For anyone watching, don’t put the silicone on until you finish the tape, cut the lengths of tape first is also a good option lol, 17 vidio cuts (edits) and 3 rolls of tape later ;)
Nice to see someone else using this in the UK Robin.I’ve been using it for years in Austria and Switzerland where it’s standard to use it on every window installation.
great product. i used a while back to seal up a pvc double door that was very rarely used . the customer was always complaining about draughts. i couldnt seal it with silicone due it needing to open ocasionally. it works great. it swells up to perfectly fill the gaps. you can see where is follows the nooks and cranies of the door. not sure who reconmended it but it was on a you tube video sealing under skirting boards. any big build coming up robin. these item specific videos are great but a big build it great to follow along with
You are the coolest dude Robin. It would be a treat to jump over the pond and build with you my friend. Love your energy. Im on the same frequency as you. Thank you!
I use a lot of this at work too Robin, on face glazed oak frames and ally clad windows and doors and it’s definitely good stuff. Another brand called ISO Bloco and it goes off rapidly especially the 6-15mm stuff 😂
The lanterns are 122kg each and you would need a sledge hammer to get it apart from the silicone, a If someone wanted to break in any other window or door in the property would be far easier!! and without a 3m drop to the floor
these things need two people to carry before they're even stuck down. then in this case they're putting a decking on top which will be flush with the window. they'd have to go some to get this up and I expect there will be many weaker places, like the door onto the deck just behind them that a burglar would use first. but depending on the type of frame will depend if screwed in or not.
The tape is called compriband in the uk. Most mastic companies have been using it for decades now. My brother owns a mastic company and he has given me some when I've been fitting windows doors
Would you recommend this tape to fill the gaps betwen my engineered laminate flooring and the skirts boards? MY joists are like bananas so have so crazy gaps. Cheers.
I doubt this is getting answered at this point, but could this be used on the inside between the top of the plasterboard finish and the window (about 20mm gap) to prevent air/moisture from contacting the window frame and causing condensation? I had a flat rooflight fitted but didn't spec it very well and my builder fitted one for which I don't think the thermal break in the window is very good as have been getting a lot of condensation around the edges of the glass. thanks if you see this and answer (or if anyone else has any experience with this type of issue)
Wow, great products! Those windows must be awfully expensive. Where do you get those? Being here in the US, I can't help but wonder whether it's very easy to get hold of many of the excellent products you have available to you over there or they have to be imported at even greater expense... Really am enjoying your channel and learning a lot. Found out about your channel from Kris Harbour, another amazing and self-made craftsman!
I need to use a similar product on some roof tiles. The question I have is, does the foam compress quite easily ( I need it to), or is it quite firm? I don't want it to force/lift the tile up,
How do get house insurance if people can lift off the glass and enter your home so fast and with minimal sound? I bet the seal can be strong but does the roof material tear with force?
Once these roof lights are bonded down and with the weight at well over 100kg they will be super difficult to take out, far harder than any other window in a typical house
Robin, you swear by Evalon. Considering it for a garden room build (timber frame construction), would you still recommend it for that purpose? Easy to fit?
@@grantcook5376 moves to much and in turn it fails. Also very loud when it rains. I'm sure if the installer is competent then it would be ok. Problem is there's to many people that have just been on a 1 day course and think that's enought to qualify then to be an installer.
They weigh about 120kg each and are bonded down with silicone, I can assure you taking these up would be a mission!!! let alone the 3.5m drop to the floor!!
Hi robin. What is the name of the tape. Not sure did you name the tape on your videos 👍
Check the link in the description
@ukconstruction I looked didn't see it. I'll have a look again. Thank you Robin. Love your channel 👍🇮🇪
Tremco Compri band
I can watch you all day, seeing jobs done properly with proper methods and attention to detail
Keep the tape in a fridge or cool box with some iceblocks to slow the expansion down and give yourself more time.
Now that is a great tip!!!! Thank you Brian!! Everyone here take note!!!
I came here to say this. Beat me to it

Was just thinking the same thing as I know I'd have probably ended up with silicone all over my sleeves etc 🤣

Yep it amazes me how you cannot even find it in most builders merchants!!!

So articulate in your explanations. Hats off sir !

Nice one Austin!!! make your you visit!!
That tape is great. I've used it quite a lot to seal some gaps that caused draft around windows and doors around my house.
looks like a great product and easy to fit. Excited to see hoy you will build a deck on that flat roof
You never squared it up.. Perfect Robin
If you cut a v notch in your nozzle you get a nice tall bead. Worth experimenting.
Will try that!! Thanks mate

Evalon sounds remarkably like the flooring Altro. Both use welded seams.
You are right!! I wonder if there is a connection??
Any concerns about security? Any chance someone determined enough could lift the skylight clean off the upstand?
This was my thought also
Your cars windscreen is glued in with a similar product. It's not going anywhere. It would be easier to smash a window.

122kg each?! I don't think so.@@ukconstruction
@@mttscu It's three panes of glass - I could easily see it being 122kg.
Is there any other fixing other than the tape and silicone? Just thinking how hard it would be for a burglar to gain access

Here in the Netherlands its called the same. But i rather not work with it because it becomes hard when its sees alot of UV.

It would not lift a well laid roof tile
What length are the rolls of tape? I can’t find that on the specifications. I have 4 of those roof lights coming today.

Are they set to slope in line with the roof for water runoff, Robin?
We have a small fall on the upstand about 5 percent as set out by the manufacturer
👍 Can the tape also be used as a draft excluder on door and window frames where there is constant opening and closing?
I think there are better options for that, this is more for filling permanent gaps
why didn't you just use two beads of CT1 ?
I wouldn't use CT1 in this application, I use a sealant that is specifically designed for glazing applications such as Dow Corning
Not worried the expanding tape will lift the window and destroy the silicon seal?
Well heard, they are 122kg each!!!
What no tool belt.. Good product.
👍
Robin, you swear by Evalon. Considering it for a garden room build (timber frame construction), would you still recommend it for that purpose? Easy to fit?
I do swear by it, but I have it fitted by an approved contractor
Could agree more regarding the roofing covering. Fibreglass is the worst product!
Please tell me why ?

What's to stop a burglar lift it off? Not quite to the Pink Panther standards ...me thinks!

Why on earth would you want to walk on that?

Suppose when its decked out you would when the glass is flush with the deck🤔
I mention in this film that the decked area will be flush with the glass so its a seamless finish
