That's very true ⭐

I have just found this channel and I think that it's a good source in order to learn english! Thank you very much!
But İ associate sadness with brown color, not blue. Blue is the sky, is river..is purity
Thank you
I was looking for something like this! Thanks for creating this content :).
Growing up, I was taught not to be down in the dumps, melancholy, grieve, or be fed up, and need to have a stiff upper lip, so every day, I was repressed.
Nice examples! We'd usually say 'be fed up'
@@bbclearningenglish Thank you, BBC Learning English! You guys are the best!❤

It is bad to repress your feelings, may lead to diseases..

I'm Japanese, and today's topic is quite interesting.
In terms of crying, it seems that Japanese and Brits have a similar tendency.
I'd like to avoid crying in front of people as much as possible.
In Italy, instead, when someone dies, it's common to express your sadness by crying, we don't pay someone to do that like in India, but we tend not to repress our feelings. Even when we meet a person we know, we tend to express our friendship by kissing or shaking hands

There are many words that describe sadness, such as melancholy, grief, sorrow, and depression, but they can have slightly different meanings. The way people express their emotions is also influenced by their culture. For example, in Irish culture, melancholy is often expressed through poems and songs, whereas in Japan, crying is seen as weak and shameful. Similarly, in the UK, many British people are not encouraged to express their sadness, and men often feel pressure to maintain a stiff upper lip and repress their emotions.
It's important to remember that hiding your true feelings won't make you happy. Instead, try making new friends and learning new things to help you feel better.
Many thanks for this video. Have a great weekend.

Depression is not a feeling, but a desease / a common mental disorder. Please kindly use that word in a correct context!
Depression is both.. Some people get depressed due to a long period of sadness and others get it due to health problems
Sadness is a feeling related to depression , but depression is a disease indeed which has different categories .
That's a very important distinction. 👍🏻
Remember it's spelt "DISEASE". I hope that helps! ⭐
i think language has dynamic meaning because there is a context in the first place. some words have same meaning but different in degree.

I totally agree with that video. People of each country express their feelings differently. I've heard that people In Russia hide their emotions when bad accident happen. However men did that. In my point of view expressing emotions depend on individual people too
Better to ask the Russians themselves.. 🙄It depends on everyone..
Hope for more intercultural contents, especially since there are many Englishes ❤️

Belonging from India 🇮🇳 as much as I know there are no mourners paid to cry over death
Exactly.. BBC learning English you are mistaken about India there is no mourners paid to cry over the death of anybody. They show their grief.
What about the link?
Does the answer appear in the newa?
There are so many expressions for the feeling sadness nowadays. The earliest way of describing the sad feeling is the phrase fed up. It is also important to notice that each culture in certain periods have distinctive ways to show sadness. In Victorian time, the British was to be the conquerer so they had to keep the stiff upper lip or in other words put up a brave front. However, this is an unhealthy pratice as it hinders emotion expressions, which later make someone feel repressed.
Although I often feel blue, I try to keep a stiff upper lip.I reckon, sometimes it's okay to repress the emotion of feeling down in the dumps😅
Amazing writing! Well done! ⭐
Well done for using some of the words/phrases from the episode!
