    While I was watching your video, my neighbour banged at my door to express hia anger about the noise of your sudden music which comes suddenly from time to time and which startles us because it is much too loud . Although he is a nice man, ordinary, he began to shout at me, threatening to call the police because of this terrific music sound. Nevertheless I'll continue to watch your excellent videos despite the fact I fear he may come again.

    • @sirmeowthelibrarycat
      @sirmeowthelibrarycat 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A A 👨🏻‍🏫 Hello. Mr Teacher here in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿. I have an answer to your question. Both of these expressions are used to connect to two ideas of similar meaning. For example, a company decides to relocate to larger premises. By the same token (more space) it can also refurbish the original building to create more room. The second expression is not as close in context as the first. Here we have two ideas that are more open to interpretation. In my example of the company the owners discussing relocating their business might also consider, on a related note, replacing large machinery with digital technology. That way they could remain at their current location. I hope this is helpful for you.

    For a long time, for some reason, I thought "whilst" had just the more abstract, non-chronological sense of "while", until I realized it was just a different spelling for the same word. I guess it happened that I had read more texts by British authors addressing topics that used the word in such abstract/non-chronological sense, whereas maybe the bulk of what I read or listen to is American English, and the odds are that they'll use just "while", regardless of the exact sense, maybe even mostly indicating simultaneity.

    • @uffa00001
      @uffa00001 ปีที่แล้ว

      "For a long time, for some reason, I thought "whilst" had just the more abstract, non-chronological sense of "while", until I realized it was just a different spelling for the same word." IMHO you got it right initially. While can have a temporal meaning and an adversative meaning; whereas only has an adversative meaning; whilst has an adversative meaning and therefore it is, in meaning, closer to whereas than to while or, when it has a temporal meaning, it is more restricted (see below). Whilst is a whereas with a different position in the statement. Whilst also has a temporal meaning but it means "for as long as", you can use the bathroom whilst you are in the restaurant means that you can use it as a restaurant client for the time you are in the restaurant, in this sense you can use "while" but in general I don't think you can say "It was raining whilst I was walking" in English (I might be wrong!).
