Remember along side the old altar location, there was a section of flooring that looks like it had been filled in? The thought was it may lead to the catacombs under the chapel. Maybe that arch structure was an outside entrance into those catacombs also?
Billy you have a knack for finding the best people for helping you to make your dream projects a reality. While we often take time to praise the team we often forget to praise you for your vision and you are the cement that binds all together. Crack on team.😊
There is nothing that Yanis won't do! From retrieving a drone stuck high in a tree to crawling in dark, tight spaces under the convent. YANIS, YOU DA MAN!!!
Yanis ' work ethic is so wonderful and his ability to learn new things paired with wanting to learn new things is priceless ...before u know it he will be skilled in all things renovation/upkeep and u all will have a 24/7 property maintenance manager to help u all care for all the homes chateaus ,convents in the family... i think he will be a valuable person in all ur families lives to keep around for a long time .not just b/c of those things but he seems to be very kind and a joy to be around ..u all might as well as adopt him as family member at this point an honorary brother, son ,uncle, etc...let the adoption ceremonies begin... crack on everyone !!! and have a blessed day !!!
Yannis is a sponge when it comes to learning new things. His English is improving every day and his quest for knowledge will serve him and others very well. Rick is a joy to have around with his happy disposition. Have a safe trip Billy and Phil. 🙏❤️
Yanis certainly isn't afraid to get hands dirty. That was certainly exciting. When you see spaces like that under the ground, the imagination goes walkabouts. Great video 👏👏🙏
Yannis is fearless, he climbs to the top of a tree to rescue a drone and crawls down the depths of the convent trenches. He’s amazing!! Safe trip, Billy. xx
Well, we now have a new value of measurement. One standard Yanis. Yep, I can see it now; 2 guys determining how much flooring to buy, one worker turns to the other and states that the square footage measures 4.7 standard Yanis. Works for me.
I am so beyond impressed with Yannis! He is such an incredible young man & so up to learning EVERYTHING he can about EVERYTHING! All the skills he's acquiring, his comprehension of English! Keep it up Yannis, we love seeing you. A great group of men to watch, our Billy, Michael, their Dad, Rick, Yannis & Simon. You've accomplished so many wonderful restoration/renovations in both the Convent & the Chateau! All such beautiful articulate work. Thank you for sharing with all of us in 'TH-cam' land. :D 'LET'S CRACK ON!'
The archway seen above the small tunnel seems pretty large. Large enough to have been a door. It is very possible it is an old medieval ruin on which the convent was built later on. When the convent was built the old ruin was already pretty deep so they probably just repurposed some of the old tunnels as sewers or water drains. Humanity always builds upon the ruins of previous civilizations so no surprise there. Would have been interesting to see a basement or cellar of the convent, if it has one. Usually the ruins of ancient medieval buildings become basements of newer buildings that are built on top.
Absolutely agree about Rick being so valuable. He seems to be able to do anything, and always has a cheery smile. And it's wonderful to see Mick still getting in there too. Yanis is incredible as always, and Michael is doing a wonderful job on that lower kitchen and the terrace. Clive is a great plumber and will be the right mentor for Yanis, just as Simon is. Your videos, Billy, are excellent and I love your choice of music.
Yanis has no fear he is a very inquisitive man always wanting to learn, How interesting what is below the building . Glad the leak was not to bad and now fixed😘
As I proposed a few videos ago. And now that you are buying a new camera. Use that camera to take a look into the crypt, through the window/air vent. Maybe we can see if the crypt is empty or full of dirt.
I immediately thought of what you confirmed straight away Billy, Yanis is interested in learning plumbing! Janis, such an eager learner, he's becoming an 'Allroundman'! And for the arch, perhaps it is a reminder of a foundation predating the convent? An archeology project in sight...?
Oh my goodness Yanis is amazing I love what you all are doing . I am from New Zealand i have been watching you all for a long time now I am a mother of 5a grandmother a geart grandmother and i am 84 years old and i love what you are doing ❤
As this is the toilet block it may be a place where wast could acumulate and be dug out periodically, with town drains installed this contaminated space would be walled up ,as no longer required tank.
I wonder if there is any documented history in Ernee about underground tunnels for hiding or escaping. Really enjoyed this video. Have a safe but fun road trip with Phil. X❤😊
Such a classic chill episode! Exploring! I'd be very surprised if this wasn't some sort of passage/cellar from a previous construction that's been built over multiple times. The fact it goes under the chapel is immensely intriguing. You could probably spend a month just excavating, same as at the Chateau with the tunnel system there. Very cool!
I’ll hold the light with Rick and hold my breath for Yanis. Holy smokes Yanis I was super happy when you came out of the hole. Dismantling the secret room then you find the hole. I wonder how many mysteries you are going to find.
I was locked in a furnace heat exchanger to inspect it. I was nominated for the job because I fit, but had to be pulled out by my legs because I couldn't get my shoulders out. Never did that again.
I wonder if their are buried treasures under those arches? would be interesting to see it all excavated underneath there, not that they need more work lol
I am glad you are looking at the foundations, as the building stands or falls due to the foundation! Seeing the pipes were PVC, I would think they just lopped off the old pipes and installed new for convenience. But it makes finding the old supply line harder!
That opening shot says it all…when Yanis isn’t doing, he is watching like a hawk, picking up knowledge wherever he can. The journey below tells us he has as much love of a mystery as Simon, and he is fearless. It will be interesting to see what is actually down there when you dig it all out. I enjoyed this.🖤🇨🇦
Ernée has an extensive network of underground tunnels and caverns that date back to World War II. These tunnels were used by the French Resistance as: 1. _Hideouts_: Safe houses for Resistance fighters and Allied airmen. 2. _Meeting points_: Secret gathering places for planning and coordinating Resistance activities. 3. _Arms caches_: Hidden storage facilities for weapons and supplies. 4. _Escape routes_: Secret passages for escaping from German patrols. Some of these tunnels are now open to the public, offering guided tours that showcase the history and significance of Ernée's underground network.
I know you said that the mysterious channels were completely dry Billy, but that arch made me wonder if there had been an old original watercourse in the area and the Convent was built where it was, in part, so that fresh water could be channeled into the complex with relative ease, perhaps to fill up the well/s. I often look at the remnants of the old roadway running alongside the Convent and the neighbouring properties. The romantic in me imagines the high & varied amount of traffic it must have seen before it fell out of use; it's pretty wide and must have been a major thoroughfare for centuries before it fell out of use due changes in the local road networks. It's this type of thing that leads me to think something similar might have been the case for water supplies. It would be interesting to look at old maps and historical references to see if my imagination matches up to reality.
Yannis is braver than I am... but he's also a lot thinner... and Rick is awesome... I'm so happy he's been back. That was fun... I have a long camera snake/endoscope thing... I bought it to look into the duct-work in this old house I live in... It's kinda fun. I've actually used it quite a lot more than I thought I would. Anyway... I'll be interested to see what's down there... It could have been an older part of the convent that was closed off and filled in at some point... might have been storm drains from before that area was built but it also could have been a once walk-able tunnel... don't know. Perhaps it was like the one under Ryan's new house where it was like a slope down to a root cellar... never know.
My great grandmother had a big old Victorian house and the one room was a dumping ground for antiques etc. We called it Sanfords room after the 70’s US TV show called Sanford and Sons. It was a comedy about a junkyard owner 🤣
Every time my husband has The outside garage and yard area messy or things are out of order. I can’t help but hum the intro to the song lol he gets the point after that
Guys, you do need to be very careful when entering "confined spaces" . Toxic gasses can sit at these lower levels. It would be best to ventilate this area to the outside to make sure there is enough oxygen when looking/working in this area. Stay safe, fellas.
The surrounding properties may have had different drainage back in the day, or a lack of, and the convent needed to keep more water moving out. Or maybe they wanted to move it in the direction of the garden to use it.
Si tu lis ça Yanis, tu fais énormément pour tout ces projets, tu as tellement amélioré tes capacités, meme ton anglais se tient bien 🤩 Keep going guy 😊 From Belgium 🇧🇪

❤❤ Yanis is really a great asset to this team
What a wonderful worker Yanis is he is doing great plastering, and he's not afraid of tiny dark spaces, well done Yanis.
Yannis is a small man, but strong and mighty. I would not go down that hole, but he has no fear. Bravo, Yannis.
Well spoken yes, thank you. Sounds like he’s from my neck of the woods, up North. Chaucer’s English!

I swear, Yannis has no fear. Has Yannis found a whole different level of construction? Is the convent built on top of an older building? Cool idea.
Might be an old crypt or a part of an even older building .
Or just a storm drain .
As a former archeology student I love this stuff😊
Looks to me like it might be a Roman culvert

Perhaps it belongs to an older building on, which the new one is built on. 🤔
Could it be a passageway leading to the hospital, Yannis just seems to love learning, no matter what it is
Yes! We had such a tunnel from the nurses residence to the hospital when I was studying for a nursing degree.
The thing i like about this channel is theres something new every day.

Look into mudfloods…..your convent may have a whole other level.
Very likely! I can't wait until they get to the point of doing some dedicated excavations. :)
Maybe? It could just be a crypt. Old wine cellar possibly? They did say this was the newest part of the convent.
Maybe it is time to bring in some historic excavation experts.
