  • In this episode, I decided to pot up my big boxwood. With some new buds just starting to push out on this one, I figured it would be an excellent time to get it into its first bonsai pot.

Wow, I can soo relate to your comments about it being nice to have time to look at trees and not have people look at you weird for digging into the pot, etc! Ha! Nice video, looking good! Was just looking at some boxwoods today.

Their roots are truly crazy. I repotted mine this season too. I was amazed at the roots it put on. I’ve always thought boxwoods made great bonsai material. Yours looks great. Thanks, keep growing

I love boxwoods for the reason that they grow beautiful root bases there already radial. Great tree Dave thanks for another great video

    Holy moley, those roots!!
I am digging the holes at the root flair. Like critters have burrowed under there.
(Why trim the roots out of the hole if you want the hole filled in?)
This tree is going to be killer! Thank you for sharing brother.

Yeah, soon as I cut the one, my mind said oh, shoot, wouldn’t that fill the whole? I think I must have thought it would grow in weird.

@@DavesBonsai how has your big boxwood responded to the spring work? And how has it done with your heat wave this summer? If it was covered in you summer update videos, I must have missed it.

Dave, what's the name of that nursery? I'm always looking for hidden gems around Minnesota.

Just watched your boxwood video again. Today I brought in from my unheated glass porch a beautiful , beautiful boxwood with probably as large a trunk as the one in your video, checked on the previously wired branches (it is still in the nursery pot) I did trim off several ends of branches, and I put it back outside in the porch. Was that the wrong thing to do, trimming the branches? Should I bring it in, and keep it in a cooler bedroom room with my other chinese elms?

I think of you prune away too many buds that might have formed it could slow dusk thus years growth a bit. But I’m not 100% sure on that. I just make sure I’m only cutting g those branches I know for sure I’ll not want.
