Holy crap! You did it! I have been telling people to do The Who's Young man Blues and they never do and they are missing out. Hello punk music, meet your grandparents.

You and me both brother. I too have asked people too react to this song. The trouble is... The Who only played with this much ferocity for a short time. Some people only know them for their 70s hits. For my money, the Live at Leeds version is the very best version. It was not filmed but still, Townshends guitar playing on that version is just insane!

You have to keep in mind when hearing this, that there are only three instruments playing. Townshend, Entwistle, and Moon all playing lead. That's why they sound amazing!

I think that the three of them often competed to be the lead instrument. Other times, they played off each other like a symphony. Either way, it was masterful.

I wonder if Stanley Kubrick had Pete Townshend in mind when he dressed Malcolm McDowell in white overalls for A Clockwork Orange. "Young Man Blues" was written and recorded by jazz artist Mose Allison in 1957. This is actually a cover. And quite a jam too. Reminds me of listening to Live at Leeds as a teenager.

@elliot lang I checked the dates. This concert footage is from 1970. ACO hit theaters in 1971. I've read the book ACO, but it was years ago and I don't recall how it described the way Alex and his droogs dressed. Maybe Townshend read the book back when. I don't know. Townshend also wore white overalls at Woodstock in 1969. It seems to me that if ACO inspired Townshend to perform in white overalls, he might also have worn a codpiece too! [grin]

Yeah my dear girl Chris it's nice seeing the film of them playing but Live at Leeds that's the definitive version of that song it has a fuel nice little subtle touches added to it it's a lot tighter and really freaking awesome you know if you hadn't done Eminence Front yet oh my God there's also sister Disco check that one out baby hey turn off the subject but did you ever see that movie Book of Eli I think it's Denzel Washington? they're out in some post-industrial nightmare kind of like Mad Max and this gal follows along with him and he saw the mission put in the midst of all this they stop at this one place and they fall in this booby trap and then it's this old couple and they're there and they invite them in and take him out of the Trap and they go into the living room and she makes tea if she wants to play some music and she has one of those old wind-up victrola styl record players and those play 78 RPM and guess what record she puts on? Well the funny part is is 33 + 1/3 so when she puts a record on it's going really fast yes my dear it's RING MY BELLLLL ........RING MY BELL she says don't you just love music? It's so soothing and here's this version of rigged by Bell it sounds like the Chipmunks it's hilarious Eddie Howe I just thought you better see that movie and you get a good laugh I mean it's the dark movie but it's really good laugh here and there and Tom Waits is in there and he is a great actor not only a great singer-songwriter but is acting skills are impeccable all right dear girls check you on the next drop
