Booyah pad crasher jr. has been my favorite for a long time. Cheap, easy to walk, and solid hooks. Small enough for northern snakehead to eat easily, too.
The standard pad crasher is my go to…same thing cheap and super soft it has such a good hook up ratio…the standard is also pretty small and finesse…booyah made a winner with the pad crasher and the pad crasher jr for sure
I'm trying to decide whether Tim talking frogs or Matt talking jigs raises the Enthusiasm Bar higher. :-) Thanks, Tim! We love our frogs down here in Florida, and I thought you provided a great break-down of this extremely fun way to fish. Good luck out there everyone!
Great information Tim, your videos have greatly improved my bass fishing. The cotton you were talking about on the water's surface are from the seed pods of the cottonwood tree. Where the cottonwoods are thick it can look like it's snowing when they open.
@@5280Bassin I actually found, using monofilament worked way better, when dealing with cottonwoods....will never use braid again in these lakes, when the cotton is blowing off the trees....sticks to braid like glue
Give that 6th Sense frog rod a try. I got the 6’10. I fish a lot Ozark lakes and that short rod helps me skip docks and make short roll cast into lay down and other isolated cover.
Another great option for the straight retrieve category is the ZMan Hard Leg Frogz. Pretty much the same as the Spro Flappin Frog. Toss that sucker on a 5/0 EWG and you’re good to go. Even with a 5/0 EWG hook they float. Great option for those who prefer spinning gear but also want to go frogging, since you can just use a lighter gage hook. Get yourself a medium heavy or heavy spinning rod with a good aluminum bodied, 6 ratio spinning reel and you’re in business.
I got my 7’3 Expride EH a while back and it’s an amazing frog rod. Got a solid 4 on the Bully Wa “Little Allen” yesterday. Following Matt and Tim has improved my angling skills and gotten me some very nice fish the past year. Black is my Go-To when it comes to froggin. I've thrown other colors with little to no luck but I'm always open to try others and there are some that I've seen more than just Matt and Tim smash them on so those will be added as soon as I get a new frog rod
I use black red Kuro frog boo yah pad crasher. It always works. Black belly. Recently I did a whole day with a white belly with yellow legs. It worked! Reason: I think that in the spring that butterflies and bugs in my area have yellow highlights. Also the tiny sunfish in many ponds have a yellow streak. I think the rubber color of the skirt legs makes a lot more difference than folks think. The skirt legs flicker a bit like tail fins. Great secondary motion.😉

I was recently fishing down at the river with a yellow and white skirted frog. I decided to wind in for the second half of the cast really fast and I was skittering it across the surface four times faster than normal at least. It was barely in the water. Great detailed video as always. Have not had them hitting frogs lately but do see the ocasional boils just off the shore in the pond behind my home. When I was having them hit frogs earlier this year, several were short strikes so I might trim the skirt a bit on those frogs.

nothing has made more upset then that "white cottony stuff" as you described it. I had to leave a great frog spot bc I couldn't cast without it getting in my eyes and my real. Glad I'm not the only one 😂😂 Gonna try some higher strand braid I guess
You guys should mention sometimes that heavy fast action spinning rods are available. 13 fishing makes a great one called the defy black super affordable only 60 bucks. The lews smash another good option like 90 bucks for the combo so you don't have to necessarily use a baitcaster to use a medium heavy rod. I would still say learning to use a baitcaster is worth it but I don't hear you guys mentioning a lot of those options. Goodwill and God bless
When fishing frogs in the north (WI) where there are northern living close to bass can you use any type of wire or fluoro leader that will still give the ability to walk without getting bit off all the time?
Will spotted bass eat frog baits? It's something I've wanted to get into but my home lake that I fish in Central California doesn't really have the usual frog environments. Thanks TB!!!! Y'all are the best on YT!!!!!
I've had some magnum spots explode on frogs but I must say it is the exception, not the rule. I live on the shad-filled Lower Coosa River in Alabama, so I use a white frog or BassRat alot. One thing I learned decades ago is that spotted bass are seldom caught IN grassbeds, where you fish frogs most often. Those magnums (5lb+ spots) are caught more on the OUTSIDE EDGE, not IN the grass. They learn from a young age they'll get EATEN in the grass! THAT SAID- early, late, and at night, a shad or bream colored frog will absolutely draw some vicious strikes from spotted bass... ESPECIALLY during a willow fly (Mayfly) hatch! 🐸
Nothing wrong with a MH rod for frogs as long as you aren't fishing in the super slop, and you definitely don't have to be in the soup in order to get bit on a frog, use a slightly smaller frog with I guess what you might call finesse frog hooks, and 50lb or so braid, and knock them out.
Best budget frog rod in my opinion to buy is the 7'3" mag heavy Dobyns Fury. It can do it all. Frogging,Flipping and Pitching in heavy stuff and I even use it for smaller jig hooked swimbaits like the Megabass Magdrafts. You won't have to break your bank account and it's a great rod. Start there I suggest
@@ericreid2645 I like Fury rods, St. Croix Mojo Bass rods are probably my favorite though, I think it's like a 7'4" HF they have designed for frogging, and for like $140ish without sales, and probably around a bill or just over on sale it's a great choice
@@johnhildenbrand2642 yes those are a good choice also. I own 15 combos and they are broken up fairly evenly. I've tried alot over the 20 years of fishing. But I've been able to afford recently a two Megabass p5 destroyers and two Levante's but I have several Dobyns Fury's and Champion XPs 3 GLoomis E6X and 6 St Croix s. I have two Bassx for top water poppers and larger walking baits. I have a Mojo Bass Glass Rip n Chatter a Legend Glass crank bait rod and 2 mojo Bass. One jig n Worm and one big 7'10 I believe A rig Swimbait rod. The St Croix s are great. I have had a few guide inserts pop out on the mojo Bass rods though. One on the jig n Worm I had to replace and one on soft plastics rod I used to have but gifted to my girlfriend. So keep a eye out every once in awhile on the inserts of your guides. But I second the motion of your choice in the mojo Bass. Happy Fishing and good luck out there
So could I use a 7’3” MH Duckett Micro Magic pro for a frog rod? Or do I need a heavier rod? If the Duckett doesn’t work for a frog rod what could I use it for?
Great video as always fellas. You (or anybody) have issues with the hook up ratio on the gavacho? On the delta this weekend I got 5 times the amount of bites on the jackal over anything else but zero hook ups. Boil them maybe??
Willows and Cottonwood trees both make that cotton. My pond is full of it from the willows. I’m surprised to hear you say you set immediately with regular frogs. Everyone preaches to wait. I’ve watched Ish Monroe, who you know the frog is his bread and butter bait, also set the hook immediately. I’ve tried to watch Dean Rojas but never seen any of his vids where you can actually see the bass strike and how fast he sets into them.
I also agree with the set immediately…our brains process what we see much slower than the speed at which a bass eats a frog…both seem to work tho, like most things in fishing personal preference and what your confident it make all the difference…lots of pseudoscience in fishing lol
Hi Tim - when you turn away from the camera we miss what you're doing with the rod and reel. Noticed in last couple videos. Otherwise you're amazing at this :o) thanks for the vids!
I legit caught a pb 7.09lb on a jackhammer with a spunk shad trailer I picked up from another video of yalls the day you posted this. watched this video and the very next day went out and crushed my pb on a frog. 8.26lb. I owe every pb I've gotten to both of you. if I could send pics and videos you're more than welcome to use it as my formal review.. tactical bassin is o'fish'cial
@@tacticalbassin I went to Brian latimer straight up fishing school with him and Christian greico. I'd gladly pay double what I paid for that if yall did a seminar where you could give presentations and do some q&a on the topics.
Right handed or ambidextrous? Right hand casting, Right hand cranking - easier with handles on the left IMO. That said my compliments on your casting style letting the rod do the work instead of like my buddies with his baseball style swing where he catches me or my gear in the back of the boat. It appears to me most or all of us need to tune up our casting styles with low profile bait-casters. Handles up or down my friends.
Just got a St Croix Bass X heavy. What other techniques would you say this rod would be good for? Love the content, wife doesn't like that I seem to order more baits after your videos drop. 😅
If u fish frogs around woody cover, braid for me is a no-no...some reason the braid gets stuck in the crevices ALL the time & abrasion resistance isn't great...perfect for grass, not wood..20-30lb. Mono in that type of cover works much better for me.. and the stretch myth...very little stretch in that higher lb. Mono...plenty of strength for a hookset on a bass... not going for marlin! 🤣
Does anyone have tips for walking a frog while kayak fishing? The lakes I’ve been on are so weed heavy with mushy bottoms that at times, a frog is really all I can throw. But I’ve found sitting that close to the water makes it a bit tough to get that frog to walk
I have a 7'3 extra heavy Expride. But it is one of the original models, and apparently they were Japanese blanks that are a little softer(great jig rod). Would you still recommend this for frogs?
Is it ok to use Monofilament Line with a Frog Lure? I’ve never used a Frog before, I have the Reel and Rod type covered with Quantum Energy PT Aluminum Frame and a 7’ MH Rod but 14 lb Berkeley Mono.
One of the baddest li'l frogs I ever fished is the ¼oz. LiveTarget Hollow Body Frog in ALL BLACK. That's right, the 45size, the ¼oz, the little dude. I searched all over Florida just to find 3 of them. The black with yellow back spots, but ALL BLACK skirt legs. IF YOU CAN FIND ONE, that thing is BAD MEDICINE. *ALSO, because I fish my frogs with a REAL FAST, BOBBING HEAD SWIM, the Original BassRat; White w/a Red&White skirt. When that thing was new, 30+ years ago, you had to hide in the bottom of the boat just to tie one on! 🐸
You guys should definitely throw some of the new elastomer frogs (ZMan Goat Toadz, Savage Gear Duratech Toad, Chasebaits Flexifrog). Just make sure you do the toothpick trick or something to keep them up on the hook! I've been throwing them all and the hookups and landing ratio are phenomenal versus hollow bodies. 100% of fish that got the bait have been landed so far and I'm no froggin' master either.
Thanks for the tips!! Btw, I love the BassX rod, although, I just had to exchange mine because it came unglued at the spot where the reel "holder" meets the cork. But I'm sure it was just a fluke, other than that, a great rod!!

Looking at past videos like: Release date: 11/28/2021 BUYER'S GUIDE: TACKLE STORAGE AND GEAR MANAGEMENT @ 7:17 in the video you talk about the Plano 3700 Hydro-Flo. Release date: 12/16/2020 Buyer's Guide: Best Tackle Storage Solutions And Gear Protection! @ 23:48 there is a Plano EDGE 3700 Deep box that is holding frogs. Since the Plano 3700 Hydro-Flo was suggested in the newest buyers storage guide, 11/28/2021. Is this now both Matt's and Tim's preferred storge system for frogs? Quick summary I can grasp is, Hydro-Flo allows frogs with water inside of them to air out while the EDGE is water proof therefor, one should air out the frog before placing them back inside the EDGE. I noticed something in todays thumbnail. Is that the new 2022 Metanium Shallow Edition? It has a lighter grey color plus the micro module is now light grey instead of the matte black color. With the reel being new, how do you like it so far compared to the normal Metanium 150B? I am very interested in the shallow edition. Thank you very much!

Will spotted bass eat frog baits? It's something I've wanted to get into but my home lake that I fish in Central California doesn't really have the usual frog environments. Thanks TB!!!! Y'all are the best on YT!!!!!
100% they will. Should probably downsize frog though.
All bass will eat anything they think will fit in their mouth
Excellent stuff! What would be a good frog for spinning gear and maybe 10-15 lb braid? Thanks much, Toney
Don’t forget the Boom Boom Frog Fur. 😂
Tim, that Suffix 131 braid is designed to sink in the water. You really throw top water with that?
willow trees make the white cotton distributing there seed this time of the year... happens to me every year from mid may through july!
Thank you so much, very detailed and useful information.
I love frog fishing but all I have is a medium heavy rod…I plan on getting a heavy very soon for flipin frogging and punching! Great videos guys!
@@johnhildenbrand2642 ok one of my rods has 50 LB braid on it!
Happy Fishing and good luck out there
The megabass frog goes hard, I’m probably gonna need to retire mine after this summer
I knew you Shimano guys secretly use DAIWA reels and that Zillion is the best! I don't know why you guys don't talk about it 🤔
I love the jackall kaera but it sinks so easy I wish they would put a lighter nano coated finesse hook in them
Have you guys tried the z-man popping frog?
Hello, I'm Angler who's crazy about frog fishing in Korea I'd like to know which program you're introducing at 2 minutes and 28 seconds in the video
Maybe you could help me I always find that the following cast after catching a fish with braid will backlash any advice on how to mitigate that ?
Excellent
I legit caught a pb 7.09lb on a jackhammer with a spunk shad trailer I picked up from another video of yalls the day you posted this. watched this video and the very next day went out and crushed my pb on a frog. 8.26lb. I owe every pb I've gotten to both of you. if I could send pics and videos you're more than welcome to use it as my formal review.. tactical bassin is o'fish'cial
That's so awesome!!! Way to go Joey!!!
@@tacticalbassin I went to Brian latimer straight up fishing school with him and Christian greico. I'd gladly pay double what I paid for that if yall did a seminar where you could give presentations and do some q&a on the topics.
Does it make a difference if the rod is a one piece or can you use 2 or 3 piece rods?
If I just have 1 rod and reel combo what line do I use that I can throw anything on?
Right handed or ambidextrous? Right hand casting, Right hand cranking - easier with handles on the left IMO. That said my compliments on your casting style letting the rod do the work instead of like my buddies with his baseball style swing where he catches me or my gear in the back of the boat. It appears to me most or all of us need to tune up our casting styles with low profile bait-casters. Handles up or down my friends.
Tim, Do you boil your frogs to soften them up and if so how long?
Mono is highly overlooked and underrated by today's bass anglers. 👍🏼
@@shadygraves 100% agree.. price is reasonable to refresh a few times a year as well
Does anyone have tips for walking a frog while kayak fishing?
Matt all i have is a 7' M moderate Lews custom black and a 7'3"MH ive been using the 7'3" mh for all my frogging is that ok its been working fine?
Good one
You guys should definitely throw some of the new elastomer frogs (ZMan Goat Toadz, Savage Gear Duratech Toad, Chasebaits Flexifrog). Just make sure you do the toothpick trick or something to keep them up on the hook!
I've been throwing them all and the hookups and landing ratio are phenomenal versus hollow bodies. 100% of fish that got the bait have been landed so far and I'm no froggin' master either.
My problem isn't catching them, its keeping my frog in one piece after a day. What's the most durable walking frog in your opinion?
6th Sense has a 7'3" XH in their ESP lineup have you tried it? Can you try it and review it?
Thanks for the tips!! Btw, I love the BassX rod, although, I just had to exchange mine because it came unglued at the spot where the reel "holder" meets the cork. But I'm sure it was just a fluke, other than that, a great rod!!
I own 2 that did the same, gonna try to get them replaced under warranty
Do ya get many smallmouth on frogs?
As always, thank you for the informative content. I do have a few questions about what frog storage tackle box you use? Looking at past videos like:
Release date: 11/28/2021
BUYER'S GUIDE: TACKLE STORAGE AND GEAR MANAGEMENT @ 7:17 in the video you talk about the Plano 3700 Hydro-Flo.
Release date: 12/16/2020
Buyer's Guide: Best Tackle Storage Solutions And Gear Protection!
Add a Silica Dessicant pack or two to absorb moisture in your box. You can also add a dash of baby powder. 🐸
Cotton Wood Tim. Hvac guy's money maker.
Hey Tim do you have any suggestions for keeping the rubber legs from melting on a frog while in a Plano box?
baby powder. thank me later.
@@garywest2250 thank you I’ve had that problem for years never could figure it out
Cottonwood is probably the fuzz you're talking about.
Could be cattail "fluff" on the water!?
It's cottonwood and it's heavy as he'll up here in NY but in a week or two it will be gone
I always thought that "cottoney stuff" is pollen, like the fluffy pollen you can blow on and flies away..
