He's always been in her life. Plus he was literally the only person there to support me when my middle daughter passed away. Came to her viewing and the funeral the next day.
I was 16 years old in a small Texas town. She was also 16. My parents forbade me from seeing her, she was Mexican you see and in the 1950's Texas it was Taboo to date out of race. Soon after our forced break up I joined the military and her family moved back to Mexico. 20 years later while on vacation in Mexico, I saw a beautiful Latina selling seashells on the beach as I approached her, my heart sunk and I almost fainted, it was Maria, the girl I once loved. She smiled and started to weep. As luck would have it, neither of us were married at the time. A year later we were married and we now have 6 children and 12 grandkids! This song reminds me of our love. True love is real under the stars.
January 17, 2024 marked 23 years since the love of my life passed away. We were 19 and she had been waiting for a lung transplant when she went into kidney failure. I was 2 states away when her mother called me from the hospital and said “talk to her, it’s likely the last time. She can’t speak but she’s coherent.” I told her not to be scared because God and heaven are waiting for you when you close your eyes. I told her how much I loved her and I’ll see her again someday. Then she was gone. This song brings back so much and I have to fight from breaking down. But in the sadness I also find joy in the memories I have with her. I've spent the last two years grief stricken wondering what might have been. This was always my favorite Little Texas song, but now even more so. I'm just now seeing an end to the darkness and beginning to feel alive again. This song still breaks my heart, but in a different, gentler way. Perhaps I too may love again.
I had a friend of exactly the same, retirement was just around the corner and she was gone. All their planning out the window. I turned 65 and my sister forced me to get my SS. I'm glad she did because everything I planned for the next 10 years came tumbling down. While that is not the loss of a loved one, the dreams I worked for had been shattered. Take care, my friend.

Met her when I was 17 one summer and fell in love. She moved to New York with her family. Then, 5 years later, we crossed paths in my town but stayed together for only a short time. She had to go away and take care of her sick father. Years passed and no word. Finally, I let her go and I moved on but only in my mind and not my heart. 26 years would come and go before I would once again see her beautiful face. Fate once again would bring us together and this time forever. Although we missed a lot of years our hearts never forgot and when we met again 5 years ago, it was like we had never been parted. Now, we are to marry next year and it is both a blessing and a miracle that we ended up with each other.

I think everyone has that one person, and you just wonder....20 years, 30 years, those memories don't go away when they are that big an impact on your life. Somewhere deep inside, you always hope that life will bring you back around again, but the chances of that happening are slim, and being the same people you were back then, even slimmer. But it doesn't mean that you don't hope for it, just the same.

...I'm a 33 year old guy, and in my humble opinion, for reasons I cant explain, this is one of the saddest songs I know and has bought me to tears more then once.
For years this song haunted my childhood sweetheart and I. Through all of our adult life this one made both of us think of each other. Neither of us can tell you how many tears this song created for us. As years went by the words of this song even caused anxiety and anger. You see, our story is one of true love that lasted beyond 25 years, four failed marriages, three children, and a distance of more than a thousand miles. When i was 16 I moved to a small town in northern Michigan, known as the city that steers the world, and i began high school. In the hallways in between classes I'd hear this contagious laugh that I had to seek out. Turns out that laugh came from a very beautiful blonde girl. I knew I had to get to know her. I would see her coming to a gas station where I worked after school all the time. Finally I was brave enough to open the door to the store for her, kind of as to say hi, and be a gentleman. She was overwhelmed by this act of kindness and gave me the most beautiful silent smile I'd ever seen. That one act, small as it was, captured her heart forever. We began to go steady for a while and our feelings became so strong we couldn't contain them in a very short time. Sadly for our love she didn't know she was with child at the time. Upon that discovery she had to break up with me and go to her child's father, with whom she gave him two more children over a few years. Our feelings for one another NEVER went away, but for the respect of her children and her husband I left her and moved far away. I got married to someone I didn't know, stayed married for 22 years, unhappily. Finally divorced, I moved back home to that small town. Chances were, I met up with my long lost childhood sweetheart and it was like we'd always been together. Our hearts were still joined as if we'd been re- invited to live our teenage years all over again. Turns out she was divorced as well and her children had grown and moved out to live their own lives. We realized then and still today that we are soulmates who were meant to find each other and be together forever. We knew we were still in love after 25 years of being apart, and decided to waste no more years and became a couple right away. While traveling through Illinois to see Ulyses S. Grants' estate, the gps took us to a wedding chapel instead of his estate. We took it as a signed and was married in that town two hours later. We discovered that our destination was only a few doors down from the wedding chapel, and so we toured the Grant estate right after saying our vows. This year we will celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary and hope to have many more still ahead of us. We kinda have a relationship with this song like few others. Today there's no heartache when we hear this song, we just smile, and feel our love all over again. She has blessed us with sharing her children with me and her two grandchildren. I've since grown to love her children as my own even though they are adults. And the bond we share with the grandchildren is one that is forged in stone. Thank you little texas, for bringing a love story to life for couples like us. WE ARE HAPPY TO SAY WE FOUND OUT WHAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN...
It's been almost 30 years since I saw him. We lived thousands of miles apart from each other so unless I went home I couldn't see him. There was no cell phone or internet back then but I don't know if that would have made any difference. It was complicated. I can still remember what he looked like and all the good times we had together. I loved the song when it came out simply because it's a great song and now I can really relate to this song.

She is a civil engineer and business major graduate...son is an electrician, other daughter calls me dad and manages an imort business jetting around the USA. I LOVE THIS SONG . Feels like it was written for us. I played guitar my whole life. I often play it. But get choked up and can never finish it. Lol❤ true love is hard to stop.

Yes we all have that one!! Mine was two though lol!! The first one was my first love and I was a senior in high school and we got engaged for 4months and then we got broken up because of something she did under the influence that we couldn’t stay together afterwards. I left for boot camp 4 months later. We tried to get back together after I got out of the military but it just wasn’t the right timing. So 20 years later I ran into her and the timing was perfect and we went really slow trying to get back together but we gradually talked less as time and life went on. Almost a year after that she overdosed on fentanyl and she passed away. I think about her every now and then. She’ll always be special to me in my heart and she is the reason that I came to church and found God and I got saved and baptized. I know she is in heaven and she didn’t mean to overdose it was accidental. Anyway I will always remember her and have her in my heart and never forget her. We all miss you Melissa!!!

The way this well crafted music video unfolds into a meaningful story adds an enhanced and heart string pulling twist. I confess that this song put me in my feels emotionally this morning after unexpectedly hearing it play when it did.
After both of lives turned into war stories with our past relationships, my true love, Rhonda Sue, who I cared for more than anyone was three grades behind me upon my Graduation and enlistment in the US Navy. We have been reunited and my world has wonderfully changed!
Just like many of you, it's so hard when a song relates to your life so strongly that you wonder about the "what ifs" and what they might of been like. Mine I met online at the age of 17. Spent one night together, one of the best nights and then we never talked again. Come to find out he tried looking for me at my work and I had moved on to somewhere else. I tried looking for him where he lived and he had moved on. Fate kept stepping in and telling us no. Years after I married a wonderful man, 3 kids and a life I love, he married and has 2 kids and a life he loves. We both ran into each other in a town neither of us live in, got coffee and talked about how our one night changed our hearts. If there is anything like a strong connection and love at first sight I can vouch for it and say it happens and it's real. We both agreed we will never know...what might of been. That feeling of seeing him again after almost 17 years was undeniably stronger than ever. Life has a funny way of working your life out.

Cherish each other everyday! My high school love and I also split back in the late 90’s. Although we stayed in touch consistently since then and he would always let me know he loved me. I loved him too but I made different choices. We would’ve been together 32 years, I was 12 and he was 15. There were a few times sprinkled in those passing years that we got close to talking about getting back together. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2019. "Half the time thinking about what might have been and the other half thinking maybe it's just as well". Sad that it works out that way nearly all the time, but sometimes it ends like this video did. I actually have a friend who's first two wives passed away and eventually married his high school sweetheart who had lost her husband of 40 yrs.
Living in the past is never good. Remembering the past is healthy. But dwelling on "what might have been" for too long can drive you too far. From experience here myself.
I didn't have to find out "what might have been" I married the love of my life almost 33 years ago. And I thank God everyday I did. I almost lost her last year to pancreatitis-sepsis etc. It took a lot from both of us. But we're stronger and more in love from it all. I could go on and on. But so grateful for the time we had, he has since passed away and so did my hubby of 49 yrs. True love doesn't die, still in my heart.

I was at work one day and my manager told me I had a call a few days before from a John and he left his number. I knew instantly who it was and when I called and heard his voice my heart sank just like the first time I saw him. We have 3 kids now and have been married almost 13 years. He's always been in her life. Plus he was literally the only person there to support me when my middle daughter passed away. Came to her viewing and the funeral the next day.
I was 16 years old in a small Texas town. She was also 16. My parents forbade me from seeing her, she was Mexican you see and in the 1950's Texas it was Taboo to date out of race. Soon after our forced break up I joined the military and her family moved back to Mexico. 20 years later while on vacation in Mexico, I saw a beautiful Latina selling seashells on the beach as I approached her, my heart sunk and I almost fainted, it was Maria, the girl I once loved. She smiled and started to weep. As luck would have it, neither of us were married at the time. A year later we were married and we now have 6 children and 12 grandkids! This song reminds me of our love. True love is real under the stars.

January 17, 2024 marked 23 years since the love of my life passed away. We were 19 and she had been waiting for a lung transplant when she went into kidney failure. I was 2 states away when her mother called me from the hospital and said “talk to her, it’s likely the last time. She can’t speak but she’s coherent.” I told her not to be scared because God and heaven are waiting for you when you close your eyes. I told her how much I loved her and I’ll see her again someday. Then she was gone. This song brings back so much and I have to fight from breaking down. But in the sadness I also find joy in the memories I have with her. Life is so precious and truly God loves us and it’s amazing. RIP Sarah

I'm just now seeing an end to the darkness and beginning to feel alive again. This song still breaks my heart, but in a different, gentler way. Perhaps I too may love again.

I had a friend of exactly the same, retirement was just around the corner and she was gone. All their planning out the window. I turned 65 and my sister forced me to get my SS. I'm glad she did because everything I planned for the next 10 years came tumbling down. While that is not the loss of a loved one, the dreams I worked for had been shattered. Take care, my friend.

Met her when I was 17 one summer and fell in love. She moved to New York with her family. Then, 5 years later, we crossed paths in my town but stayed together for only a short time. She had to go away and take care of her sick father. Years passed and no word. Finally, I let her go and I moved on but only in my mind and not my heart. 26 years would come and go before I would once again see her beautiful face. Fate once again would bring us together and this time forever. Although we missed a lot of years our hearts never forgot and when we met again 5 years ago, it was like we had never been parted. Now, we are to marry next year and it is both a blessing and a miracle that we ended up with each other.

What a great song.....what else is there to say? I married the girl next door - we met when we were both eight. We didn't marry until were both 63. I had been in a terrible marriage and her husband had passed away. We often wish we had started earlier.....but maybe, for some cosmic reason, it had to be this way. I love you more than the stars, Linda - these have been the best seven years of my life.
I am actually back with that one that has crossed my mind many times for over 30 years now. We are very much in love and going to build our lives together. This is edited. He passed away Aug 2nd due to heart complications after open heart surgery. But we still have they greatest love story. And we always will. For years this song haunted my childhood sweetheart and I.
Through all of our adult life this one made both of us think of each other. Neither of us can tell you how many tears this song created for us. As years went by the words of this song even caused anxiety and anger.
You see, our story is one of true love that lasted beyond 25 years, four failed marriages, three children, and a distance of more than a thousand miles.
When i was 16 I moved to a small town in northern Michigan, known as the city that steers the world, and i began high school. In the hallways in between classes I'd hear this contagious laugh that I had to seek out. Turns out that laugh came from a very beautiful blonde girl. I knew I had to get to know her.
I would see her coming to a gas station where I worked after school all the time. Finally I was brave enough to open the door to the store for her, kind of as to say hi, and be a gentleman. She was overwhelmed by this act of kindness and gave me the most beautiful silent smile I'd ever seen. That one act, small as it was, captured her heart forever.
We began to go steady for a while and our feelings became so strong we couldn't contain them in a very short time. Sadly for our love she didn't know she was with child at the time. Upon that discovery she had to break up with me and go to her child's father, with whom she gave him two more children over a few years.
Our feelings for one another NEVER went away, but for the respect of her children and her husband I left her and moved far away.
I got married to someone I didn't know, stayed married for 22 years, unhappily. Finally divorced, I moved back home to that small town.
Chances were, I met up with my long lost childhood sweetheart and it was like we'd always been together. Our hearts were still joined as if we'd been re- invited to live our teenage years all over again. Turns out she was divorced as well and her children had grown and moved out to live their own lives.
We realized then and still today that we are soulmates who were meant to find each other and be together forever. We knew we were still in love after 25 years of being apart, and decided to waste no more years and became a couple right away.
While traveling through Illinois to see Ulyses S. Grants' estate, the gps took us to a wedding chapel instead of his estate. We took it as a signed and was married in that town two hours later. We discovered that our destination was only a few doors down from the wedding chapel, and so we toured the Grant estate right after saying our vows.
This year we will celebrate our 3 year wedding anniversary and hope to have many more still ahead of us.
We kinda have a relationship with this song like few others. Today there's no heartache when we hear this song, we just smile, and feel our love all over again.
She has blessed us with sharing her children with me and her two grandchildren. I've since grown to love her children as my own even though they are adults. And the bond we share with the grandchildren is one that is forged in stone.
Thank you little texas, for bringing a love story to life for couples like us.

It's been almost 30 years since I saw him. We lived thousands of miles apart from each other so unless I went home I couldn't see him. There was no cell phone or internet back then but I don't know if that would have made any difference. It was complicated. I can still remember what he looked like and all the good times we had together. I loved the song when it came out simply because it's a great song and now I can really relate to this song.

I had already bought her a promise ring.. we were going to marry after college. We got separated, she in Texas, I traveled the world with the airlines. My 1 try at marriage didn't work.
27 years later, she found me on FB. Both were single... she had 3 relationships with 3 men. All 3 lasting less then 3 years.. She had become a Doctor. We talked on the phone. I jumped in my plane...flew to Austin and we have been married 16 years now. This song always reminded me of our story. The best part was meeting up with her dad again and saying to him, "I'm not asking for your daughters hand in marriage again. I'm TELLING you, we're getting married." 😅 ❤ We missed so much together. I had no children... she 3 raised all as a single mom. Still had my promise ring!!
Her youngest was 13 when we got back.. She is a civil engineer and business major graduate...son is an electrician, other daughter calls me dad and manages an imort business jetting around the USA. I LOVE THIS SONG . Feels like it was written for us. I played guitar my whole life. I often play it. But get choked up and can never finish it. Lol❤ true love is hard to stop.

Yes we all have that one!! Mine was two though lol!! The first one was my first love and I was a senior in high school and we got engaged for 4months and then we got broken up because of something she did under the influence that we couldn’t stay together afterwards. I left for boot camp 4 months later. We tried to get back together after I got out of the military but it just wasn’t the right timing. So 20 years later I ran into her and the timing was perfect and we went really slow trying to get back together but we gradually talked less as time and life went on. Almost a year after that she overdosed on fentanyl and she passed away. I think about her every now and then. She’ll always be special to me in my heart and she is the reason that I came to church and found God and I got saved and baptized. I know she is in heaven and she didn’t mean to overdose it was accidental. Anyway I will always remember her and have her in my heart and never forget her. We all miss you Melissa!!!

Just like many of you, it's so hard when a song relates to your life so strongly that you wonder about the "what ifs" and what they might of been like. Mine I met online at the age of 17. Spent one night together, one of the best nights and then we never talked again. Come to find out he tried looking for me at my work and I had moved on to somewhere else. I tried looking for him where he lived and he had moved on. Fate kept stepping in and telling us no. Years after I married a wonderful man, 3 kids and a life I love, he married and has 2 kids and a life he loves. We both ran into each other in a town neither of us live in, got coffee and talked about how our one night changed our hearts. If there is anything like a strong connection and love at first sight I can vouch for it and say it happens and it's real. We both agreed we will never know...what might of been. That feeling of seeing him again after almost 17 years was undeniably stronger than ever. Life has a funny way of working your life out.

This song described my life for almost 30 years, having split with my first love after high school. We contacted each other at random times, but it was never to be. Until 2007, when we were able to reunite. Now 8 years later, I finally married my sweetheart! Storybook endings sometimes happen! Love you Dixie!
Cherish each other everyday! My high school love and I also split back in the late 90’s. Although we stayed in touch consistently since then and he would always let me know he loved me. I loved him too but I made different choices. We would’ve been together 32 years, I was 12 and he was 15. There were a few times sprinkled in those passing years that we got close to talking about getting back together. He was killed in a motorcycle accident in 2019. Every single day I live with the regret and the what if’s. I love and miss him so much, I can’t wait to see him again someday!! I hope y’all are both still together! Back in December 2019 I got reunited with a friend of mine who I haven't seen in 34 years, every time I would hear this song I would think about him and wonder what happened to him but now he's back in my life and I'm never going to let him go. Cathy, I think about this scenario often and come to the same conclusion Harry Chapin did at the end of "Sequel". "Half the time thinking about what might have been and the other half thinking maybe it's just as well".
Sad that it works out that way nearly all the time, but sometimes it ends like this video did. I actually have a friend who's first two wives passed away and eventually married his high school sweetheart who had lost her husband of 40 yrs.
Living in the past is never good. Remembering the past is healthy. But dwelling on "what might have been" for too long can drive you too far. From experience here myself.
I didn't have to find out "what might have been" I married the love of my life almost 33 years ago. And I thank God everyday I did. I almost lost her last year to pancreatitis-sepsis etc. It took a lot from both of us. But we're stronger and more in love from it all. I could go on and on. Because more things happened after she got over the worse part of the ordeal. I hope we have many more years left together. Thanks Paula for being my love of my life. Happy Valentine's day

I found what might have been after 22 years, we both had families, didn't want to hurt anyone. Shared love for 8 years, then his entire family wanted to move to another state, I had to live with it. But so grateful for the time we had, he has since passed away and so did my hubby of 49 yrs. True love doesn't die, still in my heart.

Lost the only one I ever truly loved 50 yrs ago...always dream about what might have been but I know its not healthy to be sad and live in the past. My high school sweetheart and I were together for 3 years and our parents forbade us to speak to each other anymore. After sneaking around as long as we could we finally went our separate ways, but only temporarily. I was at work one day and my manager told me I had a call a few days before from a John and he left his number. I knew instantly who it was and when I called and heard his voice my heart sank just like the first time I saw him. We have 3 kids now and have been married almost 13 years. Love always brings back what's meant to be ❤
I met the love of my life in Jan 1982 at Fort Sam. We got separated by the Army & lost touch. In 2010 she found me on Facebook. We got married in 2011. Things have a way of working themselves out! If it's meant to be it will happen.

That was then and we 100% took different roads... How I wish sometimes we had taken the road that led us down life's path together. Was never meant to be.

We fell in love in 1973 as teenagers..broke up in 1976, it was devastating for both of us...over forty years later he looked me up on Facebook and we got back together...he was my first love and i told him he would be my last love. He had lung cancer while we were together...not quite a year but i thank Jesus for putting us together until his death in Feb.We were meant to be together forever and we always knew it and i can't wait to be with him again....i love you forever and a day Paul!

It’s 2024, still love this song. It took me back to 1990 when desert storm was just starting. His initial is ESP. We’re both Taurus ♉ haha. First love, there’s no forgetting it. I still remember everything about him including his silver Nissan truck haha. I do wonder if I ever cross his mind.
