FireIceTalon It's also 50 Cent's favourite rap album. It just reached higher levels than anything else that came before it. Which is probably why it sold less copies than a more commercial album like All Eyez.

The Makaveli album is like fine wine, it only gets better with time. I was born in 1999 so 2Pac was long dead before I was born. Due to my parents, I was raised around 2Pac's posthumous albums (Until The end of time) (Better Dayz). The one thing that I realized was that I didn't understand "Killuminati" as a little boy, but I'm 19 now and listening that album now, it makes more sense as I get older. That's the beauty of that album, there's so many relevant themes he talks about that are going around today. Out of all the albums, Makaveli is seriously my all time favorite.

Jamal I TDK was Tupac's most accomplished work. Period. It even surpassed Me Against The World, because it swapped the R&B aural landscape of that album for haunting, dark beats infused with overtly religious overtones. The ominous bloodshot sky on the album cover, the liner notes, the eerie interludes scattered throughout, the deadly ending of the last track on the album ...it was just haunting, different even to it's dark contemporaries like Nocturnal, Hell On Earth, Temples of Boom, etc. Even the symbolism of Pac smashing the mirror at the end of the very last video he ever made - 7 years of bad luck. Just damn.

A co-worker and myself were just talking about this the other day. Before I even expressed my opinion on Pac, he was saying how Pac never did anything for him lyrically and he's 56. I have had this conversation with several people over the years and it's the same thing. Most people in their 40's and up list Rakim, KRS-One, Kool G. Rap, LL, BDK etc. I have even heard people in my age group say that Lauryn Hill is a better lyricist. Most of Pac's hard-core fans weren't even alive when his first album came out. Lol. Thanks Unique. That was a good take on my fav Tupac album. Mic Capes basically spoke for me on the subject, I really agree with alot of what he said about "Me against the world." I think its Tupacs best work because it's the deepest Tupac work ever. Also its not connected to anything meaning there's no throwing up the record label or any diss tracks,,just solid music which is always my favorite. There are no distractions that take away from the album even though he was in jail at the time. Each track has it's own sound and is placed on the album strategically at the right time to compliment the next song. "So many tears" is my favorite and I remember being at the "Freak Nic" in 95 you would have through the GA welcoming committee passed this CD out at the border because that is all you heard from every car. That deep bass intro captures you and the "That Girl" horn by Stevie Wonder is on time. Temptations, Lord knows,Death around the corner, and one of my other favorites "old school." The pipe organ and Brand Nubian sample,,perfect.
This is Pac's signature work in my opinion.

There is no better album in my opinion. Pac's confidence was amazing. After a 5 million selling double album like All Eyez On Me, most rappers would've stuck to the same formula and same producers. Instead he wrote & recorded "Killuminati: The Seven Day Theory" in 3 days (mixed in 4), with mostly unknown producers & sold another 5 mill! This album was a dramatic change from the g-funk of All Eyez..AEOM was a great gangsta rap album, but this was Panther Pac not Gangsta Pac. To me this is the truest version of him because of the socio economic and political themes throughout. After the demise of Public Enemy in the early 90s, this was probably the only conscious rap album that went multi platinum and it is still one of Death Row's best sellers.

Pac spoke about how he wanted to go back to focusing on social topics again, like he did in his early albums, trying to uplift the struggling and discriminated, with a new maturer outlook. The Makaveli albu. was a move in this direction. Its so tragic we didn't get to see where Pac was going after the Makaveli album, which is such a great album.

I've never heard another album in Hip Hop that combined a seamless blending of production (each track bleeds into the next) with so many deep and spiritual tracks. Hail Mary, Blasphemy, Krazy, White Man's World, Hold Ya Head, even Against All Odds. These were Pac's most honest songs. The only way the album could've been even deeper is if his brilliantly introspective joint "Reincarnation" had been on it, and of course Lost Souls, Starin' Thru My Rearview, Thug Nature and Friends.
Apart from Dana Dane's "Chester" single of 1995, I can't think of any other mainstream rapper bringing up child abuse in his songs - Blasphemy touches on it (no pun) and the Church's abhorrent complicity in it.

Makaveli dropped while I was was finishing Navy boot camp in Great Lakes Illinois. My sister (1yr younger) brought the tape with her for me to hear when her and my mother came to my graduation from boot camp. I didn't even know it was out. I thought my sister was lying.
The album cover blew me away.
It set the tone for the album itself.
Like: did these words get him killed?
Probably the greatest Hip Hop album ever! Considering the atmosphere of him just getting violently murdered.
I had goose bumps all over me when I was first listening to Makaveli. It was kinda haunting.

Makaveli was Erie as fuck, it was like he was speaking from the Spiritual realm after life... For a lack of a better word is was scary, we use to turn the lights off and listen to it, I have never did that before and never did it sense... First time I felt like the World didn't have much time left while listening to that album... Truely the best album ever!!! Pac got the opportunity to take the Rap game to its highest heights and that's when the game died, the last time it was Real... Makaveli is one album that I can't listen too on the regular, it's an album that takes a lot of emotion to listen too... Sometimes words can be deminished but when Pac speaks I realize how special it is and never take it lightly... Gr8 interview, would love to heat way more from them brothaz...

its funny because i always thought Toss it up didn't belong on that album (who am i to question Pac if he put it there). I wonder if he had that song as part of the original plan to release...As far as the album being one of Pacs best- I think when you put all of the elements in context that came forth on that piece of art- I would have to agree...I remember when i first heard it- there was nothing that sounded like it EVER to that point. I think of all of Pacs albums - I probably played that one the most...It's amazing to me what the producers were able to do to give that album its finishing touches with Pac gone...Blasphemy has always been a song that I consider one of the illest songs ever made. "we probably in hell already- are dumb asses not knowing everybody kisses ass to go to heaven aint going". If that line didnt hit you then (respectfully) you need to research religion AS A WHOLE including its entire history...Pac was in his "red" stage- we should have protected him so he could reach his "Malcolm X" stage...

    • @TheHumanBallsack
      @TheHumanBallsack 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

John Foster Toss It Up was not originally planned for the album - Pac wanted 95% spiritual, dark tracks with just a sliver of sunshine in the form of To Live and Die in L.A. After he passed, Suge instructed the mixers to add it to the album to enhance it's pop appeal, ultimately to prop up sales. Suge was never interested in the real type of art Pac was creating, that's why Pac himself said he only did All Eyez to keep him happy, and regarded TDK as "his" project. That's what he told Scarface just before his death anyway.

original mixtape track list (The 3 Day Theory was supposed to be just a free street dropped mixtape) before Suge made it an official released album is:

      2. Hail Mary
      3. Krazy
      4. Watch Ya Mouth
      5. To Live & Die in L.A.
      6. Friends
      7. Blasphemy
      8. Hold Ya Head
      9. Lost Souls
      10. White Mans World
      11. Niggaz Naturr
      12. Against All Odds
      13. Thugz Cry
      14. Outtro
