    Your video was a great help. Loved the vacuum cleaner draw string trick. Installed conduit and the drawstring some 20 metres from the utility box on the outer wall to my garage. NBN tech told me no one has ever installed conduit for any of the installs he has carried out. He said the day was a good day. Job done in less than 4 hours. Could not be happier.

    We’ll done. Love the vacuum idea sucking the line through…never thought of that. Makes things a lot simpler.

    The explanation of the conduit sizes was well received by me. I was looking and wondering why the sizes were all over the place.

      Delayed reply but I just found out this week why Telstra / NBN conduit is a weird size. It uses the same sizes as pressure plumbing pipe rather than the standard electrical / comms metric conduit size. Seems maybe they are based on old imperial sizes? Will figure it out eventually.

    • @iamdave84
      @iamdave84 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jim8395I thought the Telstra/NBN sizing was based in internal diameter, whereas the others are external. Even then, there are a few extra mms of space. Maybe the conduit walls were thicker back in the day and it was actually 20mm internal.

      Hey guys, any tips on what sort of glue to use? I've run the P20 conduit from side of the house to boundary of the property at 400mm deep. First NBN tech told me don't worry about glueing it but this comment section making me re-think it. Been waiting ages for appointment so prefer not to get knocked back.

    I’ve just had the FTTP guys out. They wouldn’t do anything. Won’t go on the roof, in the roof. We need to run conduit from one side of the house to the other side. No specs were provided on conduit size. No help was given, they just went away. A great start.

      @Mortjack 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@lauriannajones I ended up installing the conduit from one end of the house to the other with a pull string. I found comms conduit at Bunnings ~$4 per length. The FTTP NBN guys came back, and was told that the street conduit needed civil engineers to repair as they couldn’t get the fibre through. They did run fibre through my conduit though. When they left I discovered my FTTN connection didn’t work.. so had NO internet. Thankfully Aussie BB we’re awesome and got onto it and the Civil dudes turned up on a Saturday afternoon and got the fibre pulled through, and attempted to fix the FTTN connection but didn’t matter because I wanted FTTP. FTTN still didn’t function but FTTP has been working great since.

    Any tips for actually finding where the old copper conduit comes to? I've never had ADSL or FTTN at this home (on iiNet HFC, non-NBN). Will all houses have an underground conduit or am I on a wild goose chase?

    • @TwistedVisionsPtyLtd
      @TwistedVisionsPtyLtd ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Properties will have either an aerial drop cable that comes in via the power poles, or underground via a lead-in conduit (LIC).
      A lot of the older inner city suburbs may only have a 10mm LIC as it was the standard 60+ years ago. A lot of LIC’s just go directly under the house and aren’t visible from the outside.
      The majority will be run to the side of your property, look at your property on either side and the one that you can see will usually mean that yours will be on that side too.

    • @zanetaylor8803
      @zanetaylor8803 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depending on who’s running cable will either tie jet line (string) certain way with heap of electrical tape or use a hauling sock and still use heap load of duct tape to secure sock on cable and heap to secure jet line to sock.

    • @zanetaylor8803

      Don't expect the NBN with these FTTP upgrades to locate the NBN NCD to your preferred location as they can be time consuming and expensive, they will likely put it at the most coinvent location for themself. You can arrange to have the correct conduit/bends/amount of bends installed if you want the NBN NCD in some other location.

      Hi mate, thanks for your comment. It is NBN conduit as it is made for there specs. Comms conduit is same size dimension as electrical conduit. NBN conduit is different and is labelled and sold as NBN conduit from the wholesaler. I guess it is comms conduit but if everyone calls in NBN conduit including the people making it, I would say it is NBN conduit!
