Hey Steve, you were asking in your last video how your new viewers came across your stuff… I’m 51 years old and I have been a lifelong Peterbilt 352/362 fanatic. I like the 359s and the 379s as well, but nothing in my opinion looks as nice as a cabover. While I greatly appreciate the caterpillar 3406, my dream truck would be a ‘73 352 with a Detroit 12V71 in it. I watch a lot of Ol2Stroker’s (Wayne’s) videos…lately, Wayne has been bringing home several new 12V71 Petes to work on, so I’m thinking the algorithm is what led me to your channel, and I have to say I absolutely love the content. What I love even more is that you are a great family man and what you did for your son and your daughter-in-law is what I would’ve done for my daughter and my son-in-law. I’m glad I found your channel and I’m sticking around, especially if old Orwell can climb those Colorado mountains the way it did, man you are one helluva driver. It’s nice to see somebody who gives a damn about doing things right.
Thank you for always keeping your videos real. Appreciate all the stuff you show us and the lessons you teach. Hope that Jen is doing good? Haven't seen or heard of her in a little bit now. Safe travels and keep on trucking.
70 in the winter was no freaking joke. I ran it twice in the winter both times heading to California from the Midwest and only because 80 was closed due to high winds in Wyoming. I snuck through Ike and Vail both times without needing chains.
Those new Firestones are a good looking tire. I used to run on the same tire way back when, and from what I can see they kept the same tread pattern as well.
About 20 years ago, i was driving on either i80 or i88, don't remember but i was heading eb to Chicago for a delivery. It was a Volvo pulling a loaded 53ft van trailer. The whole interstate was covered with snow. I was only able to see the road by staying in the tire tracks. Not a good situation for a southerner like myself. I somehow managed to do ok. That said, i did stop at a truck stop to call it a night where my rig was basically ice skating in the parking lot.
I know you have no control over things, Steve, but you would think Aspen Airport would arrange for snow ploughs to be delivered before winter - say autumn at the very latest! Anyway, take it easy and stay safe!!
Suggest LED headlights upgrade. Greetings from Colorado Springs, CO. Been driving my 45ft diesel RV we use for trade shows across I70 in the snow for many years and even spent the night atop Vail Pass with other truckers as they closed the pass and we had to pull over. Plenty diesel and lp for the furnace kept toasty warm. Made fresh hot coffee and plenty of food for the other truckers.
Having been through a few Pennsylvania, and Buffalo/Rochester blizzards, plus those grades,I can appreciate the Colorado ones,as they are twice as steep, and several times longer! The railroad grades, aren't any better, and they were there, before the Interstates! Congratulations on a one extra rough road trip! Happy New Year, and extremely belated Merry Christmas! You always put a lot of yourself, out for others, and most don't get the stress, and anxiety, and pressure, that 60 decisions a minute, can give a trucker! Thank you,Steve, and forgive my hyperbole! Thank you 😇 😊! P.S.How's your nephew?? That type of trip, would been a dream fulfilled!! Thank you 😇 😊!
I'm gonna step out on a limb and say it's probably not a real good sign when you are on the road pretty much all by yourself in a snow storm. Pretty Christmas trees at about the 5:30 mark. That Green APU has paid you huge dividends.
Snow driving is really stressful l at night . I did it in italy when i was in the air force . I operated a d6 cable blade cat dozer .the site was 6700 feet on top os a mountain .we cleared the site road all 8 miles .
Back in the 70s I was running sleeper team for Widing Transportation driving a tanker. Running from Richmond Ca yard to Portland and turn around. I also was driving tankers caesural for Allen Transportation from Richmond to LA. With 9 hour say over in their apartment in LA. I got home from LA and the wife said Widing called for a Portland run. I was home long enough to take a shower and headed back out to the yard. So my team driver was a new guy and it was his first day. So I drove the rig out on the first part of the trip. We got to Willows about four hours in. I stop at a little restaurant on Hiway 5 that was setup the handle trucks. I had been up around 15 hours so I filled out one of the three logbooks so I looked legal. I turned the truck over to the other driver and jumped in the sleeper. About three hours later he woke up to tell me it was snowing. I said its winter and it snows in these mountains. That is when he told me he never drove in the snow. I said how did you get hired? You have to have Ice and show experience. He said he lied. So I said I guess that makes me the instructor. I never said anything to the bosses the guy had to support his family and it wasn't any skin off my nose. I was glad he told me before we both found ourselves up side down in a ditch. So I got in the jump seat and he learned how to drive a tanker in the snow. We had three more passes that all get snow ahead of us. He also got to experience black ice. The thought ran through my head to tell him I never drove in the snow either. But it would have freckled him out. Lucky I had many miles running up and down the west coast and lots of miles in the snow. My dad taught me.
I was the first to arrive at a winter ice and snow accident. It was very 🥶 cold. I got the driver in my cab to keep him warm. Till he got a recovery truck to him. I was west of Aspen. Maybe 50 miles. Thumbs up 👍
Johnson Bar isn't one I've heard. We always called them a Trolley Brake. Boy, running Eisenhower, Donner etc and chaining a truck for several years is why when I saw the sign "Chain Law In Effect" I just started turning around and waiting it out especially Donner. Stupid drivers there. That's bad road, be safe out there.
Please give us an inventory of special items needed for winter travel. Some carry kitty litter and bleach. Blankets and extra food and water sound good. The patent also described how this process was intended to combat global warming by creating clouds - a phenomenon I’m sure you’ve seen and are familiar with yourself.
