I am so excited to see the UK in the Walking Dead world! My initials thoughts are that we wouldn’t do great in a zombie apocalypse- we are so dependent on imports for food and goods… but that is a problem for a full population. With a reduced population perhaps it wouldn’t be as bad. I can’t see the military achieving a full lock down for the same reason every other country would struggle; soldiers would abandon their posts to be with their families. We are pretty good at disaster planning so perhaps the UK would be carved up into population centres with localised control or the population relocated to the coast, trading food and safety for farming labour. If anyone else likes UK zombie fiction, the Undead series by RR Haywood is brilliant.
@@kitm141 I feel like the army would be able to fall back to defendable positions using difficult terrain or waterways to their advantage. But eventually supplies would run out like you said, less and less people come back from runs etc. However, COVID showed that the UK is not equipped to deal with any health related pandemic at all. I really like the Infected Dead series by Bob Howard, Book 9 is based in the UK. It’s a really good read, I highly recommend it. You don’t know what you’re on about.. English soil is extremely fertile, and if you’ve ever actually been around the uk, you would see just how many farms we have, in fact just farms in the Kent country could feed all of London (that’s around 9.5 million people) The uk’s main weakness in a zombie apocalypse would probably be how much immigrants we let in.

So, according to the wiki, Angus and Fiona are in their late 30s/early 40s. They said they've left England when they were still very young. We know that Daryl is 13 years in the apocalypse so it must mean that they've went to France pretty soon after the world changed, in their mid 20s, since this is considered the youngest age theyve been in the apocalypse. With all of this, I say that they've went to France a year or two after the outbreak at max. If correct, it must mean that England has been under a military control in the first 2 years of the zombie apocalypse at least, which covers the entire time period from the very start of TWD to TWD season 8, and from the start of FTWD to FTWD season 4. Quite alot of time for tea, don't you think 😂
Nice one on figuring out the timeline. I bet the UK just ran out of supplies if they were doing ok for the first 2 years. We’ve always been a big importer of food. Also the typical thing of people hiding bites or deadly illnesses, falling from within. All this just makes me want more of the UK in TWD universe, I’d watch an early days series set in the UK.
What I’m guessing is England locked it down early and maintained it well but obviously the tunnel guard was killed, I’m hoping maybe they’re just now losing control and England is having a delayed start to the apocalypse. That would be awesome to see the 2 season 1 characters navigating the beginning together all over again with all their experience. Before of course they get out of the city
Yes they couldn't film in London as it would have caused too much disruption and be too costly. We see Union Street underground tube station signs in London etc but I've not seen any footage or still as regards anywhere else being depicted in season 3. I think the army here in Britain would shut things down pdq with little resistance as gun ownership is practically nil. Only farmers mainly if even them nowadays so there'd be little push back but for a small nation there are a lot of people and authority is more centalised. The picture of Daryl & Carol is in front of a London red bus. The Chunnel emerges in Kent about an hours train ride from the departure station. The Spain connection doesn’t make much sense yet, hopefully will do but it’s in the wrong direction to head to the USA 🇺🇸
FYI, the island of Great Britain is made up of England, Scotland and Wales. The UK (United Kingdom) island consists of England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The "Chunnel" Eurotunnel joins Northern France with Southern England, London is approx 70 miles away. So it would be unclear what would happen to Northern Ireland as there is no hard border between it and the Republic of Ireland (southern part of the island of Ireland).
Don’t you think that they would just leave Ireland to it? I mean, there’s not a great history of treating Ireland well (what an understatement!) and the logistics would be extremely difficult to manage. Unless the mainland needed Ireland for something and retained fuel/ships to travel there I reckon it would be abandoned by about 10.30am on day one. Unprecedented times, we wish them well, blah blah blah. I reckon Ireland would do fine without the UK government - smaller population, excellent growing conditions, more rural areas = more guns. The Irish part of me enjoys the idea that 50 years into the new world, whatever was left of the UK government could be begging for help from their old friends over the water.
@kitm141 Yes I agree. I think over time people in both North and south Ireland would co exist, trade and support each other, naturally becoming one country on one island. Probably same would happen in Cyprus and other partitioned countries.
It wouldn’t surprise me if there was a Uk military after the fall, the uk is an island, so it’s easier to defend from the dead. the Uk is quite equipped to deal with pandemics (we saw this in the covid-19 outbreak) so they should be able to create some kind of treatment for the virus. Unlike the USA the UK is small, (smaller than Texas) so it’s forces could take control of the situation far far easier than other countries. Another reason why is it’s weather, English weather is mostly just rain and frost (maybe the occasional heat wave) what are *perfect* conditions for decomposition meaning the walkers would be much less of a threat. All of these elements combined make a perfect place to create a powerful colony. However, I’m not sure if it will still be standing, it’s only down side is, how close it is to France. This is a massive problem as if there are burners and season 1 walkers in France, the chances there are also in England. And as we saw in the commonwealth, season 1 walkers pose a massive threat to communities, that’s why they have thrived in America and not many other places. So, my theory is, the British military successfully took control of the situation (just like the Scottish couple said) and created a community somewhere in London. This community thrived for around 2-4 years into the outbreak, and probably would have been the most powerful organisation on the planet, until the season 1 walkers started spreading to England and eventually to the community, and just like what happened in the commonwealth, these climbing walkers started to overwhelm the British forces forcing them to retreat and leave their people and community for dead. After a while of them living in the wasteland, they would slowly be picked off by hordes and vicious survivors.
