For Demon's Souls I binded the photo mode to the touchpad for a pause button. I'm glad to see an intuitive workaround here as well. I understand what the devs intended and I respect it, but sometimes I don't want to throw a boss fight or potential progression when my kids want me.

I found an interesting one (PC controls): press (space/jump back button) to jump back and then immediately (mouse left click/light attack button) to perform a backwards dodge that chains into a very agressive forward-sweeping slash. I’m not good enough to use it in the heat of combat but maybe someone will find it useful. I checked by pressing them separately and it seems be a legit combo ^_^
I think you're talking about backstep attacks. Press the dodge button without walking in any direction to backstep, then pressing light or heavy attack will do the same attack as your running attack.
Yeah FromSoft is pretty notorious for some bad UI/Ux. There really is no reason you shouldn't have a simple pause button, at least when you playing offline

What's more annoying that the game doesn't let you open the map while 'in combat', which means if an enemy sees you, it takes a good 30 seconds to be able to fast travel even if you're miles away and haven't engaged them at all. Basically, you can tell they've never made a map system before. (I mean unless you count the maps in Kings Field IV, some of which were just like pictures of 3 areas and a marker to tell you which one you're in)

I mean I get that they're a bit less complex, in terms of complexity and showing exact roads and stuff, Elden Ring does it better, but they still work. Pretty much any other open world game has a map you can access at any time, you just can't fast travel when enemies are nearby/aggro. That's the main thing that annoys me in Elden Ring. Like if I'm trying to get somewhere, I'll usually just ignore groups of smaller enemies and run past, but then if I want to check the map to make sure I'm going the right way, I just can't for a bit with no real explanation.

yes, i knew and i discovered it by myself, it is incredibly useful, i dont know why didn't they made it like that for the actual pause menu, for emergencies you dont have to just leave or die like in other souls.
Many people who use PC consider 360 controllers to be snappier and like the design in their hands. Not to mention they are way cheaper to replace than most other options. On top of that, most people play most PC games on mouse and keyboard, but mouse and keyboard doesn't make sense for some types of games
Are we sure that the DLC won't be post mountaintops considering how the one concrete thing we see is that the Erdtree has finished burning down, so would naturally come after that?
I think you can also do that with Equipment menu, making it faster so you don't need to waste 2 seconds going into inventory also you can close Equipment instantly by simply pressing start
I found out almost at launch you can pause by opening the help menu in the map. None of this extra stuff needed, provided you're not actively being invaded/cooperating.
I saw a speedruner do this in half a second mid rahdan fight because someone in chat said you get no maidens he went on to roast the guy and win the fight I have never seen such a legendary experience before

You can do this from anywhere there’s a “help” tab. So you can do it from the map so if your in a pinch you can do it faster
