Check out View From a Backstage Pass, supposedly the who recorded a second night that they deemed to be better. There was a problem with the audio equipment and Live at Leeds came to be. It would have been Live at Hull. Anyway, I'm not sure if the audio was repaired, but they released it a few years ago and many of the songs are more ferocious, if possible. There are also live Quadrophenia songs mixed in!

The chromatic build starting at 3:41 is what makes this performance. It facilitates the transition to a quieter background for the pure vitriol of "they stepped BACK!" There's chugging proto-metal at 1:50 that is a full year ahead of Black Sabbath's Paranoid, and the overall attitude is very punk, half a decade before that became a thing. This performance is a de facto ground zero for both punk and metal; an equal to Botticelli's "Birth of Venus," only much darker and more sinister in its' beauty.

Jazz pianist and laconic singer Mose Allison would not have recognized the song he wrote. Townshend was a big Mose fan. As a teen, he knew a bloke who somehow got records from the U.S. One day Pete heard one of Mose's records and loved his smoky, Deep South, soulful voice. Pete was astounded when he saw the record cover, which revealed Mose was a white man. After that, Pete said many years later, he had the notion that maybe he could be a singer someday.

He also said they were the best live band he`d ever seen they only played together once at Merriweather May 25th 1969 and The Who blew Zep off the stage.
Further live must see are A Quick One Stones Circus 1968 and a visual performance of Young Man Blues Isle of Wight Festival 1970.

This band was ALL about the contrast between the genius R&B songwriter/guitarist Pete Townsend and the maniac drummer Keith Moon, whom the former to this day has NEVER understood. Bassist John Entwistle, too, was a genius in his own right, and the band tended to break down between Pete, Roger, and "the other two." Unfortunately, there's nothing to be had listening to them anymore since the deaths of John and Keith except something along the lines of nostalgia. Like the band Sha Na Na.

In studio yes, but not live! At best Zeppelin are exactly on the same level as the Who Live.

Robert Plant sounded like Roger Daltrey. The Who were first and Zeppelin copied.I saw them both live and although Zeppelin were really good they were nowhere as good as the Who live.
