On Lesson 12 and it's quite good so far. What I like the most is the lack of fluff and that you get straight to the point with what's most practical to learn to reach conversational level asap. A lot of things have been clicking for me, not only with just learning the Thai language but teaching/learning new languages in general -- the pedagogical methods of gradual exposure.
In the lessons section I encourage you to make sentences on your own before i give you the answers. Also my style is to try to make you make long sentences with the words/patterns you learn.
thank you Grace, purchased. do you have any recommendations as to how many minutes per day people should study? or, how many minutes per day/sessions per day would you do if you were learning via the course?
Grace, lesson 3 quiz, i think theres an error. answer correctly "ชอบกินชีสไหม" . The only one that made sense to me was "ชอบ" which was wrong? I then went back and selected both other answers and they all show as wrong, at least im sure i did. there isnt a way to see which answers i incorrectly selected.
Hello, My recommendation is: For the lesson videos, when I ask you questions or ask you to make your own sentences, pause the video, and try to do it on your own first. Don't just listen passively. For the comprehensible video, listen to each video with the subtitles, the without the subtitles as many times as you need until it gets easy. Regarding minutes per day, as much as your brain can absorb. The more doesn't mean the better - if you are just listening passively. I think at least 30 minutes focused session each day
Hey the correct answers are these 2 - ชอบ (chop) - ค่ะ ชอบกินค่ะ (ka chop gin ka) Regarding it not giving the answers, unfortunately, the platform I use doesn't let me do that but this week I am going to find a way to add the answers somewhere so students can check.
@@thaiwithgrace9231 Oh, that makes sense. i selected only one option on each 3 tries so it was wrong because i didnt pick the two correct ones together. I expected "ka chop gin ka" to need to be "ka chop gin cheet ka" for it to be correct, so was a bit confused. Must keep practicing :). thank you Grace.
Thank you Grace! I should be an intermediate, (5 years pouring through youtube. I can read and write upper beginner) but I still feel like a beginner, in conversation. Your coarse starts at absolute beginner. Does it go up to advanced beginner/intermediate as well? 🥴
Hey if you click on the preview to watch the first 2 lessons (on the course page), I recommend looking through the lesson titles. If you are not sure how to say what I teach then I think the course will be useful for you
Is READING Thai required, or at least recommended for your course? Or is it optional? How hard it would be to use only video/audio of your course (and possibly reading the English part as a guide)? Because I don't want to invest time/effort to reading just yet, I would like to focus on LISTENING FIRST, and reading transcription is said to lead to farang accent.
Reading Thai is NOT required to take the course. Listening, understanding, and learning to speak/construct sentences is the MAIN FOCUS of the course. Knowing how to read will help with differentiating vowel sounds that doesn't exist in English. HOWEVER, its very important to know that even if you know how to read already, that doesn't mean that you can pronounce like a Thai person. To pronounce like a Thai person you have to listen a and imitate the sound. If you haven't seen the preview of the course, here is it polyglotgrace.podia.com/view/courses/beginner-thai-course-a0-a2/2795929-a0-complete-beginner/8893114-lesson-1-my-name-is-grace-i-am-thai-what-is-your-nationality-i-am-not-thai . I also talked about what I think about transliteration and also explain how the course is structured. You can see the first two lessons for free.
Hi, in the lesson videos, I don't use thai script but in the video descriptions I have the Thai. In the future when I make a more advanced/intermediate course, it will be in all Thai script.
Many times learning to read and write first discourages people to continue learning. I think it's good to dip your feet in the language first by learning to speak. Actually, learning to speak Thai is very easy and within the first hour you can already construct sentences. After knowing how "fast" you can speak and understand the language, hopefully you will have a lot of fun, and then you will gain a lot of encouragement to learn to read.
How can we access the intermediate content to evaluate it? Learning vocabulary and grammar rules provides an illusion that you are learning to speak. Based on the principle of how we all learn to speak out first language by mimicking native speakers, we only learn to read and write later and then only learn grammar even later when we can speak at a basic level. Well designed comprehensible input helps to address this challenge for adult learners when the content systematically builds knowledge in carefully constructed integrated modules. Besides that, we all want to learn languages to speak the language. If we aren't speaking every day, then we aren't learning to speak and we should spend at least 75% of our allocated time listening and responding to questions and answers and relevant content. This goes beyond repeating what we hear out loud to ourselves because we can not coach ourselves in tone, accent, rhythm, etc. How do you address these requirements, which are of even greater fundamental importance when learning to speak a tonal language? Thanks in advance for any feedback and insight into your offering.
You can see the title of the Lesson videos in A2 level to know if appropriate for your level. (Just click on the course page to preview) The teaching style is pretty much like lesson 1, and 2 previews. Regarding speaking. My course will help you construct sentences. I think in order to speak, you need a base and structure to build your sentence upon. But regarding getting coach with tones and pronunciation It’s important to get a speaking partners. you can find them through language exchange or get a private tutor

Can you make an anki deck to go with the course or to do after each chapter?
Hi Ricky,
Good idea, If I see more requests for this I'll add an anki deck. Do you mean like for the sentences or the vocabs?
