Thanks for your work Jake _ great summation of our current position ..... roll on next season, let's do this. I remember 1966 and the horror images of Baldock accepting the premiership cup in the Collingwood strip !!!!!!!
Silvagni and Lyon are morons who should NEVER be given a chance to put a winning list together. Silvagni did WHAT at GWS??? Silvagni did WHAT at Carlton. Lyon did WHAT at St Kilda when he was last here??? Lyon did WHAT at Fremantle when he was there??? success does NOT follow when Lyon or Silvagni are in charge
I think there were quite a few times when, sadly, Membrey looked cooked last year. It is an extremely tough decision to have to take but the right one I believe. Such is footy in 2024.
I think we know what sort of player Membey is and while it's sad to see him go he's not going to become a better footballer in the future. We're yet to see the best of Hayes because of injury and he fills a need. He's a forward who can rest Marshall in the ruck. If he gets a run without injury he could end up being more than useful. It's worth giving him one more year especially if we don't get another ruckman.
That's what the big what if is though, Hayes' body hasn't held up so far and by all signs we've seen from the past there's a fair chance he could have another severe iniury in the near future. I assume we let Membrey go as we would have only used him for one more year, but surely could've kept him around on a 2 year and trade for like pick 50 onwards next year. There's worry that our forward line now rests on King's shoulders which all it could take is one injury similar to Hayes. We're really riding everything on his body holding up as Sharman and Caminiti only kicked 3x goals more than Membrey between the two of them this year. It just doesn't seem too beneficial to be fielding a team that will be expecting to finish anywhere from 12-16 and a lot of teams have filled more spots than we have so we could start falling down the pecking order. Hope to god I am wrong, but I just have this bad feeling about next year.
I agree I just can't help but feel that if he goes to another team he'll suddenly live up to his full potential 😅. I wouldn't give him more than one year to make good and only if we don't get another ruckman.
Offloading Membrey was a reasonable call given his form the last couple of seasons. The lack of replacement for Battle (unless Caminiti fills his shoes in the back 50) has me worried. Would like to see a lot from Macrae given how thin our midfield is. Also pretty geared up for the draft in a few weeks given our current hand.
Sad to see Tim Membrey go. He gave his very best in more games to the Saints than bad ones. I can only wish him the very best, I think he will suit the Pies and should have at least 1 good season next year. I do trust the Saints on the managing of the list though. They would know a lot more than many of us fans.
Pleeeeease let us keep Hayes and hope he stays fit. With only Heath and maybe Keeler as rucks we certainly would use him. Even in his one game he played swapping with Ro, it worked great.
In terms of playing the cards we are dealt, I don't think we could expect much more. Of couse, disappointed to lose Skunk and Battle, as have a lot of positive Saint memories and affection for both. But these are sad realities of the modern game, players changing clubs. Not sure we could have conjured up much more without erring into high risk territory and keen to see our new crop and a few more contract extensions.
Word is they're going to trade 6 & 11 for pick 2...& trade one 1 of later picks into the future 1st round - most likely with Essendon...I just saw some highlights of all those kids, they look alright...Go Saints 😇🔴⚪⚫
Skunk leaving a Ross Lyon coached Saints team for Collingwood has the same eerie feeling that Luke Ball’s departure had. That worked out well for Luke Ball. He won a premiership with Collingwood. A good omen for the pies?
Haha they aren’t even remotely similar. Ball left at 24/25 at the peak of his playing days. Skunk is 30 and it’s as consistent with de-listing a 2x B&F winner (Seb).
Collingwood had an average list age of about 24 at the time. Their current list has a ton of players north of 30. Probably won't make the 8 in 2025 with or without Skunk.
@@SaintsTVPodit’s indisputable that Luke Ball was better as a player at St Kilda, however, when he played for Collingwood, he made the players around him better, the Collingwood midfielders had a huge load taken off their shoulders, Dale Thomas was able to use his pace on the outside, Pendlebury was able to flaunt his class in the centre and Dane Swan not having to go in and under allowed him to use his explosiveness, scoreboard impact and brute strength that made him untaggable, people still say Dane Swan drove the 2010 Premiership and Luke Ball is given a lot of the credit
Pretty sensible and accurate analysis for mine, this is the draft to invest in heavily, especially for midfielders. Just gotta get the picks right and hit free agency next year
I'm optimistic. We've got some talent that surely can have a better year in 2025. Looking forward to Henry, Wilson, Sharman and what they can do. McCrae is a pretty smart player from what I remember so that will be good. Max will be so important though, gotta be a 50+ year at least. Battle is a loss but Ross teams know how to defend.
Membrey won’t win us a premiership, He cost us final 2 years ago and only started playing well the second half of the year because he was playing for his future. Was the correct thing to do.
so playing a Temu version (Sharman) is the right thing to do??? This is the reason why we continually go year upon year of NOT winning a premiership and being ridiculed
Our front 50 could definitely use some experience. Owens and Sharman are still very young, King is a liability, Butler and Higgins don't play as target forwards, and Hayes spends most of every season in the medical room. All this said, Membrey has been in sharp decline the last 2 or 3 seasons. He'd likely go missing for a good chunk of games in 2025 if we kept him.
@@thestigforutemu version? Come on. Membrey was good but hasn't been the past 2-3 years, Sharman has barely been given a run but when played forward he looks like a legitimate 2nd-3rd option and he's only 24. Time to move on and get a new forward line working.
I am sorry to see Skunk go but St. Kilda for the first time in their history is looking well ahead and building a team of youth. Tim has been a workhorse for us and he is a well respected and loved player. We seriously need another Ruckman. Saints have given away ruck after ruck after ruck and put all their eggs in one basket. Why the hell they didn't get rid of Zac Jones I don't know as he is a lazy player and only played well in 2024 because he was out of contract.
