another thing about Chuck’s situation is seems to start just as soon as Jimmy becomes a lawyer. Also whenever I see the episode where Chuck goes off in the middle of the court, ranting how he’s not crazy and how Jimmy needs to be stopped, I always compare that scene to the scene in the Cane Mutiny where the captain rants off about the strawberries thus proving his mental instability. Anyway, love the videos, Georgia Dow.
In the series, Chuck's percieved ESD symptoms come up shortly after his divorce from his wife. Is a long-term sudden surge in obsessive-compulsive thoughts something that is known to happen after emotionally intensive events?
Yes in an attempt to control the uncontrollable I would assume. This is a common thing that it can come up after a traumatic or emotionally strong event where you didnt feel you could stop or control it, You find other ways to control things
@@GeorgiaDow His character is famous (in the show) for his brilliant mind, and something he prides himself above all. I think his OCD around perceived electrical stimuli is also because he has to justify/externalize his anxiety. To him, it *has* to be a physical condition, because his mind is above questioning.
At first, the show did a great job at “gaslighting” me into thinking that his condition was actually a thing, but then I started noticing his symptoms and I was surprised on how similar it were to mine’s (even in different circumstances/ for example I have something similar but with bacteria). I was like “I know a OCD person when I see one!” hahaha. Then I went into google just to confirm it and I wasn’t the only one who thought about that haha! I really appreciated how the series portrayed the disorder because it wasn’t trying to make it loud like in those shows where you have “the ocd character” like monica from friends. I also liked to see the relationship dynamic between Jimmy and Chuck and how Jimmy kinda “feeds” the OCD by doing what Chuck demands and it also made me remember of me and my mom. Also seeing how self-destructive it can be or how it affects you on your daily routine and goals like going to your job or losing a relationship, so it really showed another side of OCD that I never saw on TV. I didn’t despite Chuck at all because I saw a little bit of him in me lmao.
I think i might seriously have OCD. I've struggled for so long and it just all makes sense, crippling anxiety over intrusive thoughts usually about the worse case scenario of most things or how i feel like i'm wasting my life away no matter what i do; i'm anxious cause i'm not doing anything and i'm not doing anything cause i'm anxious about what could happen . it's exhausting.
It could also be anxiety but either way you may want to find a way to manage it. Either a workbook or finding a therapist who you would feel comfortable working with. It can really help
this was very informative, i never would have diagnosed chuck with OCD but it makes a lot of sense! i would have loved to learn more about what triggered it tho, from your perspective. from my (obviously not professional perspective) anecdotal experience OCD tends to manifest in yout 20s at the most, and Chuck being at leas 50 years old I wonder what the circumstances were about it manifesting until after so long. or was it perhaps that it had always been there?
Can you please do an analysis on Billy from stranger things. He’s my favourite character from the show and his story is so powerful, from abused to bullying, dominating to psycho, from slave to sacrifice.
Can you do OCD on monk his OCD what hugeeee and extreme he would literally run from gunfire and have to turn around to touch a pole or a mailbox it was funny but thinking about it it was actually negatively impacting him
2:38 I disagree with this take in my opinion. When I first watched that scene, I was very uncomfortable and concerned. I didn't sense any comical nature in that scene.
I see it differently, when he is says brown book, green cup etc. he tries to stay in his fake world where he believes what he does is okay and he stays in control of him self instead of losing control and facing the real world, losing control would be like giving up on the little game he is playing against his brother, vs letingt the love be his guidance instead of his ego.
Reminds of the Scrubs episode where Michael J Fox guest starred as a character with OCD. I enjoy when shows tackle life in ALL of its wonder and flaw. Hugs friends.
I have OCD as well, for me it’s germs and contamination. It’s hard to explain but I guess the best way to explain it is this. I can’t have any germs or atoms from the outside world. I can only touch something if it has been cleaned by only me or it has to be straight from the package, for example trash bags, I use those often and have many uses for them like getting clothes from the dryer or using as gloves because they go over my whole arm. The only place I can touch or get comfortable is my room and I can’t have any contact with ANYTHING outside of it because it’s all contaminated because other people who don’t have OCD live here so I immediately assume they’ve touched EVERYTHING. If I touch something that is contaminated I have to wash my hand very carefully and if a accidentally brush against something outside of my room and I mean literally anything like the wall, furniture, anything or else I have to either change clothes or go take a shower, it depends on what on me got touched like if it’s my elbow I have to wash it off at the sink or if my shirt or pants get touched I have to take those off. I have house shoes and if the outsides touch my pants I have to take them off. If I even fell a tingle on me then I have to either wash it off of wipe it off with alcohol on a cloth. Speaking of clothing, only I can touch my clothing, which is an issue because I can’t touch anything so I have to get a bag to open the dryer with and then the bag is now contaminated so then I put that down and only then can I get my clothes and they can’t touch anything so they have to go straight into a bag and if they touch anything that’s contaminated on the way there they have to go back in the dryer for 15-20 minutes. I’m not even gonna talk about school but I’ll say that after it. I have to clean my phone carefully even the inside of the speakers and charger port I don’t even use my case at home anymore because it’s too contaminated. Then when I’m done with my phone I use mouthwash and I drink some so it gets my throat. Then I go shower and that takes hours because I first wash my hair and face and then I have to wash off the soap bottles, and my wash rag and then put the rag in a ziplock bag which I also wash off then I wash my hair again carefully and I go through my hair three times, then I do my head which includes deeps inside my ears to the eardrum, I let soap and water fill up in my ears and then will clean the insides with my finger and then wash my hands afterwards. I wash out my eyes, and then I do my eyebrows and eye lashes with shampoo and then I let the insides of my nose fill up with soap and water. I even wash my lips and the insides. Then I work my way down my body thoroughly and do each section of my body thoroughly and get every skin cell until I’m done, I even do things I don’t want to say here. Before I get out I brush my teeth and throat thoroughly and the wash my hair once more and then I’m out but if I touch anything on my way out I have to go right back in, have to open the doors with the bag I put my bar of soap and rag in and once I’m at my bed I clean the deep insides of my ears and nose with a q-tip, I use to dip it in alcohol but I don’t anymore if I get clean it good enough in the shower. Thankfully I’m doing an online course right now and only have to go in person once a week so it’s not everyday like it was. This has taken a huge effect on my life and my physical health like my skin. I seriously don’t know what I’m going to do. I’m going to therapy and recently started taking medicine so that’s good. But as of right now I’m incapable of anything and I don’t know what I’m going to do. I sometimes think the only way out is suicide but I don’t want to do that to my loved ones but as I said, I’m taking medicine for it and depression so that is good.
I suffered from full on OCD from the age of 10 - 15 before being treated with a detailed therapy regimen over the course of a 2 year period to slowly recover. From my close experience, this cinematic illustration was a harsh, realistic representation. The producers must have consulted psychiatric experts on this. The disorder is similar to depression in the fact that it quickly spirals to the point where it is very hard to work on recovery without help. I was personally treated by Dr. Marty Franklin, leading OCD researcher from Penn. My case may be mentioned in his literature. I still have uncomfortable thoughts to this day that come and go, likely have OCPD personality disorder, but i have learned an array of coping technics to control it in its infancy. Sadly, the term OCD is very losely used coloquial conversation and commonly, falsely self diagnosed in pop culture without accurate knowledge of the true severity.
100% I'm not that bad but I have felt the ocd It stars small and if I don't try keep a hand on it really gets intrusive and time consuming. I'm glad to see this video & I might watch the show to it looks good 👍
I've always described it to neurotypical folks as similar to holding your breath. That small urge to intake air that is, at first, ignorable, but grows and grows out of control until it is an all consuming compulsion, shutting literally everything else out. (Mine is also not that bad, lol) A trick that I learned from my Mommah, who also has it, is to pick your battles. The small things that don't bother anyone are ok to "fail at" stopping, and it preserves your energy for the bigger tasks ahead.
OCD for me created non-stop exhaustion. It is horrible and I hope I never get that bad again. Luckily I was never this bad (regarding your example), but it doesn't change the toll done to you.
Great video! I didn't think it was showing him as a joke but more as a "crazy man". In his house, he's a very smart and calm layer but when he's going out, the word can only see him as a crazy man with strange behavior. It shows that people can be very different depending of their situation. I would like to see what you think about Chuck and Jimmy's different sense of morality. For me Chuck is this guy with a "black and white" sense of morality : A moral person is a person who follow the law. (he's the type of person who would follow blindy extremist laws) And even if he would defend a criminal (because the law says that everyone deserve to be defend in court), he would never try to understand and not moraly judge they. Jimmy is the extreme opposite : he use the law as his advantage to defend people who didn't follow the law in the first place (and Chuck hates that) and he also never judge them for their action. No matter what he says openly, Chuck judge people and think he's superior than a lot of people, including his brother and he hate the idea of his ex conman of brother becoming a layer (the job that Chuck value the most). In the end of the show (no spoilers), Jimmy didn't follow the moral of the law but followed Kim, the only person with Chuck he loved and truly cared about.
OCD diagnosed here-I can't believe I didn't catch that chuck has OCD! I assumed it was some type of delusional psychosis, but yeah, as soon as you mention it it makes perfect sense. I especially love the fact that it takes the condition seriously, and doesn't play it up for laughs, at least not extensively. The only other decent portrayal I've seen was in Scrub's when Michael J Fox guest started for an episode. It was still used for jokes there, but at it's core was truth and an honest look at the difficulty of having the condition. As opposed to say... Sheldon Cooper, Death the Kid, or a million other cheap jabs at a mental illness 😅 On the topic of safe words, my wife has social anxiety, and safe words are SO VALUABLE! Our "Get me the hell outta here" is to ask about car repair. "Hey, can we put air in my tires on the way home?" "Only if we head out now, we might not have time otherwise."
yeah.. I really don't think that chuck's POV in the scene where he goes out to get the newspaper was treated as a joke either in the story itself or in the way they filmed it. The writers who wrote the character of chuck clearly knew one or more people with OCD.
I’m really surprised she’s never covered Red Dead Redemption 2! It’s a great cowboy game but it also has a surprisingly deep & emotional storyline when you really look at it
I hope you get the chance to do some analysis on Breaking bad characters. There was so much psychological aspects and scenes. You would have a field day
The amount of detail in this show is astounding. Everything serves a purpose, even when a scene seems boring or pointless. Anyway, the scene where Chuck is running to the neighbor's house for the paper wasn't funny to me until it showed him from the neighbor lady's perspective. I mean, how would you feel if you saw something like that without knowing the person?
just be patient with people when they stop or are taking long with things. They probably won't share but there are small signs of repetitive behaviour ordered behaviour and not touching things.
You should react to infinity train ,it's an incredibly show!! Especially the first season , it has a lot of elements of fantasy maybe but it would be nice to see you do it!!
As destructive as Chuck’s hate was, it would have never been as bad if he would have gotten the help he needed. He was mentally ill and not acting entirely of his own volition. As painful as he was to Jimmy, he could have been healed and come to truly forgive and embrace his brother. But ya know, good tv 😢
I think you are doing the show injustice when you presume that that scene where Chuck goes outside in a Mylar sheet and steals the neighbour's newspaper was meant to be funny. I think the purpose is to highlight the contrast between the distress Chuck feels and the perspective of the old woman who later calls the police on him. From her perspective, he just seems like some "weirdo" who steals her newspaper, but we as the audience of course understand what is happening and why and can feel the gravity of the situation. I believe that from a film-making point of view, it is absolutely essential that we see the scene from the perspective of that old woman, otherwise the next scene where police shows up and demands access to his home would feel very disjointed and confusing to the audience.
I don't know if you did this before but could you cover something like psychopathy? I have always had no empathy in my entire life and feel pretty alone, like someone outside of the realm of everyone else. I guess I just want some explanations from a trained professional.
you got me thinking Georgia (as usual) - would you say that OCD is quite as common as people believe? because ever since the term OCD was publicised, a LOT of people have started saying "my OCDs have hit". naturally I do not expect you to say an overly generalised statement, such as "50% of people around the globe who claim to have OCD do not actually have it", I do not believe general statements like that to be beneficial. maybe a video on the topic in the future? ;-)
I think that ocd is much more prevalent than people know as most do not share that they have it in fear of being judged or misunderstood. I also know many use it as a term when they dont actually have it. Which I am happy it is not stigmatized but it does actually diminish the understanding of how debilitating it can be for those who have it as well. Thank you for the thoughtful question
Nah, i think Chuck has severe panic disorder/agoraphobic. The electricity allergy is just what he made up in his mind to tell himself he doesn't have a mental disorder. He's a perfectionist in a high stress job which is a trademark of people with anxiety. Hes very smart and somewhat narcissistic. A mental disorder is out of his control, and he is all about control. His only safespace left is his house where there are less triggers, and shields himself from the world....sometimes in the form of a space blanket.
I think you’re spot on with agoraphobia, but I’d also say that it’s comorbid OCD and borderline personality disorder. Some might argue narcissistic personality disorder but it wouldn’t fit the DSM5 criteria entirely. But definitely has some narcissistic tendencies
The only reason people find it funny, other than the out of context look of someone wrapping themselves in a silvery blanket out in public.. is because people don't like the character of Chuck... they see him as an antagonist to our fave character of Jimmy/Saul. They don't have sympathy for him because he's been mean and subversive to Jimmy... so we will laugh at those who we may not normally make fun of, if we don't have a like for them.
Georgia...I'm guessing...your own shirt and your husband's jacket and tie? = ) Oversize YET looks good! I am of two minds with this video...first EPIC explanation and SPECTACULAR gift of hope to people suffering from OCD! STANDING OVATION!!! The other thing? I never watch shows where they try to make the corrupt, the unethical, the criminal...the bad guy...the one to root for. Scorsese mocks Marvel while he makes variations of the mob and criminal organizations look appealing to people, especially teenagers. TV shows like this do the same. Such organizations prey on people for profit. ...and relish in the harm, heartache and turmoil, death and destruction they create. NOTHING good about them.
@@DarkHarlequin that’s so true 😅then again, look what happened to Howard 🤔
Honestly I love how the show clearly doesn’t use his OCD as a joke(personality didn’t read that one scene as a joke but to each their own). It’s treated just as seriously as any other thing should be. A lot of the time OCD characters literally just exist as the but of the joke over their “paranoia”. I don’t have OCD but I have Dyslexia and seeing how seriously and respectfully my neurodivergency was handled makes me feel bad for other people that don’t have that same care.
I genuinely can't see that scene as a joke.
Dont give up ! thank you
You got this Sean! Woohoo! ☺️
I love how this series treats such complex characters. Hopefully you can dive more into others such as Tuco, Gus, Lalo, Kim and Jimmy
Thank you for all you do.
thanks so much and good luck in working through your OCD I wish you the best
So glad to see you're covering Better Call Saul. It's such a masterclass in writing characters who personify the best (and worst) of the human mind. Would love to see more from BCS, especially on Jimmy and Kim. Their relationship is so complex and worthy of some serious analysis. Excellent work as always, love watching your vids Georgia :)
Thank you I’m working on what to cover next right now and scripting away : ). The input is really helpful in finding out what to do next
"Jimmy is such a good brother!"
God dammit, you're gonna make me cry. You're doing such a wonderful work with these that i don't know if i should tell you to keep watching this masterfully crafted series or to stop watching right now to prevent some sad future experiences.
That's what tv is all about mate!! Enjoying the hypothetical emotional roller coaster! :) All aboard
thank u so much for making this video, i was only recently diagnosed with ocd in 2020 but ive been dealing with it for most of my life. so many people think ocd is like wanting to just organize things but ive been struggling so much just to go outside, my anxiety and fear is just killing me. it feels so nice to hear a professional shed light on some of these issues and not play ocd up as a joke like it often is in most depictions in media
Wish you the best in dealing with it. You can get past it but you need to keep doing the work
It was so wonderful and heartwarming to see Jimmy supporting Chuck in every way possible, even going as far as having the space blanket sewn into the linings of Chuck's jacket.
He’s a good actor, the character Chuck stayed in my mind long after *no spoilers*. Such a great show better call Saul.
The way you explain ocd makes me feel relief. I'll talk to my psych because I have all these separate anxiety diagnoses that is summerized by it being hard to be existing looking calm but inside are anxious just every word
This was fantastic!! I hope you continue better call Saul
I think the scene with the mylar sheet, when he was going to steal the newspaper was both intended to be humorous and horrifying at the same time. It shows the perspective of Saul's brother, but also show's it from the perspective of a casual onlooker, who these things might seem so bizarre and "ridiculous".
Never expected this but I’m glad your doing this show!
Michael McKean played it so well. Mad respect.
This is so interesting! Are you planning to do any videos on how Jimmy reacts to traumatic events?
Yes I may just do that : ) I’m still planning the next videos
@@GeorgiaDow Im happy to hear you're planning more videos on this fantastic show!
This is such an amazing analysis! I really hope you continue with more characters from the series. I would really love to see your insight on Kim and Jimmy.
Glad everything worked out for Chuck and his brother
oh ....
Appreciate you sharing so others will have the courage to share or get help also
Never expected BCS/BB from this channel and I love it. PLEASE tell me a Walter video is next
Emotion Code by Dr. Bradley Nelson makes dealing with 'OCD' and other related issues quite easy
Cosplay is once again on point!
I did try =)
really good video for explaining all the things that Chuck deals with.
Glad you liked it!
That means a lot to me. I am so happy it was helpful even if you didn’t see the show
@@GeorgiaDow :) I appreciate you, Georgia. Your videos are always helpful and your empathy and advice make a difference. :) Take care.
“Jimmy is such a good brother” Ha!
This video are soo good, I really appreciate. 🇧🇷
I love your channel so much. Thank you!
Thank you and happy you are enjoying it
Idk if a lot of content can be made out of it as he hasn’t talked about it that much, but could you maybe analyze mm’s ocd from the boys if possible?
Thanks for sharing. Blessings on your day 👍🏻
Thank you Jeff !
Have you analyzed Jimmy post his brothers revelation and death?
this was very informative, i never would have diagnosed chuck with OCD but it makes a lot of sense! i would have loved to learn more about what triggered it tho, from your perspective. from my (obviously not professional perspective) anecdotal experience OCD tends to manifest in yout 20s at the most, and Chuck being at leas 50 years old I wonder what the circumstances were about it manifesting until after so long. or was it perhaps that it had always been there?
MM from the boys is another surprisingly good depiction of ocd
Problem is it shouldn't trigger if he can't see a phone.
Can you please do an analysis on Billy from stranger things. He’s my favourite character from the show and his story is so powerful, from abused to bullying, dominating to psycho, from slave to sacrifice.
Can you do OCD on monk his OCD what hugeeee and extreme he would literally run from gunfire and have to turn around to touch a pole or a mailbox it was funny but thinking about it it was actually negatively impacting him
2:38
I disagree with this take in my opinion.
Chuck made his parents proud, but Jimmy made them laugh
Reminds of the Scrubs episode where Michael J Fox guest starred as a character with OCD. I enjoy when shows tackle life in ALL of its wonder and flaw. Hugs friends.
Now part of me now wonders of Jimmy should’ve become a therapist instead of a lawyer.
he would have been a really good one. he is very empathic and caring and very patient
Its like we see here what Jimmy could have been if he had ever had any acceptance, I believe.
There is a show Call "Breeders" I think you could really take a look
Jesse‘s trauma from shooting the guy in breaking bad would be a great video
100% I'm not that bad but I have felt the ocd
It stars small and if I don't try keep a hand on it really gets intrusive and time consuming.
I'm glad to see this video & I might watch the show to it looks good 👍
I've always described it to neurotypical folks as similar to holding your breath. That small urge to intake air that is, at first, ignorable, but grows and grows out of control until it is an all consuming compulsion, shutting literally everything else out.
(Mine is also not that bad, lol)
A trick that I learned from my Mommah, who also has it, is to pick your battles. The small things that don't bother anyone are ok to "fail at" stopping, and it preserves your energy for the bigger tasks ahead.
@@defenderbyname3484 that's a good way to describe it thanks I will have to remember that one
OCD for me created non-stop exhaustion. It is horrible and I hope I never get that bad again.
Luckily I was never this bad (regarding your example), but it doesn't change the toll done to you.
The toll is horrible and it can ruin even feeling relaxed. So happy you have climbed out of it I hope you get to the point you dont feel it anymore.
Awesome show
Great video!
Sheldon Cooper, Death the Kid, or a million other cheap jabs at a mental illness 😅
On the topic of safe words, my wife has social anxiety, and safe words are SO VALUABLE! Our "Get me the hell outta here" is to ask about car repair.
"Hey, can we put air in my tires on the way home?"
"Only if we head out now, we might not have time otherwise."
its hard for OCD as there are so many different types and forms of it. I hope it isn't too absorbing of your life and you are doing well
@@GeorgiaDow medicated and therapized! Thank you very much for your care :)
If I may, could I suggest that you check out "The Umbrella Academy"?
That is one messed up family and I would live to see you dig into them.
yeah.. I really don't think that chuck's POV in the scene where he goes out to get the newspaper was treated as a joke either in the story itself or in the way they filmed it. The writers who wrote the character of chuck clearly knew one or more people with OCD.
I really hope you can cover more breaking bad characters especially Jesse pinkman🔥🔥🔥
I’m really surprised she’s never covered Red Dead Redemption 2! It’s a great cowboy game but it also has a surprisingly deep & emotional storyline when you really look at it
It’s on the list
I hope you get the chance to do some analysis on Breaking bad characters.
There was so much psychological aspects and scenes. You would have a field day
A BCS VID OMGGGG
Please make an analyse for kenobi too
The amount of detail in this show is astounding.
Would love to see you do some content on the sandman
OCD is rare to encounter on the street.
What should look for to spot it?🤔
just be patient with people when they stop or are taking long with things. They probably won't share but there are small signs of repetitive behaviour ordered behaviour and not touching things.
@@GeorgiaDow awsome 👍🙂
You should react to infinity train ,it's an incredibly show!! Especially the first season , it has a lot of elements of fantasy maybe but it would be nice to see you do it!!
Pudieras analizar a Jimmy? Gracias
yes I will =)
As destructive as Chuck’s hate was, it would have never been as bad if he would have gotten the help he needed. He was mentally ill and not acting entirely of his own volition. As painful as he was to Jimmy, he could have been healed and come to truly forgive and embrace his brother. But ya know, good tv 😢
could you please react to Big Hero 6, i know that it came out years ago but i think there's a lot of good info about grief in it.
@@ConsoleCombat Ok thanks for the suggestion! I kinda wanna put it off for now since I didn't watch season 4 yet
you got me thinking Georgia (as usual) - would you say that OCD is quite as common as people believe? because ever since the term OCD was publicised, a LOT of people have started saying "my OCDs have hit". naturally I do not expect you to say an overly generalised statement, such as "50% of people around the globe who claim to have OCD do not actually have it", I do not believe general statements like that to be beneficial. maybe a video on the topic in the future?
Your background is pretty
Interesting
I think Chuck has a Phobia, not OCD.
Chuck's a bit of an asshole but he wasn't a full on villain like say the Salamancas.
mhh I'm not sure that scene is suppose to be funny, is very tense.
Good I’m happy that no one else sees it that way. At least not my people : )
Hello cute psychologist. Can you fix OCD disorder?
I completely disagree that that scene was supposed to be comical. It came across as incredibly distressing.
The only reason people find it funny, other than the out of context look of someone wrapping themselves in a silvery blanket out in public.. is because people don't like the character of Chuck... they see him as an antagonist to our fave character of Jimmy/Saul. They don't have sympathy for him because he's been mean and subversive to Jimmy... so we will laugh at those who we may not normally make fun of, if we don't have a like for them.
rip chuck
You have small hands.
HAH thanks CL as always
Your are too shallow in this analyze
