Don't be ridiculous. The star of Bethlehem wasn't a star as we know stars at all. It moved and then became geostationary above Bethlehem. It was at such a low altitude that ancient people could tell it was over Bethlehem and not some other town. If the ancients could measure say 5 deg and a nearby settlement was 10 km away, the star had to be less than 110 km altitude. If it stood over and thereby identified the actual stable where Jesus was born as Matthew suggests. It must have been very low indeed, perhaps 100m or so. Obviously, whatever it was looked like a star but that isn't a star or a planet or an asteroid, it's a mystery.

The Christmas Star was probably comet 22P Kopff. It appeared in the sky east of Jerusalem in April of the year 4 BC. Some think that Jesus was born then. Nobody seems to know for sure as there are differing opinions each similarly plausible.

Don't be ridiculous. The star of Bethlehem wasn't a star as we know stars at all. It moved and then became geostationary above Bethlehem. It was at such a low altitude that ancient people could tell it was over Bethlehem and not some other town. If the ancients could measure say 5 deg and a nearby settlement was 10 km away, the star had to be less than 110 km altitude. If it stood over and thereby identified the actual stable where Jesus was born as Matthew suggests. It must have been very low indeed, perhaps 100m or so. Obviously, whatever it was looked like a star but that isn't a star or a planet or an asteroid, it's a mystery.
