    Well said khun Grace. When I first visited Thailand 1990 Phuket was Thailand. Later I lived and worked in Phuket from 2005 until 2012. Operating a small restaurant and guest house on Rawai Beach. It was when I sold I knew Phuket was no longer Thailand. The locals have become jaded by many factors, above all poorly behaving farang tourist and expats cause the locals to loose their Thai culture and began to act more like foreigners. For most tourists it's still a good destination but anyone who expects to experience traditional Thai cultural ways of genuine kindness and hospitality may be disappointed. Unfortunately many places around the world have become this way. Mass tourism has adversely affected many communities. I'm glad I got to experience many countries around this planet beforehand. Now my feelings about travelling have changed. Not just Thailand, tourist destinations around the world. I still love Thailand. There's still many places to go to but it's becoming difficult to avoid crowds. Especially since youtubers and social media. Grace thank you for giving me the opportunity to practise and increase my limited Thai language skills. 🙏

    To be honest, I really don't like Phuket. It's a very expensive region, with little original Thai left. My parents sometimes fly to Phuket on vacations, so I come there to join them. Every time there I have a not very pleasant impression of the prices, communication with tourists and local Thais, who don't really like foreigners (and there are reasons for that, of course). Fortunately, the most of the time I spend in central Thailand, with much greater pleasure. Thank you for the nice video!

    6:42 "kam sap mai mai", when "mai" is repeated, is it to emphasize it's NEW, or is it to make it plural (ie, multiple words)? Or it depends on the sentence/situation? Sometimes, it (the adjective) is repeated to emphasize being NEW (or some other adjectives); sometimes, it is repeated to make the noun plural? It works either way?

    • @thaiwithgrace9231
      @thaiwithgrace9231 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      It can make words become plural such as dek (child) and few more words but not that many. It can make colors become ‘kinda’ for example ‘see daeng daeng’ is ‘kinda red color’ But here, actually the repetition is not necessary at all and I can totally omit it in this phrase. It’s just a habit to say like that. It doesn’t sound more or less Thai to add or omit the word ‘Mai’ in this phrase’ I have a video on repeating words th-cam.com/video/AWvNcXcY8io/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RGRm6n9VaTv1Dv-a

    I've zero interest in going to Phuket. Too many Russians and Chinese, probably the 2 worst tourists there is. The Thai government though gives these 2 countries as much help as possible, it seems, to come to Thailand for longer than other people without caring the impact this has on areas except how much they can line their own pockets, sadly.

    Grace, I've followed your videos for years, and am a big fan. But, I disagree with some of your assessment. I love travelling to Thailand and Phuket has become my favourite place. I've been many times and it's great for a relaxing holiday (Although, quite expensive as you mention). My favourite thing to do is, of course, befriend Thai working on the island. Coffee shop staff, restaurant staff, spa staff, etc. Anyone and everyone. I find that Thai people here are even more surprised and even more open when they hear a foreigner speaking Thai. Somewhere like Bangkok, it's common. Whenever I spoke Thai in Bangkok it was never met with surprise. So, I would say the amount of foreigners that have some Thai speaking capabilities in Phuket is extremely low, which can make for some interesting interactions. I've also made many friends who I still communicate with while I'm back home in UK. Phuket gets a negative rep because of it being overpriced, relatively high amount of sex work, and home to some very disrespectful tourists, but the island is still a beautiful one with nice amenities and plenty of areas that are away from the madness. Btw if you enjoy rock climbing I'm surprised you haven't yet made a video climbing around Railay beach, Krabi.

    • @thaiwithgrace9231
      @thaiwithgrace9231 10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Thank you. Yes there are many beautiful areas. I mostly didn’t enjoy Patong. My last night, I stayed near the airport and enjoyed it there a lot more.

    • @ekaptsv
      @ekaptsv 9 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I'd like to join your message. When I speak Thai in Phuket, I often see a much more friendly attitude towards myself. Thus, I managed to negotiate with locals about various services for very reasonable prices and have some quite pleasant conversations, which is hardly possible for tourists without any knowledge of the language. At the same time, non-tourist Thailand is much more pleasant for me, and Thais in non-tourist areas on average behave much more friendly. Tourists themselves are to blame for this, because they often behave arrogantly and rudely towards locals.

    Yindi tonrap su Singapore, Grace. Hope to see you more often here. I just came back from Phuket (again!), and I heard that the air in Bangkok is very bad now (Jan 2024). My Thai language is getting better, thanks to teachers like you. Khop khun mak khrap!
