  • I started on what was formerly known as the "Yellow Garden" in early September, and began working on the backside of the garden to get it all planted up before the winter. I still have a few more items to place in the garden, but it's surely coming along.

    Little Bluestem is a great native grass. Blue with red hue in fall. Stunning. You can just saw the Switchgrass to divide. I use old kitchen knife.

    I'm in Missouri & would love to find more types of plants like you are using. May I ask, where do you find & order those plants. I have a hard time finding diverse range of plants. Thank you for your time.

    I have found that pollinators still love the regular coneflower hybrids. I don’t like the “double” petalled coneflowers anyway.

    The heathers are already gorgeous! I hope you'll specifically point out these new plants as they bloom next year. I would have liked to see more of the pollinator garden, the annual garden (food!) and the herb garden (also, the orchard ?) this year. Have I missed some episodes? Also, do you use the large lake? Paddle board something?

    You can cut back ‘sneeze weed’ and it will stay shorter and bush out.

    Good Morning, I have so much planting to do and came down with a cold yesterday…Hoping it’s better in a couple days 🤞so for now watching you is perfect. ’m curious as to where you are able to purchase all the small plants because perennials can be expensive. I bought myself a beautiful sneezeweed for my birthday at the beginning of the month very similar to yours if not the same. Right now I have it in a container with tiny marigolds and a baby pumpkin. I’ll be adding it to my garden…I love it. I have so many plants and gardens that I rarely purchase plants plus…😊 I’m very frugal. I love seed propagation and I decided to try and winter sow yarrow from JS organic yarrow seed called favorite berries…so we don’t know the color no blooms this year, but my thought was they would blend into the garden because the color in the picture was rather neutral. I have planted the small plants here and there 🤔 after listening to your take on yarrow I’m a little confused…bad idea? Sounds like you are almost thinking of them as a weed. I thought they might be easy and I am really looking for less maintenance as I get on in years. I didn’t have any yarrow and crazy as it is I have never purchased an aster. 💚👩‍🌾🎃 Enjoy the warm weekend! 🙏

      Yarrow definitely self-seeds very readily. If you want to keep it more tidy, you will need to cut the flower/seed heads off before that happens. I use it medicinally, so just have a large area where it can do what it wants if I don't get to harvesting all of it. Perhaps some of the cultivars don't self-seed so readily - Summer would know.

    Question. If you plant in the fall and the plant goes dormant quite quickly, do the roots still grow?

    • @loue6563
      @loue6563 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      As long as you give the plants enough time to get a little acclimated they should be fine and as the weather gets cooler and the sunlight hours decrease it signals to the plants to start sending their energy back into the roots so they can survive the winter and have enough to begin growing again in the spring.

    Noticing that the birds will not eat the seeds of several of my newer varieties of echanacea. Guess I will keep all of my old ones even though I liked the idea of shorter ones.

    So you plant heuchorellas with heathers, is it ok with the acidity of the soil?

  • @demontea7235

    Dianthus fire star would really also pull in well with the fescue and artemisia. Kaleidoscope abelia, sunshine daydream abelia would compliment with the colors of the Heather

      Oh also yarrow moonshine could look nice with the other plants too

    Something that would be really interesting to watch is a business model walk through, profit/loss/expenses and how you manage to do all this work. I assume you have partnerships with schools and get money from the TH-cam videos.
