Edit - took me roughly 7 hours to do the fuel pump on this car with filming which is all in the next episode! I am starting to really like the wheels that are on the car aswell i dont know what you think?

Regarding the windscreen. Make sure when you order the replacement it is bronze colour.
Imports are bronze, so if you fit the UK green glass it will look wrong.
Also make sure a correct trim is used. A lot of people fit a universal trim which looks wrong.
Shame I'm not closer I'd live to come over and fit a screen for you. Dust off the tools as it's been a fair few years since I was in the trade now.

My favourite episode so far... mostly as the second car I ever bought was practically the same. A Japanese import MR2 SW20, G-Limited, but in black, no targa roof and with a manual box. It was my first sports model, and I loved it... until on one sad journey it ate ALL of its oil and the engine big end failed. So off to the great race track in the sky it went...
    Gone, but not forgotten!

Looking forward to seeing this series now. When I was a kid I used to see 1 going about town and since then I’ve always wanted 1. A few times I’ve had the opportunity but be it finances, storage or having a family, it’s just never been the right time. 1 day I will own 1 but until then I’ll just admire them from a distance 😂😂

A clay bar and 2 stage machine polish and a wax would bring back 80 percent of that paintwork back even some of the more heavy bleached areas . That would probably do and it would look very respectable .. but seeing how clean it is .. I think a respray with its original colour would do it justice 👌

Well, you say they rust, but really they’re not bad. In the 1970s, when Toyota first appeared on the UK/Irish scene, the new Corollas were leaving flakes of rust on the showroom floors.
But the Japanese are not stupid. They listened and took on board the only real problem we had with their super luxuriously appointed budget cars.
Within a few years, they got to grips with moisture traps and even did a bit of corrosion protection and, it quickly became rare to see a Japanese colander on the roads. Even the scrapyards were populated by mechanical/electrical failures, due to maintenance issues, rather than dissolving in the rain.
I’m hopeful for the floor of my freebie Yaris, despite being full of water and alien life forms, since January!

Ben. Underneath that car is brill. I find a lot of imported cars from Japan are quite good underneath as they don't have the same kind of weather as us. I had a Starlet Gt Turbo back in 2007 it was imported in 2006 it was an M Reg over here. My brother a guy who's was on the spanners years who is now a motor vehicle tutor at Manchester College suggested I had the cam belt done at a main dealer as I got a loan at 21 to buy it. And the guy who did it put it up on the ramp at the Toyota dealers in Bolton and showed me how spotless it was honestly like brand new and it was a 1995 car. This has much potential fella keep on with it and have a think about what I said about the tyres dude. Once again another great video and you have inspired me a lot mate.

You've come a long way in one year and you should be damn proud of it 😇 . Anyhoo y'all get some really cool cars that we don't get here in the states & I love the Porsche, the MR2 and the dyna Z. @idletime ปีที่แล้ว

@@tastyclassicsThanks Ben 🤠 . I'm 😮48 now and I still love playing with R/C's and I love Tamiya 🤗 . I really like 1/8 scale petrol powered ( nitromethane) monster trucks and Buggies. I just built a team associated MGT 4.6 monster truck with a big block .26 engine in it. If you like the Chevy Caprice you might be able to find me Vauxhall equivalent in the UK. Sure in the states the Caprice was also badged as the Chevy Lumina & the Impala. I think the Impalas were optioned the best and were probably the fastest especially the Impala Super Sport. Come to think about it you probably loved me Monte Carlo Super Sport as well. Here in the states the majority of 80s and 90s Chevy Caprices were full vehicle as used by taxi cabs (lorries ? ) and by the constabulary
. They used to be everywhere but now it's once-in-a-blue-moon if you ever see one on the road 😋😋

  • @PaulinesPastimes

Wow, quite a survivor. It looks as if it was on the roads of Britain for a short enough time to prevent it from dissolving completely. You don't see many in Australia but they sold quite well I think. They were raced here and there was even a Bathurst special edition. Looking forward to seeing what you end up doing with it but it seems quite mundane after the Panhard. 😊

i am SO jealous..always wanted to find a roughy one of these and just get it on the road and wear its imperfections, try things DIY style, wishing i was you having got that..if it ever goes, id be super interested..though knowing how crazy people go for that JDM tax.. puts me off some dream cars, 3000GT, 300ZX..though there is a nieghbour with a 3000GT in worn red paintwork like this..might be a ballache to get going but something to do..would look pretty good beside ol MR two.

  • @johnmelling9950
    @johnmelling9950 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

Ive owned loads of these and the mk1. I do prefer the mk1 for driving, its like a road legal kart. The mk2 is a great car though, very reliable other than the odd common fault that all cars have. That 3SGE engine is bullet proof like most 90s Toyotas. Some of the mk2 common problems are the brass heater pipes which run above the fuel tank can leak where the bracket that bolts them to the body is soldered/braised to the pipe, the rear handbrake calipers seize giving poor handbrake performance and MOT failure, front calipers also seize giving binding brakes, inner steering rack joints commonly go giving play in the steering, T-bar roof seals lose their plumpness with age and start to leak, sills towards the rear usually rot, manual gear change cables can snap which isnt a problem for yours, front suspension strut top mounts start to knock with age/wear, otherwise they are a great car.

I used to have one of those MR2 20 years ago. They're great fun but twitchy af on the rear end. Mine was red and the paint faded like that too.

The older I get, the more interested in am in cars I didn't find interesting when they were released. I think the joy of driving has overcome me Vs the desire for power and status!
Amazing channel Ben, the only to make me LOL.

Nice project - well worth sorting due to the underneath. Get it undersealed ASAP as it won't stay like that for long. I like the patina - It's LDV post office/Corsa MK1 style - Would like to see what a bit of farecla would do before you give it a blow over. Alloys are ok but nothing special, and you don't have the HFH (hose from hell) as it's non turbo. Looking forward to the next installment, and I have patreonised you.

I used to have a G limited and where I got it from near Brighton they had a Turbo in metallic green with Gold alloys and Apexi Boost controller . That was fast 0-60 in 4 secs . But it got stolen and burnt out . After my G limited got a Supra MKiV in Silver

The car is in fantastic condition, it really deserves some time spent on it to give it a new lease on life, go on, you know you want to.

This is my favorite Chanel now. I love this guy.I am certified mechanic and I love how he just gets stuck in and eventually sorts it.A refreshing change from the soft woke and week young apprentices of today, but why the helldo Poms carry a mug of tea who the hell does that?😊
