    Actually, Mace was really the only Jedi to defeat Palpatine. He had him down and beaten, had it not been for annakin, he could've killed him. Yoda didn't even have Palpatine down like that. So you could say that Mace was the only Jedi to ever come close to killing Palpatine.

    • @hybridous
      @hybridous 7 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      This is correct. Palpatine was unprepared to be eating a bunch of his own Force Lightning. He would've much rather defeat Mace Windu for certain on his own, then leave things up to a torn-apart Anakin Skywalker, who was still unpredictable...

    • @dada-sh4fs
      @dada-sh4fs 7 ปีที่แล้ว +38

      @@luciusdomitius9377 Why?
      Styles make fights. You're trying to apply if A beats B, Then A must also beat C, except that logic doesn't work with different styles, abilities, and interactions between styles.
      Windu was freakishly strong and use Vappad. That style perfectly channels the aggression of Windu and Palpatine into Windu's lightsaber ability.
      It was too much for Palpatine. He got his ass handed to him and got very lucky that Anakin showed up. He's not as all-seeing as some people think. He didn't see Vader's intentions when he was RIGHT NEXT TO HIM and gave him a free ride down a shaft
      Yoda's style wasn't Vapad. Also, Yoda WOULD have mopped the floor with Palpatine in a straight up lightsaber fight. Why do you think Palpatine wanted no part of him. He tried to run away from him. And when they did fight, he jumped away and tried to use force lightning instead of lightsaber because he knew he had no chance in a duel with Yoda.
      And even then he got overpowered. Look at the fight and Palpatines eyes. He get scared and starts screaming in pain as Yoda overpowers him. He only survived because the energy power threw them apart and Yoda needed to flee because of the plot.
      So yea, Windu did most definitely wreck Palpatine.

      The book details it a bit better. Palp used a screening technique in the book, to allow his advances to go unnoticed. Kit was poked with a light saver right through the head & was quoted that you feel no pain in the brain. Mace was only able to survive the onslaught due to the fact that he uses the Dark Side at times, but won’t allow it to consume him, he saw the shroud his other fellow Jedi couldn’t.

      We can cite the books and comics to explain away questionable scenes like this, but the movies should have been able to stand on their own. Fans and experts should not have to dig deep just to answer why the screenwriting seems so dumb.
      Think about watching this scene when ROTS first was released. Very disappointing to see 3 Jedi MASTERS get butchered almost immediately. Saying that Sidious was way better is not a good justification for them dying like total punks. Isn't it silly that explanations and analyses have to be made afterwards just to make their deaths seem less stupid?

    In the book Palpatine asked Saesee Tiin to read his mind. While doing so master Tiin lowered his guard so Palpatine could struck him down. Deception was one of Palpatine's greatest powers. By this surprise Agen Kolar was killed before he could finish his sentence that telepathy doesn't hurt. Kit Fisto lasted a little longer in the book. Even when Anakin raced to the Chancellor's office he saw in the distance green, purple and red flashes. The green flashes faded away during the fight. In the Chancellor's office Anakin saw only a blur and light flashes of the lightsabers. This only shows how fast Mace and Palpatine were fighting. In the last moments of the fight, at the balcony, Mace felt through the Force that the shadow (Palpatine) was in fear when Anakin arrived and in that moment there was a drop in Palpatine's speed. This was the Shatterpoint and Mace cut the lightsaber of Palpatine. To this point I believe that Mace defeated Palpatine fair and square. During the fight Vaapad could stand its own against the power of the Sith Lord. In the moment Palpatine fired his Force Lightning and Anakin came closer, Mace felt no more fear in Palpatine. Both Mace and Palpatine 'begged' Anakin to stop this fight. In this moment Palpatine won, Anakin was so deceived that he had to stop Mace for killing Palpatine. To save Padme. Mace asked Anakin if this execution was any different from the one against Dooku, but Anakin said it was different. Mace was also only focussing on Palpatin, that he didn't look for Anakin's Shatterpoint. This was his defeat. Palpatin trusted Anakin and Anakin wanted to save Palpatine. Anakin cut off Mace's hand and Palpatine struck him down with his lightning. This part of the story was better written then what we saw in the movie. Truly a missed opportunity.

      Hyandur the book I read before the actually movie was shown gave so much more background about the Jedis' thoughts and their behavior,especially Anakin. I also remember that Palpatine was disgusted of Anakin when he pulled the dismembered torso out of the lava and turned him into Vader as a "gotta make the best out of what is left" since a mechanical Vader would have less cells and thus less body to channel the force. Also, he wouldn't be able to use force lightning since he had no organic hands. This also leads to Palpatine wanting Luke as a replacement for Vader later on .

I will say this if you look at the Revenge of the Sith Book Chapter 17 you'll read the discussion between the three Masters. You'll notice that Master Fisto wasn't confident about going against a Sith Lord before leaving on the shuttle he muttered this"I'd still feel better if Yoda were here...,"

    Well, I disagree with that. It WAS horrible screen writing and not supposed to be like that. The novel describes how it was supposed to be before Lucas changed it to make it more family friendly. Nobody doubts that Sidious, Yoda and Windu were more powerful than Kolar, Tiin and Fisto. But it is impossible that the gap between them was so high. It also makes no sense that Fisto was killed so easily when he was so powerful that he wasn't stunned like Tiin and Kolar. And last but not least: the movie gives no clue that Kolar and Tiin were stunned. Yes they stood there like amateurs when they were killed. But when you want to show that they were stunned by the scream, then you have to do it completely different.

      @thefremddingeguy6058 7 ปีที่แล้ว +30

      Well we can assume Earth DOES exist in the Star Wars universe, because of the E.T. species that briefly appears in the Senate room in the Phantom Menace. We can also say that E.T.'s planet is in the Star Wars galaxy because of this. So when Elliot finds E.T., he's seeing an extraterrestrial from the Star Wars galaxy. Also, when E.T. sees a Yoda costume, he shouts 'Home!', which probably means the E.T. species and and Yoda's species are usually with each other.
      We can also assume that from the lines, 'A long time ago, in a galaxy far far away...', the events of the E.T. movie take place long after the events of the latest Star Wars movie, the Force Awakens, so we can assume that both Yoda's species and E.T.'s species survived the Galactic Empire and are continuing their heritage.
      So you can see that Earth exists in the Star Wars universe, and the galaxy from Star Wars also exists in the E.T. universe.
      Or they're the same universe.

    Now what ACTUALY is the reason, not a theory is this:
    Back when the movie was filmed, the three jedi masters that died alongside Windu didn't even have specific names. All the fame and feats and powerlevels grew around them after the movie was released, as a sort of an expansion about the characters from the movie, in form of comics, books, cartoons and etc. That's the only explenation you need, actually. Unnamed jedi die easily throughout the whole series. Remember the jedi who was killed with two blaster shots by Jango Fett? Yeah that was also apparently a jedi master from the council. Who knew right? Well, not Lucas when he was filming. All these jedi's who died easily are just extras while the movies were being shot. So nobody cared if they die easily or not, because we know nothing about them, they could've been just as esaily some nooby padawans. That's the actual truth behind these scenes, not a theory. The scene was supposed to show how much more powerful then anyone else was Sidious and Windu, so their battle would seem more epic. And how do you show this if Sidious doesn't kill some other random jedi first? Yeah, I know it's shallow, but that's all there is to it.

      Honestly, all cinema duels are horrible, especially all of star wars. No duel should last that long and if you don't believe me, watch any weaponry martial arts master duelling. It takes a matter of second before one has taken a major strike.
      The slow swings, unnecessary twirls, and retarded stab is bad choreo... but the amount of time it took for the jedi to die in that fight is honestly believable with both the comics explanation of force scream, surprise, and how palpatine is a master of all light saber forms, changing to whichever form counters his opponent if need be.
      If anything thought, I want to know why palpatine restricted himself to using just lightsaber and not any force powers until he was cornered. Strange because force powers were his forte especially shown in the fight against yoda.

  • @Scoldy_
    @Scoldy_ 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

    I think the fight would have gone better like this:
    Palpatine jumps up and he and Mace strike lightsabers, then rears back and stabs an unready Agen Kolar. Saesee Tinn strikes at Palpatine but he blocks it then slashes Tiin. He turns back to Mace and Kit Fisto and the two put their lightsabers up to fight Palpatine. Palpatine strikes at Kit Fisto but he blocks it then at Mace. Mace blocks this as well. Palpatine repeatedly strikes at Mace then turns to Kit Fisto who is behind him. He strikes his lightsaber twice then turns back to Mace. Mace strikes Palpatine's lightsaber and Palpatine steps backward. Kit Fitso then strikes at Palpatine along with Mace, but Palpatine block both of them. Suddenly he pushed Mace back when he strikes his lightsbaer and then, using the force, pushes Kit Fisto backwards as his lightsaber flies out of his hand. He hits Palpatine's desk and is knocked unconscious. Mace Strikes at Palpatine and the two turn down the hallway.
    *Continues on as it does in the movie*
    That way it shows the other two clearly were shocked and unready for his powerful fighting but Kit Fisto Survives due to his quick wit and the fact the Palpatine focuses on Mace. It seems a bit more balanced and shows Palpatine isn't completely unbeatable.

      They did train with lightsabers, but I recall there being something about disagreements about which skill sets were okay to use. I forget which, there was some jedi that used a light version of the sith lightning. He wasn't evil, but he was pretty much discouraged about using it. Palpatine, evil as his intents were, wasn't hampered by an order telling him what to learn and what not to lean.
      I heard a lot of the stories from the comics and the now legends books, there were some jedi that used skills people like Yoda would never approve of. It's one thing to continue using it and not getting caught, but you'd think someone would catch on if you stuck it in the youngling's curriculum.
      It's kinda strange. The dark side cripples itself by going too far sometimes, the light side does the same by limiting how far.

    One problem also is that having four jedi masters fighting together isnt always useful. Its like having four alpha dogs, these jedi masters (to my knowledge) have barely fought together. So fighting in a cramped space as the office would be just as likely to harm each other as the councilor. That is represented by the Jedi's hesitation to make the first move, they arnt used to each others fighting style. Watch Obi-wan and Anakin, Qui-gon and Obi-wan, Ahsoka and Anakin and you can instantly see the chemistry. Palps made the jedi pay for their hesitation and lack of team work by aggressively attacking.

You also have to keep in mind, while you say the Jedi were usually only gaining training for blaster deflection, because the sith were thought to be extinct. Palpatine had been training in lightsaber combat at a very young age. Solely to dispatch Jedi/saber wielders. In conclusion he was very much ready for that moment against his long standing rivals (jedi)

    It's called horrible writing and direction by George Lucas. The two devil looking Jedi, with the first one killed had his back turned to the incoming Palpatine and the second one is just standing there looking stupid. The other dude with the dreads had huge fingers and couldn't possibly hold his light saber with any dexterity and maneuver it competently against the lighting-fast Palpatine.

      I have to agree with you. It was so annoying when they died because there was no reason for it. At least let them fight and have a cool death like Mace Windu. Also, I have a theory. Kit Fisto’s body isnt there at the end. Maybe he escaped. Plus, Tiin and Kit Fistos slashes were weak. Maybe both went off and survived after the battle!

    • @Big_Bulli
      @Big_Bulli 7 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      Eetu Palo The movies aren't the main canon to star wars, the comics are. The limitations to what could be shown in the movies is based on the real actors used. In star wars, people could run in a blur, the force lighting used by weaker sith than sidius could turn people to ash, and some could even steal other people's life force. You can't take the movies for what they show.

    • @shooterrick1
      @shooterrick1 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bryian Hampton Yes, but that doesn't justify giving these abilities idiotic sounding names like "Force scream".

    • @hybridous
      @hybridous 7 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Why must everything be over complicated with all these 'force abilities'?
      How about, simply, that the Jedi had not encountered Sith for centuries, and therefore had fallen into a state where they are imagining themselves more strong and capable than they really are.
      They have not been really battle tested against a Sith Master until now, and are simply not up to the task...
