16kms from a major cbd and I get 35/7 on a good day. Internet speeds are a joke here - you just have to look where we sit on the global rankings! ....and my plan is about to go up in price!
As mattyb says, just look at the global rankings. Even if you're lucky enough to be on fibre the upstream is a joke; cut from 500mbps to 50! How will we ever offer anything innovative online without fast upstream?
87% of houses have fibre to the home with the standard plan is 300/100 or you can get 1000/500 like I have or if your in a certain part of major cities you can get 2000/2000, 4000/4000 or 8000/8000….. pricing is around 75-80$ for the 300 Mbps plan
Awesome video my friend. Just about to have this work done also and it was great to see how it is done. looks like I need to do some pre-work to ensure the fibre inside the house is routed where I want it.
Agreat handy video, just the one I'VE been looking for, having NBN in tomorrow to do the change over and as a retired electrician I had a 1000 questions and they have nearly all been answered here thank you
Great video thank you im excitedd for my upgrade in 2 days i just hope they can do it before the end of the day. Orange rope is there mines just going on the other side
Thanks for posting this video and the for commentary. My install is schedule for today and I've received almost no information as to what's involved. I'm confident my FTTP upgrade is about as simple as it gets. Hopefully I don't get stuffed around with multiple visits because someone only does half a job.
@@allelectricalau they've cancelled on me twice (with no cancellation sent). I'm currently waiting for my third appointment. Like you, I ran rope and conduit to my network gear, hoping for a fast install on the day.
Great video and good information. I'm looking to move back to Australia and one of the things I will have to get use to is the slower internet speeds! I will definitely check my potential home for this upgrade. You're upgraded speeds is still slower than my current speeds but shouldnt be too bad 😁
A question for you, did you notice if they cleaned the fibre connectors before they got plugged in? 🤔 I see you are getting a ping of 9ms but I get that on FTTN with speeds of around 105/23 so it should be much lower like about 3ms. Thanks for the video, I'm due for upgrade in a few days, hope they don't cancel on me 😜
Hey mate no they didn't clean the fibre during the cleaver stage. I ended up buying the sc connecter cleaning pen and cleaned it myself after they left.
@@allelectricalau Really? Can you go into further detail what you did here? I'm a bit scared to touch my newly install fibre cable but I would like to know how to check if it's not clean at the end.
Where i live it’s mainly non experienced installers who have completed some course, one told me they get $300 per install, need 3 per day to make it pay…
according to NBN, for the public health and safety, when you are hauling the cable, you need to barricade all the working areas with cones and tiger tiles. big defect when the supervisor comes on site. they will make it very big issue for you
Unfortunately if you live in a S.A housing trust block of units they run it down the driveway and just leave the copper wiring and connect to that instead to the unit.
Hello. I am going to do the same. I want to install my NTD on a brick wall so not quite as easy! I was ondering how big of a hole I need for the fibre cable to come through? Is the green connector pre - terminated please? Thanks!
What's your honest estimate of all the cost to go from 100 down to 223 down? eg: as an Electrician what would you have charged to install that conduit and what was the RSP plan increase change per month?
It's crazy to me how many people in Australia (myself included) are still not using full fibre. In my case it's only Fibre to the Node and I'm way too far from the Node to get speeds beyond what ADSL 2 was giving. I was complaining about my internet speed back in 2014 and 10 years later it's barely any better than it was.
That would mean that the copper from the node to your house is either poor quality, in poor condition or has bad connections somewhere. You may be able to get your ISP to check the connection points for faults. If there is no fault then you may get charged for a technicians time. If there is a fault outside your property limits then you won't get charged. I had a problem with reducing speed and dropouts on FTTN a couple of years ago. After calling iinet tech support a number of times I got them to do 2 or 3 checks on my connection. Finally they found an issue with my copper connection at the node where a previous technician had compromised while working on another job. They fixed it up and I went from 33Mbps to 100Mbps and had no more dropouts. I believe that in Australia that if your speed is below 25Mbps then it falls below a minimum standard and your ISP can be compelled to fix it or find a better solution. I forget where I read that, unfortunately.
I see your upload speed is a little slower than with the old connection. That surprises me as a lot of users need higher upload speed to upload videos to TH-cam etc. You haven't really gained anything with the upload speed and your previous download speed at around 100Mbps was pretty good for most usage: you won't really notice much difference with the download speed as at 100Mbps most stuff would load almost immediately anyway. Playing games of course might be an advantage.
Original Labour plan was Fibre to the Premises all the way. Then Liberal got elected and it changed to FTTC because FTTP will cost too much according to them. Forward to 2023, pretty sure it is costing much more now to upgrade most household to FTTP.
@@gerardy7500that’s why I’m never voting LNP again. It’s stifled growth, productivity and hours of pain uploading documents. Sometimes my uploads take days! We all deserve fibre and better upload speeds.
Those AFL connectors putting fusion splicers on the shelf, it's funny how these companies take advantage of the resident not knowing anything about acceptance loss. I figured you lost about minimum .4 dB possibly .6, the contamination was all over plus a good tech would have cleaned out the bulkhead before insertion, regardless. If he had burned on pigtails, could have been less loss, around .2dB, it depends on what kind of upload application you are needing at the residence, so for every 1dB loss is 20%. I did not see what the power meter was reading but a good tech would have had OTDR and calculated all the loss for you to the NBN. Some facilities would never allow those AFL connectors, it's residential so, the hell do they know, If you are paying for that drop, 100% I am sure you not getting the full benefit of that SM.
I agree with you mate i will be getting the join outside fusion spliced with the manufacturer pigtale to reduce the loss. It kept dropping out due to contamination of the connector endfaces. The click clean pen fixed most of it still can be improved.
Depends on the contractor to a large extent; the blokes who did our place just before Christmas were happy to grub around under the house to run the fibre all the way over to our home office!
Ouch, 26ms ping on FTTP, Just waiting for FTTP activation my physical install was finished an hour ago. My FTTN ping was 8ms, hoping FTTP ping is better than that (gamer household)

I can't believe that your NBN provided uostreams are only 25mbit on a 250mbit plan. In NZ and the US they're symmetrical for most ISPs.
