Im 46. I’ve been getting more into cream blush and bronzer. I love the Chanel cream bronzer and Rare Beauty liquid blush. I have to use an under eye primer of some kind before I apply concealer. I never use foundation under the eye!! I apply a thin layer of the Bobbi Brown vitamin enriched eye base, let it sink in for a few minutes then apply concealer. Another tip is a dewy setting spray! Can you review Laura Gellar, please? I keep seeing ads & people my age raving about it. If anyone in the comments has used it, Id appreciate your opinions, as well. Thanks for another great video Marlena! You are awesome!
I have recently switched to powder foundation now that my skin is changing (almost 40) and I happen to love the Laura Gellar powder foundation. I have combo skin and an oily t-zone. I haven't found a liquid foundation for me that doesn't make me look and feel oily, that doesn't settle in fine lines or that doesnt look cakey when I try to use a powder to set it. The powder foundation is great for everyday makeup and feels light. I will definitely be repurchasing.
I love Laura Geller and there's tons of useful comparisons on her website between all the products. Everything is so easy and flattering to use. Plus she's got a huge sale going on!!
The LG Bake, Balance and Brighten powder is beautiful, and each shade covers a range of skin tones, so choosing a color is easy. The powder eyeshadows are subtle, with good depth of color, so if you're heavy-handed with the brush, it still looks good!
Loving your channel. After 40 I made multiple changes to my makeup, after 60 more changes and wore a lot less makeup, now at 70 more tweaking and discovering what I can do to look better which means I’m adding some things back in. Keep your videos coming!
Whew! I had to slow the speed on this one! You were speed talking, girl! Thank you so much for making these videos! I’ve changed EVERYTHING … from my skincare routine to my makeup! I’ve taken every single recommendation & instruction you’ve given & implemented them! My favorite skincare recommendation is the Clarins line & Dermologica exfoliator! Absolutely LOVE those lines & I can’t thank you enough! I have the Lancer Pro Polish Microdermabrasion device, which I’ve never heard anyone speak about, but I absolutely love it! I don’t remember if you recommended these, but I’m using the Farmacy face cleansing balm & also some of the Bioassance skincare line, which I love! I switched from Mirenesse foundation to NARS Sheer Glow & LOVE it! I tried the Armani first, but UNFORTUNATELY my skin hates it! I loved that foundation so much, but it didn’t love me! I’ve even changed to the powder puffs you recommend & you’re right, as always, they’re great! Thank you again for sharing your knowledge with us! I can’t tell you how much you are appreciated!! 🥰😘 💄🧡🧡
I've become such a makeup minimalist at my age, I'm 43. I love it because these days I barely spend on makeup products. First of all, I no longer use powder, don't really need it. I use a skin tint from wet n wild that is as good as all the high-end ones, and I've used those. For the eyes, i alternate between a brown eye liner that i love from rimmel and the fluidline from Mac in brown. I don't use eyeshadow and I have used brown mascara for a good while now. I do have both powder and cream blushes but for anyone looking for a good cream blush, Honest beauty are some of the best, in my opinion. Dont care for liquid blush, they always change color once on the skin, even the high-end brands.
I’m in my 50s and my skin is combination but more oily. I still use moisturizers and change them up according to seasonal conditions. I don’t use heavy foundation or concealer and I definitely don’t do any baking on my skin. I don’t like anything too matte. I use both Armani Luminous Silk and the Power Fabric. Both are my holy grails!
Look. At. Your. Skin! Every tip applies to me but the cream blush (combo oily girl here w oily hair). Cream blush, even topped w powder doesn’t stand a chance! Thank you for all the education and product recommendations. I’m 36 and am aging like my late Ma bc of creators like you helping me to tend to myself 💓🙏🏼
Thank you!!! Explaining how you “buff” foundations in…formula, and all the things!!! As a 48 year old, I have learned light layers and I wear more makeup than I used to just because of my hyperpigmentation and now dark circles, and absolutely normal signs of aging. I love makeup and looking my best. Cream blush has become a staple….Jane Iredale in balmy is “chef’s kiss” and I love the “magic hour and rush hour” from Tower 28. The shade “petal” is gorgeous from Westman Atelier is beautiful and “peanut” from Em cosmetics is pretty as well. Then from persona cosmetics, “Teddy and guava” are my favorites. I top them with that Versace eye to cheek “Roman Sky” or “Warm Soul” from Mac. All I can say is thanks to you Marlena, Lisa J, Nikki LA Rose, Angie hot and flashy, Allie Glines, and Glam Girl Gabi I am covered!!
I have been using Double Wear for 20 years and lately I have been loving adding a drop of charlotte tilbury flawless filter to my double wear. Its still last all day but the filter adds a more hydrated look perfect for my 40 years old skin. Obsessed!
I stopped putting gel eyeliner all over my top and bottom waterline. Now I only do it on the top as it opens up my eyes more. If only I could find one that doesn't transfer down! lol
Very good tips. I haven't worn make up for five years and have just spent a fortune on new products because I want to start at wearing make up again. I'm almost 55 and didn't know where to begin. These tips were very helpful. I've joined your academy but I don't know where to start or what I should do there
I’m literally a makeup artist and have never felt so unqualified and just lost after turning 45.. you are NOT lying. It’s really got to the point I don’t even wear much makeup anymore and I used to feel so passionate and empowered because it looked GOOD. Everything I had done for years suddenly started looking soooooo bad. I can’t do lip liners, and girl I have a zillion but it just doesn’t look right; I inevitably end up just smudging it then use lip gloss. Can’t wear lipstick because it just ages me. I did use your advice with the Lancome La Base and EL Dbl Wear foundation, that really looks nice.. although with my skin tone I ended up purchasing two so I could blend it better without all the orange. You’ve given me some hope, so thank you!
This is a weird tip I just tried, but it works! I used to put cream blush on the back of my hand and then I worked it into my brush or sponge before applying. Then I tried putting the cream blush into the PALM of my hand instead ,and then proceeding as usual with the brush. I guess the heat of my palm does something extra to the cream because it applies amazingly smooth. Yes, I scrub my hands before makeup and yes, it does mean I have to wash my hands after, but try it. It’s weird, but it works so well. 😊
My first visit to your channel. I saw you with Allie and decided to check you out. I just turned 71 but still love makeup. I agree that in foundation less is more. I love the new ELF camo hydrating foundation. I still moisturize before even though it’s hydrating. It doesn’t settle in wrinkles and still looks good at the end of the day I do use a setting spray and minimal powder. Glad I found your channel😊
Maybelline Build a Brow Pen and Gel in one and the Maybelline Tattoo styling gel are must haves. The tattoo styling gel is fool proof and gives the most natural, think brows with just a few swipes. They did fantastic with both these newer brow products
I was watching this as I got ready. Used cream and then powder blush on one side to see the difference with powder blush before cream on other side. Your tip was right on!
I'll try it over powder next time. I've always heard not to use creams over powder so it'll take getting used to. I switched to cream cheek products because they don't emphasize my texture like powder ones can.
Thank you for this. Super helpful. I'll be 40 in September and really noticing the difference in my skin and what makeup types and techniques no longer work for me.
Yes I feel the same way! In November I'll be 40 and I definitely have to do different techniques to make work to make my makeup look beautiful like everyone else. We all have to adjust accordingly to our skin type! We are all beautiful in our own ways!😊
This is such a great video, 40 over here and I had to completely change my routine and it's a game changer. Thanks for always sharing with our community!
Good afternoon Marlena. I really enjoyed this video. You always explain and demonstrate your information making your points easily understood. Thank-you. ❤😊
Hi Marlena... wow!! This video is JAM-PACKED with wonderful tips and suggestions. Thank you so much!! You are the best, and I appreciate all that you put into videos for all of us more mature gals.
Marlena, you do the best tutorials! Your information is spot on and it is full of great content! I am so happy you showed the Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation. I have been wearing it for 30 years and still love it! I find powders are my problem. I actually stopped wearing setting powders and only wear O/S setting spray. Powders just cake, no matter how little I use or how I put them on. You are right about the lips , I lost my definition around my lips long ago. I am 67 years old now and I have a difficult time with my lips and the only thing that stays on them is the Colour Stay Revlon kinds. I have payed up to $140 for a long lasting lipstick, and the Revlon Colour Stays , stays on the longest. You look amazing!! Thanks for your hard work!🙋♀️😊❤️🇨🇦🦋 0:07Oh and I did get the Anisa brushes! I love them! Question, you say buffing in your foundation, I always stiffle my foundation with a brush, but should buff.
May I say that people probably use too much makeup/concealer because of influencers doing it themselves in videos, putting half a bottle of foundation on your face isn’t going to suit anyone is it?
My favorite drugstore makeup...I couldn't pick just one! I love the Maybelline fit me powder! And sooooo many ELF products! Especially their power grip primer!!!
Love your expertise and suggestions ! Could you do this in a mid range or more affordable price point for those who are on a budget ? Then w e wont feel as discouraged. Please and thank you!!
I feel like when I get my eyebrows waxed and tinted I look younger……I remember an old episode of Oprah where she said all the tabloids were talking about her facelift and she laughed and said “I just got my eyebrows done” FYI, Anastasia was her eyebrow waxer I also use contour under my chin and jawline because I feel my face is not as defined anymore
I’ve always had a minimalistic makeup routine. I turned 50 this year and love and have fun trying the new fan dangled products! I’ve always had a skincare routine, and I think that’s the key- have a routine that evolves as you age. This vid is great!
Liquid and cream blush EVERY DAY! Absolutely agree about the brows - I started putting on brows around 39 for the first time and it immediately brought youthful vibes!
I actually find that pressed Powder makes my skin look dry and cakey. I use a loose powder with a fluffy brush to set my foundation and it looks good according to the comments under my how-to/beginner's series videos. Different things work for different people.
@AllisonMoon-SheWandersFeral I always do tap off my brush. Pressed powders always make my face look dry and cakey. It didn't matter what pressed powder I used. Loose powder never makes me look dry and cakey, so that's what I continue to use.
I just turned 60 & have such a horrid time with undereye concealers (and I have very dark circles & now some bags so I desperately need them). Hence, one could say that undereye concealing & doing my brows is the bane of my existence (mainly because it's SO hard to see these areas without my glasses on). So I'm left feeling very hag"ish" most times because I just can't do my makeup like I used to. BUT!! I'm trying because I watch plenty of content creators to learn from & Marlena your the best -- love your channel ❤
I have found that I tend to use my complexion products such as blush and bronzer on my eyes as well if I'm not going for a colored eyeshadow look or if I'm in a rush. That way I get a nice monochromatic look and the products last longer on my eyes. Sometimes I just don't have time or motivation to bring out the palette and brushes I would use for eyeshadow. I have to say tho seeing your gorgeous green eyeshadow is very inspirational to bring out the colors and play around a bit more 🤩💚🥰
I followed your tips for applying foundation and I’m shook 😮it helped so much. I am dry and use retin A so I always thought using a brush would pull up more dry skin but buffing it in WITH a primer lays so nice! Thank you!
Beautiful Marlena! I absolutely enjoy your teaching videos. I love how well you explain everything. I get so inspired learning new techniques. Thank you ❤
Agree on primers being needed. Most MUA are so against primers and say you can get the same effect with skincare. I’ve never found this to be true, especially as you age
I still love a winged liner but with partially hooded lids that have become more hooded over time, now I try to make a tiny wing, or i use a pencil and make a soft, smudgy wing. I also now prefer a sheer foundation and often only wear a thin layer pf concealer under my eyes and sheer it out around my nose.
At 61, I use very little foundation, often times just using concealer. I have to stay away from dewy foundations because most of them never dry down, and require more powder than I'm willing to use to make them transfer proof. When I do wear foundation, I always use the Elf Halo Glow filter to make my skin glow, then use a skin tint. The most important step is applying a setting spray before powder!! Also, even when I go makeup free, I fill in my brows and use a lip gloss!
I love all of Natasha Denona's products! She just does it right, and it's very flattering (no matter what the product is....concealer, eyeshadows, blush etc.) on aging skin.
Blessed Thank you for tips and tricks in makeup over 40plus... Summer makeup please, how to prea our skin before makeup 💄 Thank you in advance...waiting for your next video ❤Singapore 🇸🇬 Gracious
The A313 pommade applied at night leaves the face soooo nice in the morning. Highly recommend. My personal tip is placement of blush. I apply it more on the side like she has it in here on the video vs on the placement on apples on my cheeks. DEF gives the look of lifting the face up and a game changer with blush.
What a great video!!! That's so true , less is more, especially as we age!!! Thank you for the advice, I will definitely get the Nars foundation, it looks great 👍

Patting myself on the back because I’m 42 and not feeling like I need this yet. Great tips for a few years down the road. Glad my mom taught me about SPF very young.
So Marlena, or anyone reading this comment for that matter; here's the scenario. I went to a lovely outdoor daytime wedding about a month ago here in north GA and it was beautiful, 72 degrees, not a cloud in the sky. I wore a really pretty light mint green dress and I happen to have the colourpop mint to be palette and decided to use it primarily on my upper lid and just a nude liner on my lower lashline. My friend said at 50 I'm too old to be wearing colored eyeshadow; especially to a wedding. Is this a rule? Should I get rid of all my pastel and colored shadows and stick to browns and grays? Also, I was in college in the 90's with a unibrow and I only trimmed and waxed in between the brows. Now I just need a little colored brow gel and I'm good to go! Thanks to my late father for the good brows!
Too old pffftttt of course you're not! I'm sure you looked stunning. I think it's about technique more than anything; I'm a bit of an immature when it comes to eyeshadow unfortunately 😢
I love dermablend everything!!! To me it’s one of the best foundations out there but they don’t have much of a color range. I like trying new things but dermablend gets me every time lol
As an old, dry broad living in the high desert, skin tints and tinted sunscreens are where it's at! There are so many really good ones on the market right now yet I still gravitate toward the Glossier OG skin tint. The older I get, the more I like it.
I have never used Foundation. I have psoriasis so my skin is just different and dry with no skin color issues so using any foundation just creates issues and for me not worth it. I am 44 and have never used foundation even growing up. I just do eye makeup and then under my eye and blush and highlighter. I am a fat girl who can not contour to save my life so I do not do it 😬I love watching you do your makeup and others do theirs. It brings me so much joy!!! I will sit on my sad days and re watch your tutorials from the beginning and just get lost in the world of joy!! Thank you for being such a staple in our lives!

Your makeup always look so fresh and a little dewey. Love it!
Can you review Laura Gellar, please? I keep seeing ads & people my age raving about it. If anyone in the comments has used it, Id appreciate your opinions, as well. Thanks for another great video Marlena! You are awesome!
I would like to know the same! I’ve put it in a cart many times but haven’t went through with the purchase.
The lipsticks and the OG powder foundations and blushes are great. Some of my go-to’s everyday and very affordable prices.
I love that you are giving us so much content…. I literally have been watching old and new videos…. Been following since 2016❤❤❤
aww yay!! I LOVE being here :)
Look. At. Your.
If only I could find one that doesn't transfer down! lol
VICTORIA BECKHAM: one it sets, it sets
@@maribailon2357 and you’re clearly weird.
Such a great tip! ❤
I hardly wear any foundation one tiny drop for my whole face and very little powder. My skin looks flawless. It works!😊
Definitely had skin changes since becoming menopausal at 45. Now I focus on skin care then makeup
Yesssss 👌 I started 49 is overwhelming
Thank you for the buffing idea on my liquid foundation and powder.
I was watching this as I got ready. Used cream and then powder blush on one side to see the difference with powder blush before cream on other side. Your tip was right on!
Yay I'm so glad the cream blush works!
I'll try it over powder next time. I've always heard not to use creams over powder so it'll take getting used to. I switched to cream cheek products because they don't emphasize my texture like powder ones can.
Skin prep skin prep ❤
Thank you for this. Super helpful. I'll be 40 in September and really noticing the difference in my skin and what makeup types and techniques no longer work for me.
Yes I feel the same way! In November I'll be 40 and I definitely have to do different techniques to make work to make my makeup look beautiful like everyone else. We all have to adjust accordingly to our skin type! We are all beautiful in our own ways!😊
Ah I'm 40 in January; happy birthday coming to you both ladies!
This is such a great video, 40 over here and I had to completely change my routine and it's a game changer. Thanks for always sharing with our community!
Great to see you and Allie Glines together! My favorite drugstore makeup is Physicians Formula butter bronzer.
I recently discovered the NARS sheer glow because of recommendations, and it’s SO GOOD.
This feels like old school TH-cam content ❤❤❤❤ thank youuu for sharing your expertise
Good afternoon Marlena. I really enjoyed this video. You always explain and demonstrate your information making your points easily understood. Thank-you.
❤😊
Love that “powder pff” with the product intros!!!
I got the triangle sponges after you suggested them! Thanks Marlena!
May I say that people probably use too much makeup/concealer because of influencers doing it themselves in videos, putting half a bottle of foundation on your face isn’t going to suit anyone is it?
This!
I feel like when I get my eyebrows waxed and tinted I look younger……I remember an old episode of Oprah where she said all the tabloids were talking about her facelift and she laughed and said “I just got my eyebrows done”
FYI, Anastasia was her eyebrow waxer
I also use contour under my chin and jawline because I feel my face is not as defined anymore
I’ve always had a minimalistic makeup routine. I turned 50 this year and love and have fun trying the new fan dangled products! I’ve always had a skincare routine, and I think that’s the key- have a routine that evolves as you age. This vid is great!
Me too!
Different things work for different people.
tap off the brush, try the #Sensei/#LaMer/#Shiseido/#PMG/#DiorPowder … & really checkout the new #Dior Star 🌟
@AllisonMoon-SheWandersFeral I always do tap off my brush. Pressed powders always make my face look dry and cakey. It didn't matter what pressed powder I used. Loose powder never makes me look dry and cakey, so that's what I continue to use.
Thank you, Marlena ❤
As large as my pores are, I NEED my elf Putty Primer.
I keep going back to Double Wear. It just can't be beat! Thank you for the great tips!
Love your eyeshadow, what brand and color is that green?
At 61, I use very little foundation, often times just using concealer. I have to stay away from dewy foundations because most of them never dry down, and require more powder than I'm willing to use to make them transfer proof. When I do wear foundation, I always use the Elf Halo Glow filter to make my skin glow, then use a skin tint. The most important step is applying a setting spray before powder!! Also, even when I go makeup free, I fill in my brows and use a lip gloss!
LOVE these tips! 🙌🏼
Your makeup in this video is stunning, Marlena!!
I love all of Natasha Denona's products! She just does it right, and it's very flattering (no matter what the product is....concealer, eyeshadows, blush etc.) on aging skin.
Blessed Thank you for tips and tricks in makeup over 40plus...
Summer makeup please, how to prea our skin before makeup 💄
Thank you in advance...waiting for your next video ❤Singapore 🇸🇬 Gracious
Thank you SO MUCH for showing us how you use the elf highlighter! I couldn’t get it to work for me until I watched this! Beautiful! ❤
Thanks Marlena! Love you and Allie! Your video together kept me calm on a scary bumpy flight!❤❤❤❤❤😊😊😊😊😊
Hi!! Coming here from Allie Glines channel!! So excited to see your videos! Love that you have a video on makeup for older women 💜
I love the Chanel Les Beiges Water-Fresh Tint, but I don’t need a lot of foundation. Less is definitely more imo.
Thanks! What's the lip balm that you mentioned?
This video it’s so helpful! I hit 30 and I noticed that my make up tricks don’t work anymore 😢
Thank you for the advice, I will definitely get the Nars foundation, it looks great 👍
Omg you are the first make up channel I started watching back in 2010. I am just getting back into make up and I realized I am still subscribed to your channel.
Love the brush technique for the moisturizer!!! 🥰🥰🥰
Excellent tips. Appreciate your honesty in sharing your challenges as well.
Patting myself on the back because I’m 42 and not feeling like I need this yet. Great tips for a few years down the road. Glad my mom taught me about SPF very young.
Double wear has been my favorite for years. So good.
I don't think we're ever too old for color! I'm 46 and I love purple and green. 💕🤍💕
@@simplythebestgirl thank you I thought it looked really nice
If a color makes you feel pretty, wear it.
@@amysmithssportsandmakeup1397 That's great 😃! I'm sure you looked really pretty 😍!
Too old pffftttt of course you're not! I'm sure you looked stunning. I think it's about technique more than anything; I'm a bit of an immature when it comes to eyeshadow unfortunately 😢
Thanks for the great tips and tricks. You look great in the green shadow 😊
Thank you Marlena after 15 days I am turning 50 years old and I am going to pay attention to all your techniques 😀
I absolutely loved your advice for women over 40! I will definitely use your advice! Thank you and big hugs!!!!!
Loved your video with Ali Gaines! My favorite drugstore makeups are milani blushe revolution bronzer and the skt high mascara!
The OG and still the best. Thanks Marlena. You continue to deliver useful, relevant entertaining content
Can you share brushes to use for foundation, etc.? Also a good peach color corrector for dark circles
One tip I I follow since I turned fifty is to make sure my face is moisturized before putting on foundation; wow, what a difference it makes.
Choosing to share your wisdom with us is very much appreciated!!
Marlena thank you for your videos, 42 yo here, i now read every single list of my skin care and makeup to watch out for the first 5 ingredients so thank you!
Great tips! Love the Green eyeshadow on you! I wear less eyeliner and lighter colors!
The green makeup with your shirt is everything 🔥😍
