Great first-ride review. So, it's a Zongshen RX401 Cyclone with some Mutt styling/badges and improved cycle parts. You do say this in the video description but most people probably won't read it ;-)
So it's basically the same base as the Sinnis terrain 380 according to MCN, gains 21cc but produces the same bhp. Apparently it's no longer a current Sinnis model but it's still on their website at £4495 or £4795 with luggage. + otr. Not a great seller though was it.
I also noticed it was a Zongshen Cyclone RX401! Thanks to the close up on the keys! Had to check their website to confirm the model! I see the TFT is an option for the Cyclone model, I guess Mutt will be bringing that one in as standard! Zongshen/Cyclone have some top bikes that deserve to be brought to the UK!
Very nice indeed! There is NOTHING wrong with a motorbike that is well built, has a warranty and is very affordable. The instrumentation is somewhat reminiscent of the current KLR650's. It will at the least allow more people to own a motorbike and use it as they need/want/see fit. Good for Mutt! And good for riders! Thank you for a good look at another motorbike we do not get in Amurica! SS in commiefornia, USA.
What a super little ADV bike, has everything you’d need and more. Really think this new generation of small/mid ADV machines are going to be best sellers globally. Lots of fun in a compact relatively lightweight chassis and package for real world everyday riding.
Reminds me very much of the Sinnis T380 terrain. That’s not a criticism, just an observation. I like the stylishness of the Mutt brand and seriously considered buying one but wanted an ADV. It will be interesting to see to see what the final market product looks like.
Great review. Mark next to the Benelli trk 502 how does it stand, and what did you prefer? I have a honda Transalp 650 and looking to replace it but find it hard as I love it, even though its top heavy.
Hmmm, that's a tricky one. The Benelli is very well built albeit a little heavy. The Mutt is great value with those boxes, although at the moment Benelli are doing a deal with the boxes. I think the Mutt has better wheels, manoeuvrability, but the Benelli has a better top end...but it is 100cc more.
You did well to focus on the bike reviews and news coverage. Another great review. I like that you take a while to cover the basic specs (with Chinese bikes would be good to know the origins of the engines). I like how you are sometimes hacked off at driving transgressions yet continue seamlessly with your riding opinion. Keep up the good work.
Hats off to Mutt. I walked past one the other day in a Royal Enfield showroom but it was sort of hidden so I did not get a good look at it. Hope it sells well. Did Mutt mention warranty and service intervals?
One thing these cheaper bikes do better than Honda , is providing sump protectors as standard . My Honda Transalp , came without even a plastic one , no hand guards , ect ect ect.
Looks a nice bike. I note the comments about trade in values, but some people do keep bikes forever trade in becomes irrelevant.... lots of choice in smaller capacity now... and its actually quite cool too
@@garys7828 I agree Gary. But the fact is I change my bikes more often than I do my underwear. Even with a very popular brand you're bound to loose money. But at least they do want it unlike the Chinese built brand I had. But hopefully now the bikes I've got I will keep. The oldest one is 2019 Kawasaki. It's not going anywhere. Love it. And now I'm retired can't actually afford to keep swapping them in. 🤦♂️😂😂😂.
No, it isn't. Look at them side by side, very different. Terrain was 380cc, this is 400.7cc If you look at them side by side, they are quite different.
Great review of a pre-production bike Mark. Will this model be sold in the UK as a MY24 or MY25? When does the next year model designation start in the UK? Is it by build date or plate registration?
For me personally, that's not their market. I know it's cheaper than the new himmy but that's the one I'd go for. Tried and tested and lovely to ride. Good review though 😊
Interesting.. I know it's a pre production bike, and camara angle could be at fault? But the centre stand looks really low.. So much so it looks like it could ground easily..
Interesting, it didn't seem that low. The sump guard is pretty much the same level, perhaps the centre stand was a few mm lower at the bracket end. I doubt the back end of the centre stand would catch anything. If you were that close, you would probably hit a brake disc too.
The only trouble I have with these type of brands are they are Chinese built, Doesn't matter were they are designed or who they are made for. I Bought one won't say what brand but let's say everyone has heard of them, and they have been in business for years. But I personally thought it was a really good bike well built and put together , until I came to trade it in for something else. Dealers in my area didn't want to know. All they kept saying is sorry mate not interested been bit to many times dealing in this Chinese rubbish. 😢. Even me saying loads of premium bands have Chinese components in them. They said its getting the spare parts to fix them when they go wrong is the problem so sorry mate. Literally had to give it away. Sold it to we buy any bike. So me personally doesn't matter how good the reviews are and bikes. I won't ever buy another one. Shame. I know there will be people out there that swear by them. But this comment is my personal opinion sorry.
It's like with Japanese bikes years ago; stigma is easy to get, very hard to get rid of. It's a shame, with the right quality control, any bike can be good because the manufacturer will just send it back to the factory to be improved up to the standard they are happy with.
@@motorsforthemasses Absolutely. They just need to get the Customer service and backup in place before they launch it. Then probably dealerships wouldn't give these chinese brands a bad name. If its a Dam good reliable bike does it really matter who actually makes it.
@@Paul-pb3vq Mutt do seem to be quite strict on their QC. They are always striving for improvement it seems so from what I have seen in their showroom, they are pretty on the ball.
It claims a top speed of 60 to 65 which is pointless for an adventure bike. It looks great but fully loaded what will it actually do. I'm sure a tuned 401 could have been of more use on the road. Why make a detuned 401 with a higher ta bracket. 399cc would have made more sense with this power.
yes strange its not below 400cc. Looks cb500x ish. My only concern is the usual parts and servicing if your not in the Birmingham area. ONe thing for sure chinese bikes have come on leaps and bounds.
The DVLA need to investigate the RFL... example, Versys 650 this the same as Versys 1000... ...yet this manufacturer... 401cc... ridiculous. ...and I want my money back from my 599cc ZX6R since 2009... V5C states 600cc... crafty!
When i see it on release, i hated the bike. Nothing like the rest of the mutt range. This review has made me at least consider it as a bike, since it does seem like a cool bike, but just not with mutts styling.

the zhongshen 401 lump is supposed to make 45hp from what i can see. wonder why this one has been detuned by almost 20%?
